This is ok. But like Green Day, The Offspring and Rancid it is not punk. It is bubblegum pop music. Don't get me wrong I like some of these bands but If you want true punk music pick up a Ramones ,Sex Pistols, Black Flag or a Dead Kennedy's album. That's true punk.

The Sex Pistols were greatly influenced by the Ramones as was every punk band after. Check into your punk music history and become educated before you comment. I think people tend 2 forget that MXPX has been around for a very long time and having very many different sounds on there many albums. They are pretty musical. The fact that they chose this sound right now probally isn't to be what modern day kids call "main stream" or EMO rock etc.

It's just them trying a different sound. Give it 2 - 3 years and they'll have a completely different sound again.

Definitely not an Emo sound with the new music, just a lighter more modern punk. Similar to Blink 182's musical style in some respects, they even featured Mark Hoppus in Wrecking Hotel Rooms. They've been around much longer than Blink 182 was though, so it's not really a cop thing. They are like you said just trying to evolve into a more modern sound, but they are still staying true to punk rock.

Longer nonetheless, the amount time is irrelevant to the point. They both released their first CDs in the same year. MxPx just had more success early on, thus my reasoning behind saying they had "been around" much longer. Blink didn't hit good until the record in 1999, MxPx was tossing records out fast in the mid 90's and peaked that period in 1998 with SGTWotB. MxPx started fast, hit a peak, and leveled down, Blink started slow and hit the peak, then dropped out.
