I think he is more refering to, that he's a German. Jews find it very normal that they've got national feelings, Turkish people find it very normal and nessesary to have national feelings, Chinese, Japanese, but when German have them or any other European country it's called nazi (nationalists). He is obviously not serious, and I think Von Trier's a great director, but there really was no excuse for him to make such clumsy and stupid remarks. In the same way political correctness is the summit of stupidity, provocation just for the sake of provocation, without any sense of sharpness or insightfulness (which I think Von Trier's very capable of, even on delicate matters) is absolutely unacceptable. You can't just call Cannes organisers snob for showing such things are intolerable.

I understand Lars von Trier. I think he did here some wrong things but I can see him sitting in that chair... It wasn't smart at all off him to make these conmments, but I think that due to his poor English, he couldn't explain what he actually ment...and he made it worse and worse for himself by trying to talk he's way out of it.
I don't think he is a nazi but what happened in the second world war was so extremly terrible that you cannot say you understand and sympathise a bit with Hitler without expecting that "shit will it the fan"....I don't feel sorry for him

Then deranged people might feel their crazy acts to be legitimate, especially if these individuals uses the movies ingredients in reality.
In the public eye you have a responsability as there really are potential criminals out there.
