Most people who play do so with small clubs in little leagues purely for enjoyment and certainly not as their day job. I have a number of friends who play futsal for fun in a small league, all of whom attend university. Likewise, I know people who play smash purely for fun at small tourneys. Even Ken, the former champion playing in this match who made tens of thousands playing, was a student too.
it is not wrong or bad if you use the highest tier character in each game but i find it sad. I think M2k just pick high tiers characters but don't get to experience other characters. If he is having fun, that is GREAT. But if he is not, then it is sad.

m2k doesn't have the tech skill to do much against Ken's marth. And he because more and more aggressive near the end which was so easy for Ken to take advantage of. Good match
@BrownCommander m2k had more tech skills at that time than anyone else. the only thing he couldnt at that time and up to 2010 was wall tech (watch a mango v m2k match). Ken was king of smash at that time because of his mind games. Ken had one of the best DIs and mind game skills of the game.

I dont like playing melee. I still like smb64 more. i would play it but i hate all the high tier characters (i like fox but hes not my style but i hate falco so much hes annoying) in melee and nobody i near me i know plays it. I'm not saying Melee is a terrible game, it was my 2nd favourite GameCube game, after Super Mario Sunshine. I've played it with my friends for years and I liked it.

Implying you can't have fun playing melee. I guess you can't have fun playing street fighter or tekken either? The fact is, brawl was dumbed down for those who can't play melee efficiently. @OrkTv er... melee may have more "glitches" (I would say things like wave dashing and L-cancelling help increase strategic options) but brawl is not nearly as competitive or tournament playable as melee. And yes, melee is damn fun. Brawl is as well, but if you want a more pure skill based game you probably want to go with melee, which simply put takes significantly more skill to play effectively, due to the fast pace and special techniques that are basically required learning to perform highly.
Even when just dicking around this mechanic is completely aggravating and adds little to no hilarity to any situation. The fact that this feature can not be turned off is enough for me to not want to play even casually, let alone under the influence of competition.
I care a fuck ton about fun, all you care about is sales and graphics. Brawl can be fun, I just prefer Melee.

Graphics aren't that important, but they are just a good example of one of the things that Brawl is better than Melee, even you can't see that. Sales and ratings a good examples of a game's qualities.
Melee was the best selling game on the GC with 7~million. Brawl is the 8th best selling Wii title with 9.48~million, Mario Kart Wii is in 4th with 27~million. So, I think it would be fair to say that Brawl beats Melee in raw sales, but that might be due in part more by the Wii being more prevalent than the GC was at the time: I don't find the sales argument convincing. Also, they both are highly rated

At least they are going to do the balancing stuff not only by Sakurai, but by the whole company in the next game.

But Pound 3 wasn't as much a revival of Melee as the tournament "Revival of Melee", because at the time of Pound 3 people were still playing Melee and everyone thought that it would be the last SSBM tournament since Brawl had just come out that year. But RoM was hosted about a year later, and the Melee greats met once again in a national tournament since the advent of Brawl.

SMG is not bigger than Brawl and you can't compare it that easy.
By the way, I have NSMBW, I've played it for 2 weeks and I finished it.
Due to all the extra options in Brawl, you can have way longer fun.
Not that NSMBW is a stupid game. It's awesome. But Brawl is in my opinion better.

Melee is full of glitches and you guys are crying because Sakurai is awesome and doesn't like tourneyfags. The game has awesome graphics, and, you have to admit: 9.48 million sales, isn't that a little bit very much? The only reason why you tourneyfags (that's what you are) like Melee is because you can abuse glitches. You don't care a f*ck about fun.
Brawl is a game which you can have fun with, so what's the big deal?

Implying you can't have fun playing melee. I guess you can't have fun playing street fighter or tekken either? The fact is, brawl was dumbed down for those who can't play melee efficiently. Even the producers said that it was toned down to become something more "fun". If you don't want to play in tourneys, don't. Same way I won't play a game where tripping for literally no reason can cost me the game.

@OrkTv er... melee may have more "glitches" (I would say things like wave dashing and L-cancelling help increase strategic options) but brawl is not nearly as competitive or tournament playable as melee. And yes, melee is damn fun. Brawl is as well, but if you want a more pure skill based game you probably want to go with melee, which simply put takes significantly more skill to play effectively, due to the fast pace and special techniques that are basically required learning to perform highly.

Even when just dicking around this mechanic is completely aggravating and adds little to no hilarity to any situation. The fact that this feature can not be turned off is enough for me to not want to play even casually, let alone under the influence of competition.
I care a fuck ton about fun, all you care about is sales and graphics. Brawl can be fun, I just prefer Melee.

@coreygames You are thinking that I play Brawl because of the tripping mechanics? I don't like tripping either. BRAWL IS NOT A PERFECT GAME, and Melee neither. Brawl introduced a lot of fun things, though tripping is indeed annoying. But I almost never see anybody tripping in competitive gameplay.
Graphics aren't that important, but they are just a good example of one of the things that Brawl is better than Melee, even you can't see that. Sales and ratings a good examples of a game's qualities.

Melee was the best selling game on the GC with 7~million. Brawl is the 8th best selling Wii title with 9.48~million, Mario Kart Wii is in 4th with 27~million. So, I think it would be fair to say that Brawl beats Melee in raw sales, but that might be due in part more by the Wii being more prevalent than the GC was at the time: I don't find the sales argument convincing. Also, they both are highly rated
The only reason to play Brawl over Melee is if you like that kind of gameplay. We don't

They are both by Nintendo created games, you can play with most of the main Nintendo characters and they share Super Smash Bros. in their names.
The only real difference is wavedashing. And Subspace mode. And you guys are not playing Melee because of the lack of Subspace.

@OrkTv Sakurai tries to make each Smash bros different from each other or were you not there when he said all this. Guess not. What each smash bros has in common is some of same characters, game modes and Rewards. Smash 64: Gameplay different, Combo's Different, Gravity, hitstun, moves, mechanics, etc DIFFERENT. Each element changes with each game. People like Brawl and they aren't wrong for their choice. For a competitive edge I prefer Melee. Am I wrong? NO! SSB4 will either be good or bad.

@ChaosmanEXE1 I think each Smash game is different because they needt to keep things fresh. That's what Sakurai said in an interview about SSB4: Only new characters is not a good reason for a new game.
And the mechanics changes like gravity and hitstun are different because they are trying to improve it. Not because: ''Hey let's Bowser make fall very fast at this game.''
At least they are going to do the balancing stuff not only by Sakurai, but by the whole company in the next game.

@OrkTv I'm hoping that SSB4 leans a little more to the competitiveness of the game than brawl did with some new elements and Mechanics. That will make me happy. Just cause I prefer certain elements in my game doesn't make me wrong in what game I choose or how I choose to play it, but I'm not so blind as to say that these games are the same and are just like their Predecessor. That's like calling Smash "COD". Yoy honestly need to get ur head out of ur ass and get over urself.

@PaJamaican It's actually Pound 3 where Mango first beat M2K with Jiggs. But Pound 3 wasn't as much a revival of Melee as the tournament "Revival of Melee", because at the time of Pound 3 people were still playing Melee and everyone thought that it would be the last SSBM tournament since Brawl had just come out that year. But RoM was hosted about a year later, and the Melee greats met once again in a national tournament since the advent of Brawl.

No it was for a VERY short amount of time. He was just testing like in brawl when he used Dedede in two brawl tourneys until he decided to stay with Meta knight.
He does that but eventually chooses the best of the tier list and then dominates :).
