  • the best cover on youtube easy, better than eric claptopns. and the best ive seen in person was done by one man very similar to you but his was slower and he really put alot of emphasis on the lyrics by keeping the strum pattern simple. just a little of my two cents, either way its great!

  • Why is there a baby crying and notification sounds in the background?

Also, The best cover I heard so far :)

  • I know it in D minor

  • man this was sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

    keep up the great work

    Rich in WV

  • Beautiful pickin' My friend. Nicely done. :-)

  • WEll done! Nice finger work! Meaningful without being flashy!

  • Brilliant. I do a version of this with an archtop-sounding electric guitar and harmonica player in the background. Really gives me something to look up to. Peace.

  • hi,

please write in a short form a tab from your picking, maybe for the first verse.

i love your style, thank you ;-)

  • hey very nice cover!

btw is it me or your guitar is little bit lower on tone than standard?

  • Very good! Ganz groß! Tres bien! My favourite Song and you did it just right... Sends me shivers down my spine! Thank you very much!

  • your version of this song will most likely forever be more ballsy than mine. love it.

  • I like the way you played this. It reminds me of Steve Goodman.

  • this is really great, definitely my favorite youtube version so far

  • Just look at the chords he's playing and pick out the melody. Aint too hard folks.

  • very great

could i have a tab for it ?

  • very nice

  • watch?v=DNaMQGsrbV8&feature=related

  • tabs porfavor

  • Det här var bra! Lagom robust med en härlig basgång.

  • It's great, 5 stars !

  • This is one of my favorite versions on youtube... you've got a great feel for the song vocally and instrumentally. Especially the way you pluck the bass notes- it turns the guitar into a percussion instrument- that gives the song a rough, bluesy feel. Very well done my friend!

  • you're tuned down 1/2 step aren't you?

Excellent btw, just trying to jam along and the tuning doesn't fit.

  • very nice arrangement =] =] is there tabs flying around for it anywhere??

  • Excellent version, and the "choppiness" of the sound adds to the feel of the song!! It has that Bourbon Street feel, the way it should be done!!

The White Stripes version is, in a word, Garbage!!

  • i have to know how you're doing this. do you have a tab for it?

  • This is absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for putting it up!

  • i like the baby crying in the background. : )

  • Nice guitar arrangement. It would sound better though if it were less choppy.

But, honestly, the singing is cheesy. Sorry, it just is.

  • Can you tell us whats the order of the strings you play with you right hand? great performance

  • I know this is the original and it is good but i prefer the cab calloway or white stripes version

  • by the way nice job

  • u gotta hear Armstrong's version

  • lol i like that one too its just the lyrics of this one i don't like as much the songs itself is always good

  • One of us is outa tune . . .

  • Your performance is magic!

Where did you find the tabs/chords?

  • nice version man....

  • The first time I heard this song it was Arlo Guthrie's version. I loved it. Then I started looking for alternate versions, both old and new. I found many but this is one of my favorites. Very good job rightsaidshane.

  • sounds very fine , best version

  • Excellent!!

  • Dude, I have no idea what the strum pattern is. Mind posting some tabs? Either way, this is an awesome version of this song.

  • man this is sucha good version

  • very good. one of the best versions of this song on youtube.

  • Whoa!! That rock's!! sounds like the Lime lighters?? Either way , it's better than my version, but, it is one of the first songs I learned from a friend. Sure I will be able to improve on my version!!

  • very cool, i love this song. good playin

  • Hey!

I can't figure out the exact chord progression... it's that c chord that is elusive...

    so far I'm playing...

    Am, E7, Am, E, F, E7

    Am, E7, C(?), Dmaj7,Dm/Am

    Can you clarify a bit?

    Thanks!

  • ah... I think you're looking for

    Am E7 Am/C DMaj7 F

  • Yes! Exactly. I should have guessed the Am/C chord, but it's a bit difficult to see exactly where your fingers are in that chord.

    Thanks!

  • Great tune,i like your style!

(i have a roger mcguinn video of this song)

    ***** & fav

    pepi

  • Hey man! that's great. You're great. I tried to play it too, but is dificult. I use pick and this song is for fingers.

    Keep the blues alive.

    What guitar do you use?

  • Thanks for the nice comment. I play a Simon&Patrick pro maple. I was lucky to find one that was made before they were bought out by another larger company.

  • Good Job Man!! Sounding good. Hope you're doing well. Keep up the great work!

  • thanks slim. hope all is well with you :-)

  • yeah, it's all good, been checking out your other videos, and sound great! Keep pickin' & grinnin' & keepin' the Blues Alive. Hope ur doing well!

  • are you playing only dave van ronks version or do play your own stuff and the same time?

  • hi is there a tab for this? good playing otherwise!

  • Nicely done. I like the Snake Farm version too.

  • Simply amazing.

  • ok cheers, im sure ill come across it somewhere ;) very nicely done btw

  • hay, where did you get the tabs for this, i can only find really bad guesses!! any chance of posting them???

  • I got it from a book called "Folk and Blues Fingerstyle Guitar" by Dave Van Ronk.

  • the song is in standard tuning and in the key of Am.

    The chords involved are Am E7 F C D7.

2 things to keep in mind:

1 keep thumping the bass string with each beat

2 mix up on some of the chord variations (try different ways to play the same chord)

  • yea that helps soo much, i've been trying to figure it for a while. cheers

    :-)

  • That's a great version of the song, and I gotta admit I grabbed a couple of new licks from it. Have you ever heard the Willie McTell version? Good job, man!

  • I dont think I know his version. I'll see if i can find it and have a listen. Glad you liked it!

  • Thanks for the song mate. You blues ;o)

  • Any time my friend

  • I posted a little harp bit from St.James Infirmary, but I didn't have the right harp key to do it exactly in your tuning..

  • awesome. dave van ronk is great

  • Brilliant

  • thanks!

  • this is such an awesome song!!! your hip!

  • Its a great tune. Cab does it best!

  • do you know where i can get the tabs or chords for that version you're playing... i've looked everywhere and can't find a good one anywhere!!! thanks!

  • I got it from a book called "Folk and Blues Fingerstyle Guitar" by Dave Van Ronk

  • He has his guitar tuned down a half step, and most of the song is Am (concert A flat minor) and Em7 (concert pitch E flat minor 7). can you figure it out now? It's really not all that hard.

  • Hey man, the song is in standard tuning and in the key of Am.

    The chords involved are Am E7 F C D7.

2 things to keep in mind:

1 keep thumping the bass string with each beat

2 mix up on some of the chord variations (try different ways to play the same chord)
