Whoa neat! I've never seen this! I'm glad they redesigned everything too, but there is some neat stuff in this demo. The hand drawing the baddies is slightly more detailed, and that bit with the critter grabbing the page as he falls to his doom was really cool.
Man, they really put a lot of great work into Comix Zone. It was not only an awesome beat 'em up, but a clever adventure game too. Everything in the game seemed to have a great amount of thought behind it.
Yeah the version we got was much better in every way. After recently picking it up again and playing it on my REAL sega not emu, I must say I think if they released a new one set up for HD with online leaderboards etc and maybe a co-op mode it would sell pretty well.
This is just an tech demo (animation) showing what the people who were going to make Comix Zone thought the game would look like. Luckily, this tech demo was ignored ;]...somewhat...
As girly as THIS main character is, the REST of the graphics surprisingly outdo the released version. I mean, sure, there's no parallax, but the panels look very artistic with its wonky perspectives.
@NukeOTron it all was made with amiga by peter morawiec just to give general idea about the game he wanted to design, you can hardly call that even beta lol
i feel bad for joe pencil he doesnt have anyone to help him sketch had alyssa to help him well she really didnt do anything but joe had an evil guy that was talking to him
This is the test game, the show-off of the briliant feel of the game... so gay that short and the kind of clothing of the guy! so 80`s!!!! Sketch Turner kicks much more ass than this on, a grunge/rock artist... for the nineties it fitted absolutelly perfect..
It came out so much better in the final, though the ideas were there. The comic tearing was the best stuff in the game. Nothing beat kicking people through comic cells.
Maybe because it isn't hard as ALL HELL!!! The final's only three stages, too, so I would gladly pick this over the final release! ...however, it's not a bad game. It was just pretty hard and needlessly short. It still felt good to kick some ass.

Wow. I had no idea Comix Zone HAD a beta. This was probably my 2nd favorite non-sonic game on genesis, rght behind Ristar :)
