  • Btw I love Garrison's playing.I swear by McLaughlin's live in Paris...I'm familiar also with the mixolydian b9b6 (i've been playing with flamenco and traditional musicians here in greece, where in this content i enjoy this scale better...).Funny thing is that this scale traditional musicians call it here "hijaz" so a common joke among them is: jazz???better hijazz!!!! Hahaha...Anyway...Keep on what you're doing and keep on searchin, you have a bright future!!!Take care!!!

  • I mean that too many young players with great talent are promoted as the next big thing for marketing reasons only..It's difficult to find our own personallity in this capitalistic world that needs "artists" for consume and not personalities. You know,Jaco is hot right now for example, let's create anything that's similar to it...I recently stopped using a ramp, three fingers etc. in a way to find more substance and a personal voice(studying with Anthony Jackson helped a lot also...).

  • Hello Roberto!!Thanks for replying in a gentle way...No intention to insult you!Seeing that we are of the same generation(and same neighboorhood,I'm Greek) makes me think that you are a player that surely has so much to offer in the future,a big promise, with a very good present. My comment was a little "agressive" 'cause i think it's getting a little too much lately with the garrison thing...You know, when an era hasn't it's great men then the system(and the industry)creates them.

  • You are tired of the jaco clones and started listening to the Garrison clones???Sorry for being cynical but isn't this the truth???He's a very good player but no personallity yet...

  • Well, there are things that Matthew Garrison not only did better than others, but has been basically the only one doing so far. Using the Mixolidian b9 b6 scale, for example. This scale is, amongst the Western scales, the one that reflects the "arabic" sound at best, and in my ears it sounds like Matt managed to exploit it so extensively

  • and in such an inspiring way that his playing is basically the one and only reference for me on that count. In my listening experience, the A section of Caravan is THE place where such scale literally calls to be implied, therefore I can't help being heavily influenced by Matt's playing on that spot.

  • amazin drummer also!

  • you are the best italian bass player, you have a lot of fans in italy rob, we are tired of all the jaco's clones!!!
