where is AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter gunship? it's the 1st attack helicopter in the world. & all this video shows is the flying tank & apache? apache never fought the hind.
@auro1986 Yes, you are correct! I overlooked that. Actually I should not have mentioned the Ka-50 either. The comparison between the Apache and the Hind was the regarding the different approaches adopted: sleek, silent heli with low cross section vs titanium cockpit-armoured attack cum infantry transport, even if loud and easily visible. The Ka-50 was shown to demonstrate how Russia has adopted the Western approach, at least for the export market if not for any pressing self-defence needs. :)
@penguinskywalker the AH-1 Cobra & the hind first met each other on the west german & east german border. the hind chased the Cobra but due 2 some technical problem the hind crashed. it wasn't until the iran-iraq war in the 80's. it was the 1st air-2-air helicopter battle in history. the iranian SeaCobra versions shot down iraqi hinds.
but the flying tank killed some snakes too.
only the Cobra can make a pilot feel the experience of war.
@22slither Well, the NATO reporting name for the MiG-19 is 'Farmer'. 'Fresco' is the MiG-17. However, you are very right, that is the Su-7. I made a mistake there - hopefully my only one in this video.
The SR-71 will always be king, the F-15 has a perferct combat record, and the F-14 was an absolute killer, but... the F-86 Sabre will always be my favorite.
Hi, thanks for the comment. Astute observation! 6:57 shows a view from the MiG-29UB. This instrument was invented by Soviet designers to encourage aggressive flying. It lets the person on the rear seat to see the runway just as well as the pilot, thereby transforming him/her into a nagging 'back-seat driver' instead of a nerdy RIO / ignorant tourist or whatever the hell he/she is supposed to be. It pisses off the pilot like nothing else and motivates him to redefine 'aggressive maneuvering'.
Thanks for the comment. I wanted to use German aircraft at the very beginning (to show how the first US/Soviet designs were inspired by German advances) but the video would have gotten too long and not fit with the music, so I reluctantly had to drop a good many other aircraft and events I wanted to show. :( But thanks for the feedback.
Pity, you missed out on the some of the best combat jet designs, The Hawker Hunter, BAC Lightning, the Bucceneer, Victor , Vulcan, the unique Harrier, the Canberra, the Mirage, Tornado.
Ya, thanks for the comment. The intention of this video was to compare Cold War era US and Soviet aircraft - their evolution, similarities and contrasts.
what you on about mate..were talking about superpower here, not european suck jets, yeah i said, most european jets after ww2 arent that good, including tornado, dont you know tornado is the only coalition jet that lost alot o jets in the 1st gulf war, also the vulcan aint that impressive when compare to yanks n soviet bombers,so get your brits n eu jets outa here mate, this is for the big boys..
The ideas behind aircraft design in USA and Russia differ sometimes (by and large, technology for USA, ruggedness and numbers for Russia) but aircraft of both countries are so effective in their roles. A jointly created aircraft would be formidable, but the very rivalry that won't allow this, ever(?), is what spurred aviation innovations in the first place, and thus, such legendary capabilities in their airplanes. Without this enmity, there would be no MiG-25, B-2, F-117, Su-37, etc, eh? :)
A great video! I wonder if ever Russia and USA combine their resources to create an aircraft. Taking all of the advantages of both sides and non of the disadvantages. I think it will be the best aircraft ever made in the history of mankind.
im sorry did some one say mig 15 fagot
