Thanks very much for posting this! It's great to hear the riffs, chords and melody that the band later "worked-out" into the finished tracks. THANKS again!!!
I am sorry, but this is not the Simple Minds, but rather someone who is an avid Simple Minds fan playing this music. It sounds good, don't get me wrong. But this is not the original Simple Minds playing, simply listen to the drums, this is not Mel Gaynor, it's a drum machine. The keyboards aren't Mick, it's someone else. The guitar is not Charlie, I tell you the truth. I've been exposed to Simple Minds and their music for over 25 years, and this definitely is not them playing. Good try!
@cadburyenglishman ...I am a fan for 25 years either. You've got it wrong. It is definately the minds. It is very common to use electric drums (even back in the 80's) when you a doing demo's. Listen to the rest of the demo's and you can hear the boys now and then. These demo's got 'simple minds 'written all over them.
@rijnsewijn You are obviously correct. EVERYONE had a Roland TR-707 or 808 (where the band 808 State got their name) back then. I had one in my home studio.
Wow that's good

So this is how it would have been aka New Gold Dream Style...
hard to pick really - both the Lillywhite & this demo are pretty awesome

Totally love it.
Sort of how the album would have been like.New gold dream version of Sparkle.
However, producer Lillywhite cracked the sound open wide as he did for U2 and so many other bands in the 80s and beyond. The guy is a genius.
Thanks again for this rare gem.

@stevetriple agree completely with the Lilywhite comment.

These are demo's , according to Jim Kerr some were ditched.
Most highly the demo's that were made in september 1983 in the Rockfield studio's.
Experimental riff playing by Charlie Burchill...
Anyway the album was finished in oktober 1983 in the Townhall Studio's in London

I would like the original of this too. Any danger of letting us know where we can get it?
dripwhiskers 2 years ago 6
@dripwhiskers
it is not to get. It is from a stolen studio tape.
There are 4 instrumental songs on this tape from Charlie and Michael.
Maybe you can get it on a fan site.
