Originally, the Black Citadel was Magtheridon's base of operations in Outland. It was located in the Hellfire Peninsula.
The cursed WoW, however, replaced the Black Citadel with the Hellfire Citadel. Magtheridon's (former) base was changed to the Black Temple, which is in the Shadowmoon Valley.
The Black Temple itself is yet another retcon: in WarCraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal it was known as Fortress Shadowmoon, and it was Ner'Zhul's home.

man the part i hate the most is it is so difficult to play WoW as a storyline because they change it so quickly. I stopped playing WoW for a good year and a half, and now its like Arthas is dead and Deathwing is now "new" bad guy. like i wish theyd set it up as a campaign more rather than pointless and very meaningless raids and dungeons for those mmo-addicts. miss story lore of wc3 very much :/

Indeed. But since Sargeras's disappearance, Kil'Jaeden has been thinking about taking permanent leadership of the Burning Legion. I do believe he said so in the encounter of the Sunwell raid. It remains uncertain however.

In the process entering Icecrown Citadel you slaghter all of his lieutenants and all of his most powerful forces, Frost Worms etc. The sourge that are left are really weak anyway, so it is just a matter of slaughtering the leftovers with Tirion and other paladins. 95% of the Scourge would be in Northrend so you could block any means of escape they have, leave a few paladins in Kalimdor/Eastern Kingdoms to clear up any scourge not in Northrend. And you're sorted...
There's one thing I don't get. Kil'Jaeden created the Lich King, so then why does he want him destroyed by Illidan? Can someone clear this up for me please?

His power wasn't fully summoned on azeroth yet. And its a game mechanism , the new bosses are stronger than the old bosses.
And you have to know , Kil'jaeden has never been on Azeroth and he caused already a lot of trouble on Azeroth for example: corrupted Illidan and Kael'thas , enslaved orcs my barely using power, created the scourge and the Lich King , enslaved a lot of dreadlords (which is lore-wisely really hard). this all by just deceiving/threaten them.

Problem was that the Lich King (Ner'zul's soul, not Arthas) was aware that he was being used and began plotting a way to free himself from his icy throne. The first step was to find a gullible and easily corrupted physical body - hence Arthas - and so the story of WCIII begins.

I have played WC3 and WOW, Azeroth (south) + Loderan (North) = Eastern kingdom. Kalimdor and Northrend are the other 2 continents So total of 3 continents on world of Azeroth. Everyone knows Azeroth as a world and not as southern Eastern kingdom.

Something I hadn't noticed before: Kil'jaeden has the same swirly storm thing going on in Sunwell Plateau in WoW, when he falls back through the portal. Nice bit of continuity for a change from Blizz. If only the characterization for Kael and Illidan was the same way. :\

Illidan, like the other Highbourne, were addicted to the Well's magic, and Queen Azshara *Night elf at the time* tried to summon Sargeas, but Malfurion and Tyrande Whisperwind *along with somebody else, I can't remember* stopped it, and the Well imploded causing the Maelstrom, and some of the Highbourne to become Naga, while others were exiled

@Anidem9 Kil'Jaeden created the lich king as a tool to "scout" and start wiping life from Azeroth (world, not continent) before the actual burning legion came in and finish the job. Problem was that the Lich King (Ner'zul's soul, not Arthas) was aware that he was being used and began plotting a way to free himself from his icy throne. The first step was to find a gullible and easily corrupted physical body - hence Arthas - and so the story of WCIII begins.

I have played WC3 and WOW, Azeroth (south) + Loderan (North) = Eastern kingdom. Kalimdor and Northrend are the other 2 continents So total of 3 continents on world of Azeroth. Everyone knows Azeroth as a world and not as southern Eastern kingdom.

Something I hadn't noticed before: Kil'jaeden has the same swirly storm thing going on in Sunwell Plateau in WoW, when he falls back through the portal. Nice bit of continuity for a change from Blizz. If only the characterization for Kael and Illidan was the same way. :\

@Unholynite Sargeras was pleased with this plan, and gave Illidan a "gift" in return for his allegiance. Illidan's eyes were burned out by Sargeras himself, despite still being beyond the portal, and orbs of mystic fire set in their place that allowed Illidan to see all forms of magic, and arcane tattoos covered his body. Not has he been slayen by wowplayers but by the thousands of souls released from frostmourne after it got shattered.

i'm not sure if Kael even WENT to Northrend, Illidan did, but if Kael did then yeah he survived, no main characters actually died there, just a bunch of blood elves, a few became San'layn for The Lich King, one became Blood Queen Lanathel, and everybody else ran away to Outland with Illidan cause Arthas beat his demonic ass

@yugipoo You're right about Illidan, but Vashj isn't Queen Azshara. And Kael wasn't even alive at the time of The Sundering. Illidan, like the other Highbourne, were addicted to the Well's magic, and Queen Azshara *Night elf at the time* tried to summon Sargeas, but Malfurion and Tyrande Whisperwind *along with somebody else, I can't remember* stopped it, and the Well imploded causing the Maelstrom, and some of the Highbourne to become Naga, while others were exiled
