The sweater and the vocal delivery smack of "Punch The Clock" so I wonder if this is 1984 and not 1981, when "Big Sister's Clothes" was released. There's also several more seconds of awkward interview/intro that's missing.
That's what made this band so fantastic. Amazingly sophisticated drummer; melodic bass player who fills in where Elvis's guitar playing falls short; Steve Nieve's vast skill as an arranger, and of course the voice and songwriting of EC. More talent in each of them than most bands have between them.
This is soo cool! This era 4 these 4 guys is probably the best as a group effort. He is my favorite drummer period. Please people - tell me I'm not the only one who is continually "led" by his drumming? I'll go wherever his drumming in the song goes. Drumming so sophisticated yet completely rocks! This is a grand song. EC's voice is as good as it gets here. EC still seems young, but probably getting better under the covers, you know, discovering the creativity of sex + his music simultaneously.
Oh yeah, Imperial Bedroom is the best! It's great that Elvis always seem to think there's still growth in his songs. They're never finished. He still finds new ways to perform them. Big Sister's Clothes is another example of his great talent. A pretty song, just over 2 minutes long, with more depth and melody than other groups would have in 3 whole songs. Elvis is king!
One of my favorite Elvis songs. Even better here than on the rycodisc re-release of Trust. Its amazing that he can still manage to kick serious ass in a Cosby sweater and some Dockers.
Oh. Okay. :) Oops. That was when he maybe thought his pub rock look was still do-able (it wasn't). Actually, I'm totally surprised he wore it, but hey - who cares now, right? He's still Elvis.
Those jumpers were all the rage back then, I should know because, I had one in the same style, but in mustard and chocolate brown. Oh the 80's, not exactly the most stylish of decades.
i've been a dedicated fan for nearly 30 years, and i've never heard this up-tempo arrangement. ever. great sound quality, great video. but man what a catastrophic sweater. that's 1981 for ya.
Judging by that sweater, it looks like he's wearing big sister's clothes. Put the song is fantastic and it is a passionate performance that is a little more fleshed out than the album version. Very nice. Let's all hope that sweater will never become retro cool.
absolute ace many thanks i just tap the computer and get this brilliance if not for you and others i'd be stuck i mean it

Steve rocks in this. Great rendition of an obscure song that happens to be one of my favorites. EC sounds fantastic.

As much as I do like his performance, I REALLY wanted to hear an album version but no one posted that version. Oh well.

@NinaKatarina There are hardly any versions of Trust songs online. It annoys me.

A great song - the first in the post-Nick Lowe producer era. This live version really foreshaows the dense sound on Imperial Bedroom!

Man, his voice is dreamy. BUT. When he sings "fashion went out of fashion..." I think he meant that Steely Dan sweater.

Actually, it's "compassion went out of fashion." But, yeah, goofy-ass sweater to be sure.
