Amazingly, this only got a PG in the UK instead of a 12A. My 7yo nephew was terrified when he first saw this, gave him loads of nightmares! We had no idea it was going to have something as intense as this when we took him to see it.
This scene scared the hell out of me when I first saw it. I still find it to be very disturbing actually. It just goes to sow how something can be made frightening without the use of blood.
TYPICAL RAIMI FILMING! I love it! It is SUCH an Evil Dead moment right down to the surgeon raising up the chainsaw like Ash. There was no music. It wasn't needed for this scene. The sound effects was more than enough. And the arms with the camera attached, quickly going towards chainsaw surgeon from their POV as if they're "The Evil" from Evil Dead. I fucking LOVED this scene!
Apparently he did take shop class when he should have been taking a welding class because he doesn't realize that A SMALL CHAINSAW LIKE THAT CAN'T CUT THROUGHT METAL!!!
yes i agree, all characters evil or good must be understandble. I mean creators must show how they became evil and show their psychology! Nowadays films are losing this making evil just a joke, life is just a joke...( Joker)
@darksoulzzzz The unique case about the Joker is that they've kept consistent in (most of) his incarnations that his origin is a mystery - nobody EVER knows who he once was or what made him become the Joker. Few takes have tried to peek at what he may have been like pre-Joker, such as Lovers And Madmen, Going Sane, The Killing Joke, and of course the '89 movie. The Killing Joke is the most popular and accepted Joker story, giving him a possibly tragic background and explanation.
@SpinalTree Do you know where i can read The Killing Joke, because i want to try understand Jokers psychology. Joker is the hardest to understand victim of all times and comics.
@darksoulzzzz Any bookstore with a decent selection of Batman comics should have it, it's among the top 4 greatest Batman comics ever, alongside Batman: Year One, The Dark Knight Returns, and Arkham Asylum: A Serious House On Serious Earth. If it interests you at all, The Killing Joke is written by Alan Moore, who is also noted for writing Watchmen, V For Vendetta, and Swamp Thing. Another good book on Joker's psychology is Joker by Brian Azzarello, though it's not for the faint of heart.
I just watched Spiderman 2 earlier today and never realised just how much of Sam Raimi is in this scene. It's like hes back making Evil Dead movies <3 I got a nerd-on when I saw the hand raising the chainsaw at the end.
I never cared much for him in the comics, but Doc Ock easily became one of the most bad asses heroes ever. This scene is much more than graphics, it's the sheer essence of what villains are made of! This actor, and Heath Ledger are giving life to comics most gruesome kind. Such lack of regard for life, the execution of it all... Excuse me while I just geek out.
Doc always impressed me in the comics. I do agree that this is one of the finest comic villain portrayals to grace film, but to discredit the character otherwise would be a crime. It would be like saying every Joker incarnation ever save for Heath Ledger's is obsolete, when the truth is many are quite amazing, without taking from these film performances. I recommend the comic "Spider-Man/Dr. Octopus: Year One"; it shows the depth and menace of his character on a whole other level.
Forget Spider-Man or Doctor Octopus. This film should have been about Unfeasibly-Strong-Nails Nurse. Is she Wolverines long-lost grandaughter or something?
I will never forget seeing this scene in the theaters. While everyone else seemed horrified, I had a big grin. I had watched Evil Dead and Army Of Darkness the night before. Sometimes Sam can't help himself. The scene was like a deranged wink to his horror fans.
Loooooooool! If this were for real my classamets would shit them selves seeing deadly robotic arms of doom and destraction! :D
I know my English sux and my classmates are bunch of idiots they think spiderman movies are for kids and loosers! They should think again this far my favorite spiderman movie in existence, couse its sooooooo ciolent and awsome! :)
@strawlaneproductions I think Landis was the doctor who Peter tries to get advice from when he's getting a checkup later on in the movie. Maybe. I might be wrong.
Four deadly arms that can think for themselves... I want them. It would be cool to have an extra set of (hands?). I would never have to take a self defense class. Thanks for uploading by the way, its an awesome scene. :D
Everyone thinks superheroes and comic books are just for kids. I own *plenty* of Spider-Man comics that parents would never want to let their children read.
@FinalFantasyGirl3 I love that superhero material as a whole is a very versatile thing. It can fit any genre and any age group. Unfortunately most people seem to generalize that superheroes are only for kids and get absolutely shocked when things like The Dark Knight, Watchmen, and Kick-Ass come out in theaters, and the parents complain and complain while I just roll my eyes and think "FFS, superheroes have gone through stuff more grim than this since before the 80's."
@SpinalTree The thing is that many people say "i grew up with it" and I totally agree, that the whole hero-concept is mistaken to be for kids. I see your point :)
This scene used to terrify me to the point where I couldn't even bring myself to open my eyes during it. Why couldn't they have done the stuff with the Symbiote like this?
You could definitely tell this is a Sam Raimi movie even you have no idea who the director is. Sam has his own unique style apart from other directors.
Love this scene it was orginial Sam Rami style back to the basics of Evil Dead. It was competely dark and set apart from the rest of the film and I loved it.
@snowballer234 They'd probably just restrain him. I mean, there are 4 of them, which is twice the number of arms he has. Plus, they're connected to his brain, his neural synapses, so they know what he's thinking, and the can also bend his thoughts.
Aside from all this. He's fictional, so... whatever.
