  • why did they change it, this is proper good

  • and what the heck is doing Damon ? singing back vocals ? or he doesn't play on this

  • Awesome! It kind of sounds chewed but it adds to it I suppose lol brilliant.

  • I slightly prefer the more polished version which comes up near the top of the list when you search this song on YouTube. However, it's so so pleasing to see people think that Blur should have made this song better than the album version. I often burn cd's trying to get people into Blur and this is one of the songs I always put in because I know they'll like it. Arguably my favourite Blur song.

  • This song literally lifts my mood whenever i listen to it, so so much better than the album cut and beagle 2 version.

  • I really love this version, it could stay in this form...Why they ´ve changed it so much? Album version is really different.

  • This is so much better than the album version....

  • honestly, for me this is by far one of the best blur tracks. god knows why they ripped such an awesome song down to faggy keyboard jingles.

  • To me this sounds like something that would have fit right in on Modern Life is Rubbish. Blur wanted to go in a direction for the next album which is why I think they made Far Out more....Far Out lol

  • They put out an alternate version like this somewhere it's amazing...but the album version has it's own barrett-like quality, like miss america

  • this is AWSOME!!!!

whay did'nt they put this version on the album???

always loved this, now I like it even more!

  • Did Alex ever do any other songs? I love his voice.

  • better than the original! haha

  • Fucking hell, this is one of the biggest injustices in music history! Would have been a clear stand out on parklife, and it's already an untouchable album! I would actually agree with you on the damon idea, i can't see any other reason they would spare this brillaint version

  • If this version was worked out and had not a demo sound I would like it 10x more than now (and I like it already)

  • Sounds dreadful. The album version is full of mystery.

  • alex is sexy

  • Comment removed

  • I still don't get why they didn't use this version for the album, it's AWESOME! it's like... happier, more joyful, i simply love it! Ai shiteru, Alex James!!!! ♥♥♥

  • IF they had included this on the album, they would have been "forced" to release this as a single and THEN people would have associated Alex James as a Blur frontman, not Damon. It's as easy as that!

  • @pinheadsen They really wouldn't have had to release it as a single. It's nowhere near that good and if they weren't foced to release This Is A Low they wouldn't be forced to release this song or any song. And people aren't as stupid as to associate Alex as a frontman. They didn't do that to Graham did they despite him singing lead vocals on 2 songs and the chorus on Tender. Esepcially when his singing isn't particularly good. Also the album version is more spacey which fits the lyrics better.

  • its Alex singing and Graham at backingvocals.

check Grahams voice in Tender and Alex voice in the album version of this music.

  • Personally, I prefer the album version. It's so sweet and lovely and the sound of it fits perfectly considering it's about space. This demo is good, but a bit too uptempo for me. I do wish the album version was longer like the demo though.

  • Can't see this being as good as the album one, but this one is good too.

  • its bloody Alex singing !!! Graham backing !!!

  • charmlessman666.......i dont get what your talking about with damon not wanting alex singing....this is coxon singing and alex in the backround

  • I'm pretty sure that's Alex. Seeing as the voice sounds just like Alex's voice on the album version.

  • agreed

  • this is Alex singing for the love of god !!!

  • @mattfuckinghirst I'm pretty sure that it's the other way around, I distinctly hear Alex and more of Graham in the background

  • @mattfuckinghirst wrong

Alex sings lead, with what sounds like Damon and Graham harmonizing

other than the harmonies, Damon is absent

  • @DigitalBoyTV never mind

    there's no Damon

  • I love this so much ^^, Can't stop listening to it.

And now I know where the title comes from (I know it still makes sense without the lyrics actually saying 'far out' but still)

10 billion l-iii-ghtyears wide and time on e-iiii-ther side...

  • love the album version but love this too. sounds very guided by voices

  • i think they should have met in the middle with the demo and album version. theyre both good, but would sound better with elements of both

  • You mean like a Strawberry Fields type thing? Agreed.

  • yehh definitely

  • shame this song was scaled back so much for the record - its great

  • this is far better. some snazzy lyrics.

  • I read it in Blur's biography-Damon simply didn't like the fact that someone other than him was writing something. So, the song got practically killed. But, for Beagle 2 call, the new version of this was recorded, sounding almost identical.

  • I doubt that. I mean, Graham got "You're So Great" on the self-titled without it being touched by the other members.

  • Alex wrote his during Parklife sessions, when Damon was of a different opinion about anyone else writing other than him. Read the biography!

  • That was in 1997, after they'd had 2 UK number one albums and 9 UK top 10 singles. Damon's self-confidence was far more fragile in 1993 when they were tracking "Parklife", and - according to Maconie's biography - they were still struggling with the tunes that would later become smashes when Alex showed them this. At least it became a B-side eventually.

  • rubbish, the orig is the best tune on the album

  • There's a newer version of this song uploaded!

  • If this had ended up on the album it would have ended up as a single. Then people would have thought Blurs lead singer was Graham Coxon not Damon Albarn. That's why it was trashed!

This IS better than the Parklife version!

  • it's Alex James singing!

  • er, it is on the album

  • oh, you mean this version, sorry

  • I hate the fact that people don't realise that Damon doesn't do lead vocals on every song. Some idiot told me that Damon did lead for Coffee and TV and I ended up having to use wikipedia to prove him wrong =(

  • So, This is a demo of the Far Out (Beagle 2 Version) not the album version, huh? I wonder why they picked the Syd Barrett sound and not this...either way, Blur is awesome...way better than Oasis.

  • The audio on this one isnt very good Charmless, any chance of redoing it? And any chance of getting the album versions of these up? I'm from Australia so theres no way I could get my hands on these b sides.

  • I'm afraid there isn't. That's just the condition they were in when I found them. And anyway, there not b sides, there demo's. So the quality will vary anyway.

  • Yes I didnt mean those files were the b sides, I meant the recordings of those songs that became the b sides, those songs are b sides

  • There's no way you'll find this in beter quality.

  • I can't hear Damon singing. Is he in this song at all???

  • No!

(P.S what on earth is this audio preview thing on the comments?

    wee

    cock

    bum

  • I still prefer the album one

  • You are saying that 1/3 of an apple is better than a whole one?

  • depending on the quality of that apple, i guess ;). I don't know, maybe it's a matter of taste.

  • One of my favorites(demo).

  • GREAT FIND ! There is a similar "rock" version of this song in outstanding quality on the Japanese "No Distance Left To Run" DVD single. It is featured during the 'Beagle 2' (RIP) footage. Cheers !

  • Haha it's got that Sunday Sunday feel to it, which is great but may not fit well into Parklife. Perhaps that's why the album version ended up a lot more acoustic.

  • hello charmless man666 can you send me please your demos songs please(sorry if my inglish is bad, because i am from mexico) arriba blur uhuuuuuuuuuu¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • I like the gentle rhythm of the album version, but this is longer...

  • I sorta like the album version better.. space sounds and all -- they should've played this live or something though.

  • its well the best 30 seconds on the album

  • Nnnnnnnnnnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooo, you are wrong.

  • im sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo not!

  • I mean the other songs are great too.

  • ive looked for this version everywhere, where the hell did you get it, i only have it on the no distance dvd, can you download it anywhere

  • What's the No Distance DVD? I've never heard of it and I'm eager to devour anything Blur.

  • Is the album version 2 times shorter or am I mistaken?

  • Your not mistaken. The album BUTCHERS it.

  • this demos remind me of the previous album. Which suffered from low quality production compared to future albums.

  • That's why it can be called lo-fi. And by the way, recording without computers is not bad quality.

  • The demo version is one of the greatest things that happened to the world of music!!!

  • Reminds me of the words Fritz The Cat says at the end of the movie:"Far out!"...BOOM!!!

  • Bouncy, but I like the album version a tad bit better.

  • I would prefer the album version, but only if you get the whole song, instead of ending it half way through.

  • Isn't it kinda obvious why they changed it though? Alex loves space and stars and astronomy, so why not make it sound more "out of this world"?

Thats the logical explination for me.

But I agree, the demo and the Beagle 2 version of this song are better than the album one.

  • this is awesome dude, thanks for posting!

  • alex is a great singer

  • This version is awesome!!!! Wow I love this version!!!

  • I still cannot understand why Blur changed it for the album version, this is SO cool, I simply love it! I cannot stop listening to it, and I do like the album version too, but this is great!

  • This is fucking cool - Blur before Stephen's knife - Ghraham being alittle too sharp... All the Parklife demos shrow a alternate Britpop reality... So threw know the grand grind of Blur minus Stephen Street. A joy.

  • What DO you have against Stephen Street?

  • Woah! This is totally different - in a surreal way. I like both versions, tbh, but I do prefer the album version. Alex does well as usual though.

  • did nobody get the snip of 'message centre' on the end of that!??! weird!

  • He sings really good, I like it.

  • I like this demo more than the cd version

  • alex is singing?

  • You should hear Dave sing on the Wassaling Song.

  • He sang? Which part? I thought only Damon singing...

  • Well, its Alex's song. So why not.

Hearing this for the first time in ages. He doesn't have a bad voice doses he? He could have been the George Harrison of Blur.

  • His voice is good, but Damon's better! Yes I agree...i like this song...

  • I found this comment of yours completely by accident. Alex sang all the parts(don't you recognize his voice?

  • Ofcourse! I knew all the time, thats why I searched this song specifically to hear Alex! He has a good voice, rather like Grahams i think...Damon has a completely different sound!

  • I'm sure Damon let Alex do whatever he wanted with the song, and personally I like the album version more 'cause it's more spacey and out there. Not that this version isn't great too. (they should have put it on as a b-sides thing)

  • Oh, i was only joking about Damon. And i'm pretty sure this was on "no distance left to run", i think.

  • figa sta versione....

  • I like the cd version better but this good too
