  • How do you program this radio?

  • Thanks for the review. Do you know how and if it would be possible to use the Wouxun KG-UV3D as a CB radio too? Thanks!

  • I am getting a uvd1p is that able to do channel names?

  • @BradleyFFGray

You know, I am not 100% sure, but I don't think so.

  • @chipperi

Yes, all models support channel names.

  • @BradleyFFGray Yes you can but if you have not payed for it yet I would suggest you buy a KG-UV2D from WOUXUN.US

  • With all the windbags on youtube, I just wanted to say to you that I like your review.

You do not have a minute-long intro...or a ton of unrelated info.

I would call your vid the perfect mix of info and real world opinion.

    VERY GOOD MAN!!

  • Hi: As a newbie, there are 3 models available: KG-UV3D-2/350-470; KG-UV3D-2/420-520; and KG-UV3D-2/216-280. Help! Thanks!!!

  • @arnieb12 Your choice depends on your countries band plan. In the US 2meter is 144-148 mhz, 1.25 band is 222-225 mhz, and 70cm band is 420-450mhz, Just get the one that covers the bands you need.

  • @chipperi Thanks very much for the info...I appreciate it!

  • @chipperi sorry to kinda repeat the question but im in the US and im just wondering which to get? Which did you get?

  • UV6D is coming soon. Price is 150-200 dollars.

  • $150? I got mine for 120 delivered with ALL the accessories, and an extra battery

  • do you need a licence to buy one? What is the range on a radio like that, i seriously want to have alternate communication.. good video thnx

  • @snowbal1776 Yes the freqs this is designed for you need an amateur radio license (Ham Radio) It can operate on the FRS bands but you can get a FRS radio much cheaper than this.

  • @snowbal1776 to buy...no, to use...yes

  • Have had a bunch of people ask about unlocking to 220...I wouldn't try it. The antenna is not tuned for it, and the recieve circuitry it not tuned for it....I could see damage happening. Just buy the 2m 220 version.

  • Ordered this radio (my first since getting licensed- General). Also downloaded the manual to study while I wait for delivery.

I wondering about the transmit and receive split. Can you use it to work the satellites on 2m uplink and 70cm downlink?

  • @timeanagain Sure can I do it with mine You can listen to bout the a/b freq at the same time. So you hear it on 440 then talk on 2m.

  • thanks for the review, i was really not looking forward to spending 500+ on...this is the ticket that will get me into Hams :) thanks again!

  • Just got my uv3d last night! Ordered from hro for a buck twenty with free shipping and it was at my door the next day! Programin does suck! I should have got the cable too! Kg4kfj

  • Hi Chip, Great review, I'm thinking about getting one of these rigs because City Of Dothan changed to that APCO 25 advanced digital system to keep the citizens from knowing whats going on around them when the sh^&^t hits the fan.It looks like a rugged and reliable rig.Bye from Fred (KC4RAJ)

  • does this have NFM receive around 70-108 MHz ?

    thx

  • Friends have the 3D I bought 2. It looks like a great radio. But what good is it if you can't program it. I have the USB cable and downloaded all the software. All I get is a FAILED CONNECTION message. How do I solve this problem. Thanks

  • i have bought this radio and im deeply dissapointed by shipping cost with international shipping custom right is hugely hight pse dont buy from powermerx

  • What happy to the radio

  • I am getting the 2M/220 variant, and am wondering if you were able to get your radio to modify into the 220 band at all?

  • @bhmayor You want to unlock it for all of the 220 band?? You need the unlock software

    .

  • @bhmayor You want to unlock it for all of the 220 band?? You need the unlock software.

  • I saw your video on how Powerwerx is screwing you, so I am deciding to get the radio from Ham Radio Outlet (HRO), since they seem to carry the UV3D as well now, and they are a very reputable company. Moreover, just to be sure, I am going to buy it on AMEX, where my warranty is doubled and they protect people from companies that do business in a nasty way.

  • @bhmayor Don't buy it from HRO Powerworx sells is to HRO and if you send it to get fixed they send it to powerworx buy the KG-UV2D.

  • Great little radios! I got the UVD1P. By all means, get the programming cable, plus there is a free software you can download to open up the radio to transmit on any frequency.

  • The KG-UV2D AND KG-UV1P are now the same as the KG-UV3D all but the case are the same and the radio has 128 memory channels and the 1P and the 2D have the welcome screen so powerworx costs more. BTW all this coming from some one who has 5 of them any other questions lol?

  • Hi Chip Great review I have just bought the KG-UVD1P not to sure what the difference is between the 12 and 3 but will be receiving it very soon from China. (Hong Kong) I am as all Hams are in unlocking and messing with this radio. I know you mentioned to google it but any recommendations on where to get the unlocking software with out me down loading something nasty as in a virus ?

    Thanks K5NOV

  • @leeanddebs if you need the unlocking software goto/google mods(dot)dk

  • Hi Chip, Great review. One question they say that when you change channels on the Wouxun 3 that when you change channels it'd a pain in a butt. If you shut it off you have to have to hit a series of keys to get back to the readout. This problem supposedly doesn't occur in the Wouxun 2.

  • @kb2kfv My screen always looks the same even after being powered on and off. I think what they were referring to was you can set the display to show the channel name in text or the actual frequency in numeric. So I can program in my local repeater and name it W4TRC. I can set the display to show W4TRC ch1 or 146.970 ch1. I have mine set to display the text. if I were to switch to show freq instead it is a little difficult to get it back to text.

  • hey man nice review, I have a KG-UVD1P on the way from China, already have a yaesu ft60 but want a nice cheap unit to keep in the car, these radios get such great reviews and they are so cheap its a no brainer! thanks for the review and hoping you get out of the hotel and in to a better job soon!! all the best
