  • great video. thank you. I cast on by knitting off my finger as I was taught by my 80 year old mother. She learned from her grandmother! I think your method results in very neat stitches.

  • Thank you for uploading this! This way of casting on is so much easier.

  • Thank you--you are the 4th one I watched and I finally got it from you. Thank you bunches.

  • Thank you so much! Clear, slow, helpful!

  • its still comfusing

  • so helpful, I picked it up in no time watching this!! thank you!!

  • i tried doing this not kidding 18 times. and every time it just came undone after i made the x with the needles. i have tried 72 different videos they all either made no sense. were to complicated (like this one kind of was) unclear. or ended up like this video did. i just wanna cast on so i can actually knit. can someone please make a video that makes some sense please!?

  • @LGPstudios123

Poor Kid! you may need to go to your fav knit store and get an on-hands tutorial! I learned to knit on line, but sometimes 'it' doesn't take.

  • you are amazing!! you make it look so easy and it worked!! thank youu!!!

  • YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!

  • Just a thought but I use my thumb cause its easer

  • Why am I watching this?

  • @EvilKiteeProductions

    Because your an idiot!!

  • This is the best tutorial for casting on that I have seen. Well done. It gives me a great result.

  • i got it so fast and it was really slow just how it works

  • Best version I've see on youtube. Picked it up within seconds, thanks!

  • Thank you so much for this slow version! Because of you, I have this down pat. All the other instructional videos were confusing to me. I found myself pausing and pausing, and I still couldn't get it. Now I can finally begin my knitting journey! LOL!

  • I would like to say Thank you for doing the slow version, I really appreciate you taking the time to work with someone as slow as I am.

  • Great video and perfect speed/repetition for newbies. Thank you!

  • is this the same results and type as a long tail cast on? Or is this a different cast on entirely.

  • Thank you... best and simplest video I'm seen for this. Made my life easier.

  • thanks, so well done

  • i loved it! so much easier than anything I've seen! Now I need to go to the next row... HELP!

  • @chrisandmer

next step is HOW TO KNIT THE KNIT STITCH. happy knitting. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • hey im new i just learned thanks

  • Thank you so much! This was very, very,VERY helpful to me and thank you for uploading this and your guidance through it!

  • This is fantastic! I've watched a dozen videos and this is the very first one that actually made sense! Thank you so much! :)

  • thanks now i can actully start making somthing with yarn. i just have it all around the house and i never use it . :p

  • That was so much easier to follow than the first video. :) Thank you so much!

  • thank you your really helping :D

  • Out of all the knitting videos I've watched, yours are the most easiest to understand.

  • what is the next step after you learn to cast on....anyone....? Can you rec'd video.

  • I JUST CANT DO IT!!!!! CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME

  • @savvyagdancer13 NIETHER!!!

  • @PaigePayne123

    what???

  • is it just a regular knot in the beginning? cause when i do that the knot always come unknotted.

  • I love all your videos!! So helpful! You're a good teacher!

  • wow this is the 3rd video that shows 3 diff ways of casting is their a right way or is it whichever make you comfortable

  • I never saw the fast version, but this was absolutely perfect! Thank you so much. This is a much more beautiful cast on than the one I had learned previously. Thank you again.

  • I watched a lot of videos, but I have learned only with your video.Thank you!

  • Great video! Thanks, I really needed the repetitions, so informative!

  • This is amazing. Thank you so much!

  • Thank you!

  • Iv'e always cast on differently for years and it always left a weird loose end to my knitting and I didn't like it. Your video is awesome! I love this way of casting on so much better! It looks neat and tidy, not loose and floppy.

  • but what if your left handed?

  • Oh my God! That was so awesome. I was so confused until I saw this video. I would watch other videos and think I was doing it exactly the same but something was not right. The stitches were way too loose and all over the place. I watched this video once and it was easy. It clicked right away. Thank you, you taught me how to knit!

  • Your AWESOME!!!! :D

  • i have a easy way and better way

  • Wow, this is fantastic. I got it after watching the video once. My cast on was always too tight & this solved my problem. You also don't have to guess how much of a tail to leave. Thank you Judy!

  • P.s. just finished watching the whole thing and dravo to you ma'am! Bravo to you.

  • Im sorry people spoke/wrote so rudly to you on your other video. I read the comments. But we reap what we sow. Its so sad because all you tried to do was help. Stay sweet. And thank you

  • Thank you Judy! The pace is perfect, and very helpful!!! I love this cast on, it's so tidy!

Your patience in the video is much appreciated!

  • wonderful thank you very much. the key with videos folks is that you pause and rewind as often as needed. having it this slow was so helpful!

  • Very helpful, Judy! Thanks for the very clear instruction. Casting on is quite simple with your help!

  • Thank you so much for this video! You tought me how to knit <3

  • Thanks! This was very helpful! :)

  • Oohhhh! I get it !

  • ITS STILL TOO HARD FOR ME!!!! ITS STILL TOO FAST AND WHEN YOU MAKE THE X AND PUT THE YARN I DON'T GET IT!!!! i WILL JUST ASK MY MOMS FRIEND BECAUSE CLEARLY YOUTUBE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT KNITTING!!!!

  • @summer2fun1500 Unfortunately, you're an idiot, plain and simple. Your ignorance has nothing to do with this lady's ability to teach the technique. I have a feeling you could sit in front of the grand master herself, and you would be a failure.

  • @dontlikeignorance Shut up! I don't know you, so don't judge me. You don't like ignorance but your ignorant, so shut up or we will have a problem!

  • Finally a video that works for me. The other videos I kept finding were so stupid.

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to show me this 4 FREE.

  • ITS TO FAST

  • thanks judy its very helped for beginners like me :)

  • great tips thanks! This really helped

  • Thank you so much! That was a great, very slow paste tutorial. That was a great video :)

  • I must be dumb because this is still too fast for me. >.<

  • Thank you so much for this video! The instruction book that came with the needles totally confused me, but this slow, step by step video helped SO much.

  • i like u(:

  • booooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Oh my gosh! You just taught me how to do this! I'm excited - I had tried reading the book I got with the needles and yarn and it just was not happening. I figured there must be (hoped there would be) someone on Youtube who would show how to do this and sure enough here you are. Thank you! I've wanted to learn for a long time and you've taught me my first step! :)

  • Perfect tutorial! Was exactly how I (a novice) needed to see it!

  • I suck but thx.

  • @PeRrYtHpLaTaPus

    OHHH, thanks! (;

  • This helped me a lot! It's so much better than the others on the internet. And to those of you asking how many stitches to do while casting on, you do as many as you'd like. That is what makes the width of the item you're knitting! Thanks much!

  • omg! thank you so much, it helped me!!! :D

  • just a little confused... can u help? email is akwildhorses79@yahoo.ca

  • Thank you! ^^

I want to know the recommended number of those casting on stitches? Does anyone know?

  • @IrisC357

i usually tend to do twenty

  • @IrisC357 it just depends on the pattern you are working on, the pattern you are using should tell you how many to cast on, what are you making?

  • thank you so much for this vid!

  • I don't get what the heck is going on no matter how many times you repeat it. It always just falls off the needle! So confused.

  • this helped soooo much thanks

  • @Goofygoober041299

GLAD THIS WORKED FOR YOU. please keep watching and learning. look for me on facebook too.

  • This is so helpful - I tried about three videos before yours until I got it. I really like how you don't focus on how to hold the yarn - I think that's where I was messing up before. Many many thanks!

  • Still too fast

  • @lacrossegrrrl

I hope you watched more times till you got it, or learned to cast on somehow. It's worth it to learn to knit.

  • I still can't do it. Fail.

  • @pancakexmas

oh, I hope you watched it more and finally got it. it's so worth it to learn how to knit.

  • Thank you so much, I was shown a much 'simpler' way but I find this way much better. The repetition helped so much

  • @MissEmiolia

glad to hear you liked the video. I can't imagine any way that's any simpler, but that's probably because I've been doing it this way forever. hope you keep watchingl

  • This was the best demonstration of casting on ever. Far less confusing than anything else I've been shown. Thank you so much!

  • Thank you, this was perfect :)

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy hello, i have a question, where do i buy needles, ive seen them before, but much thicker than that.. do you know where to buy the needles the same size as yours?

  • Thank you!! This helped me so much!

  • Yey I get it thank you...it's been like 15 years since I have done this. This is exciting!

  • Excellent thank you so much x

  • thank you i've wanted to learn to knit for a long time and now i kno how thanks to you, awesome :)

  • you r a miracle worker!

  • I want to say in knitting & crocheting it takes patients, & all your videos teach the stitchs very well, People I know they are short demostrations but have patients and just repeat the video over and over even pause the videos and back it up some to learn it. She does a great job in teaching. Thanks Judy

To learn crochet or knitting it takes alot of practice. So easy as Judy says it is

  • thank u so much. i can cast on now!!

  • it took me at least 8 times replaying the first few minutes to actually get it and now ive got it :)

  • Thank you Judy. This was an excellent demonstration! I hadn't knitted in over 30 years. I admit I had to watch it a few times and then there it was! I already have three rows of knitting already! This was very helpful!

  • Don't ever take this video down ... I have to come back to it every time I start a new project. Do you have one to describe how to change yarn colors?

  • thank you so much ! i learned cast on just 10 min!!! thank you !!!!!!

  • @tomokotsuzuki

so glad my video helped you learn. please keep watching and like me on facebook.

  • Ver helpful thankyou. I did take me watching you do the stitch about 5 times until I completely understood how it worked and how to do it. I am just beginning and I mainly want to knit to make wool soaker for my children as nappy covers. Do you think a beginner could knit them? The pattern looks like its in a different language and I have no idea what all the letters mean.

  • It is still a bit too fast
