  • Well done. Thank you for the clear and easy how to steps. I will definitely start one tomorrow.

  • Bravooooo! Thanks to your CLEAR instrucions I made four different hats until now!

    All the best from Prishtina

  • Beanie hat

  • Thank you so much for this great video! It's so much watching someone than trying to follow written instructions. (Until I can do it) Thank you!!!

  • @MyCHawkins You are welcome.

  • I finished the 11 rows perfectly and am single crocheting all the way around without stopping until appx 31 correct? I am about half way there and it looks like the hat is just getting wider and wider? What am I doing wrong? I started perfectly and now I am getting discouraged! HELP!! YOU have taught me to crochet!! AWESOME and INFORMATIVE videos! Thank you for sharing your talent!

  • Why does my seaming always slant to the right. Even these seamless hats, I mark as I go up the marks slant to the right.

  • You are an amazing teacher; you make everything look so simple. The only thing I have some trouble with is the Magic Circle. I'm all thumbs. Seriously, I think the arthritis I have in my left hand is part of what my problem is but I'll keep practicing. Thank you so much for all your help and useful information. You're the best!

  • @1ArizonaRose Thank you! You can use a chain instead of the magic circle if you prefer.

  • i am going to make this tomorrow to add to a baby blanket I am finishing up for a friend who is expecting. I have never made a beanie before but i get the concept. My question is how do i make this smaller as it seems this is going to be far too big for a newborn baby...?

  • i don't quite understand how you join/add rows. you can see the seam in all my beanies and i'm not sure what exactly i'm doing wrong :[

does the slip stitch when you join the rows count as the FIRST stitch where you make the slip stitch to start the next row, or is it the single crochet right afterwards? i guess i just want to know where the row ends... ?

  • @xomisspanda When you join rounds, most likely there will be a seam. You can work the continual round which will eliminate the seam. It is not anything you are doing.

  • @tjw1963 oh, ok.. it didn't look like there were seams in any of your beanies. they always look so nice and neat. anyway, thank you! :]

  • @xomisspanda I use the continual round with most of my caps

  • Love the video. The beginning was a little confusing. I had to go back several times to make sure I was doing it right. But this is my 2nd attemt (project) and it came out wonderful. Thank you SO much!!!

  • I'm so confused! I get the 3 chain and connect. But I can't see where you're inserting the hook to do the 10 Sc.

  • @TigerLilacs17 Around the chain.

  • Hi Teresa I'm making 2 hats one for a 10 year old, and one for a 11lbs newborn 5 days old!! I'm using red heart super saver...If I use and H hook will that be enough for the 10 year old and an G for the new born 11lb baby?/ Appreciate your advise.

    Love the videos always!!

  • @pamplemousse20 I would think that you should be able to get both caps out of a supersaver.

  • I'm really confused about Round 6. Do I do 2 stitches, 2 stitches, then 3 stitches? Or 1, 1, then 2? Or 2, 2, 1, 1? I'm sorry, this part was very confusing. I don't get what you mean by an "increase". I don't want to continue until this part is clarified, thanks :)

  • @BootstrapBoula An increase is two stitches in the same stitch

  • @tjw1963

Yeah, I was just confused about the order. But it's okay, I figured it out from reading some of the previous comments. My hat turned out really well, I think. Thanks so much for making this video!! It's actually the easiest one I could find. All the others were way too complicated for a beginner :)

  • @BootstrapBoula The order of the stitches is not going to matter. If you work your increase of 2 stitches first and then an individual stitch, it will still work out. When you are increasing, you want to make sure the stitches are even around the hat. If you worked the increases on one side, you may end up with a lopsided hat.

  • awesome help!!! thank you :)

  • @jnwhaley You are welcome! :)

  • how would you make an adjustment for a preemie cap? my grand nephew is abt 4.5 lbs and head circum is appx 10-12". Could you pls include some preemie caps and booties, I am also making some things for the nicu here and the maj of the babies are abt the same size. I really appreciate you and your talent.

  • So, I'm almost halfway done with the hat and I started crying. lol. My pregnancy hormones got the best of me! It's the cutest darn thing and I'll be following your how to make booties tutorial for after to make a matching set. Thank you so much, you're a wonderful teacher.

  • @amberrbiotchh Congratulations on your expected bundle! Thank you for the generous comment.

  • Hi all knitting

  • I just finished making the baby hat with your instructions both written and here on YouTube and it's amazing...very easy!!!...Thank you so much. Do you have a website?

  • You are an amazing teacher! I won't use anyone else's instructional videos. Thank you! :)

  • @MsMonsteroo You are so kind, thank you

  • Hi all kinsey young

  • @kinseypink1 Hi Kinsey!

  • How would you make this newborn size like 12-13" head?

  • What a great video! I'm a very early beginner and this was a great first project to get me excited about crochet, so simple and so cute! It took me a couple of tries to get the beginning right, but the rest was such a breeze, thanks so much!

  • You are the greatest. I have learned so much through you. I have crocheted for years but have learned so much from you.

  • HI!

Could you please tell me if you have instructions for a newborn baby beanie cap made with chenille? My daughter in law saw this cute one with ears, and asked me if I could make one for the baby., Of course, I've learned a lot from you, but never used chenille for any of my crochetting....Any suggestons??

    Thenks!

    Wanda

  • i am confused at row 6....can u explain?

  • @lekshmi1012 That confused me at first, too. It's 1 SC in first stitch, 1 SC in the second stitch, 2 SC in the third stitch, repeat

  • @melammaru

Thanks, I was confused about this too!

  • can u go slower next time

  • Just wanted to stop in and say thank you! I've been watching your tutorials and I have improved my crocheting techniques. I even made a baby beanie and it came out so cute! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm sorry it's hard to see. After you join your first three stitches and start on the ten sc where are you putting the needle? I seem to be trying this over and over and can't seem to get the hang of it. I'm just a beginner and trying to make a hat for my child. If you could tell me how to start off the ten sc that would be great, thank you.

  • @SavvyMack I am going to recommend that you become familiar with and practice the beginner crochet stitches first, and then come back to this tutorial. I will send you the playlist.

  • Thank you so much for the help! My Baby will look so cute because of your video!!!

  • @MrsElleB1 Please share a picture or video response once you get the booties complete.

  • There is no play button on the video, would you be able to send this to me as well as the playlist mentioned with all the beginner crochet stitches. Thank you so much. My tiny (5lb) little baby girl needs hats to stay warm.

  • @onthedl13 I do have a play button on mine. Maybe there was some site maintenance going on at the time you tried to watch the video since it seems to be working now. There is a live playlist linked in the video to the upper right called "More Baby Crochet Projects Here". This will take you to all the projects.

  • @onthedl13 The playlist is sent.

  • HI and thanks for the vid!!! i made a hat for my nephew...but i was wondering...how would i make one slightly larger for like a 1 year old or toddler?? would i go about it the same way or increase stitches more??

  • @rmw926 You will use more increase stitches and rounds. You can also use a larger crochet hook to make a larger cap.

  • make a video for people that dont know all the crochet lingo. I have no idea what ur talking about

  • @laughattack5697 I have a playlist with all the beginner crochet stitches that I am going to send to you.

  • Videos are the best way to learn to crochet. I've been trying for years from books and the videos did it for me. Thank you so much I love crochet.

  • @corvettekid7684 I appreciate the comment! Thank you!

  • Great video! A wonderfully easy pattern and perfect for beginners (like me!) Thank you for making it!

  • @Bunny0Ann I appreciate the comment.

  • how do you adjust the size?? Love your videos by the way!

  • omg thank you so much , I'm on rnd 11 and I'll finish it up later but thank you. you've made this so easy for me or anyone to learn from it and grow in this craft......

  • @SistaBigBones21 You are welcome.

  • hi, first of all i would like to thank you for this video. It is great!! one thing though. I am quite far on but am realising that it is just going to be too small. I take it all that i have to do is increase the amount of stitches a few more times in order to widen it?

  • @lyndseyrob25 What size of a head are you making the hat for?

  • @tjw1963 it is to fit my daughters head, 3-6 months, i have discovered that i am using a smaller hook with completely different yarn. i am nearly finished my second attempt and so far it is going well, also going to attach a flower. I will update you on how it goes, many thanks! :)

  • Thank you very much!! I've just made one for my Chemistry teacher's new baby girl. I appreciate all of your videos and look forward to seeing more tips and tutorials. ^_^

  • @EmoIssues Thank you.

  • hello theresa

i would love to say that i really enjoyed watching your tutorial and it is so easy i have now made two of these hats and add a little pom pom to the top and some ribbon around the edge

thank you so much for inspiring me to keep going

  • @ummimran1 I bet the little crochet hats with pom pom turned out cute.

  • These videos are great but you go so fast I'm not sure exactly what to do!

  • Thank you so much for your wonderful instructions and for sharing your talent. This is my second time making this baby beanie for another niece. I like that it is simple and easy to make!

  • @bellabearr I appreciate the comment, thank you.

  • I'm gonna crochet this right away! Do you have any other 3 ply yarn projects?

  • hola me encanta tu video claro no entiendo tu idioma ya que hablo español pero sigo tus manos maravillosas gracias por tu gran aporte

  • @LadyLunacy13 You are welcome. :)

  • im trying to make some vlankets and hats to donate to the hospital :)

  • My dear you are fantastic!!

This is the second time I've followed your instruction to make a hat. I'm making a few of them for my local hospital nursery, so I wanted them to come out just right --- and your video did the trick!

    Thank you so much!!!!! :)

  • @eleanorayoulateagain I appreciate the comment, thank you.

  • Awww you are totally awsome!!! I never had the confidence till I watched your video. With my mother-in-laws and your help so far I've done a baby blanket and hat! And feel addicted! :o) Thank you! Lmao you should make these on Dvds ... you and my mother-in-law are GREAT teachers!!!

  • @JLaene Thank you!

  • Do you have a video where you work much slower and explain what you're doing a bit better? I'm a beginner and am having the hardest time figuring this out!

  • nice video.

    but my looks nothing

    like a beanie.

and i would like it to

    be a little smaller.

    but either way nice video.

im not fully done with it but let's see how it turns out.

    :)

  • @sosweetlittlegirl99 The easiest way to make the cap smaller is to use a smaller crochet hook.

  • @sosweetlittlegirl99 Thank you.

  • This video is awesome! Thanks!

  • hey i was wondering how can i make this hat a little bigger than right now.. respond back to me please!

  • @kdx70 You can easily adjust the size of the cap. I have larger adult size caps posted if that is what you are looking for.

  • how can i make this just a bit smaller, like newborn size? I am TOTALLY new at all of this but I must learn!

  • I made this hat and it turned out so cute... Thank you

Also to the person who asked about making it into a preemie hat, I used a size -F- crochet needle and it made the hat small enough for a preemie.

  • Thank you for this video! I have finished a cute little beanie for my sister's baby! :)

  • @EmeraldEyesGypsy You are welcome.

  • how could I adjust this for a preemie baby?

  • You could use a smaller crochet hook. Another thought is to not work as many increase rounds.

  • thank you so much for this video, I'm new to crocheting and this video was easy to follow.

  • Thank you, I appreciate the comment.

  • Thank you so much for this video! I made our baby-to-be a new beanie in about 2 hours after watching your video. Great instructions & very clear direction.

  • Comment removed

  • can u please give a link for doing a sweater for my 1 yr old baby

  • it won't copy direction it stops rnd 1 10sc in lp

  • I'm sorry but I do not understand your comment.

  • I have done this 4 times!!! the 4th time I did EXACTLY what it said!!! I ahve been crocheting for 12 years!!! it keeps coming out flat!!!! I am using a bigger hook than you are does that matter?? I am even going back and counting all my rows and stitches!! I am so tierd of trying!!

  • Round 10 is the last increase round, so the cap should start to curl down not long after that. I used a size F crochet hook and 3 ply yarn as mentioned at Time Code: 22 seconds. If the hook and yarn are larger, the cap will fit a teen/adult head. The link for the written instructions is posted under the "More Info".

  • omg this is so easy . both this and half double crochet . but why when i do it the first ten sc after the join turn out to be a blob :( and then i cant even see the stitches all around :( any advice?

  • If you are a beginner, you may want to practice with something a little easier. I recommend that you keep practicing and it will make sense.

  • AWESOME!!! This video is SO helpful! I messed up a couple of times...but I know I can get it. (with your help of course!) Thanks again!! =)

  • I am sure you will get it. Keep practicing. Thank you.

  • Is it possible to do a continuous round with any hat pattern? Whenever I use a slipstitch I get a really ugly seam line. Is it possible to use this technique on patterns calling for slip stitches? How does it work with a double crochet? Do i have to chain some for height? I'm so confused.

  • Any pattern can be done in the continual round. Instead of joining, you work right in the top of the first stitch, starting the next round.

  • is it going to work if i have 50 st going into round 10?

  • teresa thank you ! i learn so much from you ! i love you ! thank you! kiss from ROMANIA !

  • I appreciate the comment, thank you. :)

  • OMG! your videos were soo helpful! :) i have a baby cousin and i learned how to knit and crotchet, but i didnt know how to do projects like that.

  • how do you know when you've at the beginning of the row? i know you put a marker, i just dont know where to put it, or whether to stitch before or after the marker.

  • If it is worked in a continual round, you don't have to worry about the exact first stitch. If you are working in rounds, you put the hook through the top of the first stitch that you joined for the previous round.

  • )Nevermind on that. I just saw that you have a video on shell stitch. =0))

  • Hi TJ, I am on round ten on this hat and I am doing fairly well so far. Can you let me know how I can put shell on the edge of this cap please? Thanks very much!

  • Are these videos in real-time or are they sped up a bit?

  • It will take longer than 8 minutes to make the hat. I will not show every round, when several rounds are single crochet.

  • With this pattern do you just continue in the round instead of joining at the end? I have been doing beanies just like this but joining at end of round and getting a really bad join line, if i do this one will that disapear? Love all your videos by the way :)

  • Yes, you can continue around. It is called a spiral or continual round. Even though you have a pattern for a hat that tells you to join, you can substitute the continual round technique instead. If you are changing colors, it will be necessary to even off your last stitch but you can still do a continual round even though you change colors.

  • I have tried this way and OMG what a huge difference, it turned out so neat. Thanks sooo much for this tute :D Your a gem!

  • I appreciate the comment. Happy crocheting! :)

  • First I have to say, this is my very first project. That being said, Im having a problem with my hat not staying 'flat' like yours does. Ive started over about 7 times because it starts turning in right away. Ive tried loosening my tension and it helps a little but its still turning in very early. Ive only made it to Rnd 4 or 5 before starting over. Any suggestions? Thank you!

  • Comment removed

  • I made it to Rnd 11! Yeah! I wasnt doing the SC right. I guess that would lead to problems, wouldnt it. :-P

  • Is your cap laying flatter now? Your cap curling up to early is an indication of missing increase rounds or stitches.

  • what adjustments would you do a tutorial for a newborn size?

  • It all depends on the size of the head. You can get larger and smaller caps from the same pattern by using a larger or smaller crochet hook, larger and smaller yarn.

  • I just made this and it came out really cute! I used cotton yarn and a little bigger of a needle but it still worked well! It was my first crochet project.

My husband like it so much that he wanted one of his own and I was wondering how I would increase the stitches (in which rounds and by how many) to make it an adult sized hat... ? Or do you have a similar video for an adult hat? Thanks!

  • I do have adult size beanies.

  • I just made this and it came out SO cute! Thank you so much!!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Thankyou for your videos! I have a bunch of old yarn that I needed to use up before I can justify buying new yarn, and you've made it so easy for me to learn how to make hats for my kids (3 and 5), without your videos I'd still just have "starts" of afghans, now I have finished caps. Thankyou Teresa:-)

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Very cute. I could never read the written instructions so this helps me sooo much! I want to crochet some hats to donate to the hospitals for preemies, so this is a great starting point for me. :)

  • You go too fast on it... I can't see the crocheting past your hand so I'm behind...

  • I agree with you. It's too fast and you fade away on the parts I'm trying to look at. Some people need to see exactly how you are doing it. I can keep clicking back and watch it again and again until I catch up, but when you fade away I can't see what you're doing and then I get totally lost. My mom showed me how to do this and it's actually very easy to do but this video isn't the best for beginners.

  • Thanks for the video. I am new to crochet and love your step by step instructions. I followed your directions, but as I finished the last row of single crochet of 60, I noticed that mine is not as much of a "cap." It's flatter than yours. It does have peak at the top. I'm wondering where my mistake was. Any ideas?

  • Maybe you crochet looser or you got some extra stitches in the round. You may not have a mistake at all. It could be your crochet style which will make your cap look different than the way I did mine. Yours does not need to look exactly like mine to still be correct. I hope that makes sense.

  • thanks You have helped me move along in my crocheting. I am a very visual learner. These videos have helped me so much. Thank you. Thank you

  • You are welcome. :)

  • hey, there i just want to tellyou that out of all the crotchet site on youtube. your demo are easier to understand and follow. i've notice you don't have much on baby blankets or blankets. anyways a co-worker of mine is having a baby. don't know if it's a girl or boy. i told her i would crotchet her a blanket, but i don't know what pattern is best since i have no idea what sex is the baby. so i have no idea. please show me something soon or try. =) she's due in april i think. thanks

  • Thank you. I do have a lot of pattern stitch swatches posted that can be made in to afghans. With each pattern stitch, there is a multiple. The multiple is provided so you can determine the size of afghan that you want to make.

  • I absolutely love your video tutorials. Thank you so much for making them available. You aren't just teaching people to crochet, you are potentially enriching people's lives, giving them skills, they can use to better their quality of life.

I am particularly interested in the Crochet Baby Beanie SC. Do you have these instructions in a text document, so I can refer to them while I'm working?

  • Ok. I found it. Thanks Again!

  • Thank you. I see you found them but I am going to mention this anyway. If a video tutorial has instructions, they are posted to the right of the video under the "More Info" link.

  • hi! ive seen this one and the video to sew on the ear flaps. but is there one on how to make the ear flaps? i cant find it if there is.

  • Hi...I just wanted to say thank you for your video on the beanies... I made one for my granddaughter and it came out beautiful!!!! I made another one with left over yarn and now my sons put in an order with their own colors....Thank you very much!!!!!!!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • you repilied really fast and thanks for your sharing. im gald i learned in school how to crochet and now im learning from you from your videos =)

  • Thank you. :)

  • thanks alot. i really wanted to make other kinds of thing instead of just scarves and blankets. ill tell all my friends who crochet to watch yr video

  • Thank you. I have about 220 crochet tutorials. You are welcome to share links to my videos.

  • thank you so much for your videos! i haven't crocheted in years, and could never start a hat until i watched your cloche video! within a week, i started and finished a cloche for my daughter, and a beanie for my husband! AWESOME! now i am trying to make a hat for my 14mos son. can i use this pattern with a larger hook and fatter yarn? or should i try the adult beanie pattern and not have as many increases? thanks again for the work you put into these videos! they are great!

  • You can use this pattern with a larger hook and larger yarn. I am not sure what the measurements will be but it should be within the size for a toddler head.

  • Thank you for your wonderful informative videos! I am a complete beginner and find the ay you explain it is really clear and easy to follow...I am making this beanie for a little baby who is ready to be born any day now! :)

  • You are welcome. :) Congratulations to the new parents.

  • Thanks a lot for the instructions. these are really helpful for beginners like me. I started making the beanie and a few rounds a after rnd 11 I see the edge of the cap is a c-shape instead of a straight line like yours. Am I doing something wrong?

  • You are welcome. It is possible that the yarn you are using might play a role in how your cap is shaping, if your stitch count is correct. You will have a different tension than I do. With those two choices you would not be doing anything wrong. You could be missing some stitches. If that is the case, you would need to see how many stitches you have in your round 11 on the hat and compare it to what the pattern has for round 11. Keep practicing and it will all make sense.

  • I completed the beanie! It looks very nice, thanks once again.

  • You are welcome. :)

  • I am SO glad I found your channel! Your videos are great! How exactly would you alter this pattern you have to fit a large adult head? My husband really wants me to make him one for Christmas. A bigger hook I assume, but also in what increments would you increase the rounds? Thank you so much!!! Ashley

  • I have an adult size beanie cap pattern.

  • thanx this is really helpful

  • You are welcome. :)

  • how do you cover or make it so that you can't tell there's a hole from the beginning?

  • You will always see a hole, You can pull the hole snug by securing the end of your yarn and running the yarn through the hole, pulling it to make it tight.

  • ok thank you ummmm how come when i try making it with different yarns but the same amount, one of my beanie is bigger than the other one. i made one too small and im not sure if it will actually fit a baby's head anymore hehe

  • I recently used the same crochet hook, yarn and yarn brand on a recent project but a different color. I made two of the same item. One turned out larger than the other. It is something that will happen on occasion. It is to be expected if you are using different yarn brands. If you pick a smaller yarn brand, it will be smaller.

  • I'm wondering if I'm using the wrong type of yarn, but it's turning out to look like a hat for a barbie doll. It doesn't lay flat. It just kinda looks like it's trying to turn into a long tube sock. :)

  • You may not be increasing correctly either.

  • When you finished the first row did you turn/flip it over to the other side?

    Does that make sense?

  • I just crochet it all on the same side.

  • i made this hat and love it. But i put it on my baby and i want it to cover his ears but if i go down any futher it will cover his eyes so how would i make a flap to cover his ear and tie it around his chin. Also so he does not pull it off. Thank you very much. Keep up the good work

  • You can do half of a circle for each ear to create an ear flap. The tie can be a chain with single crochet or foundation single crochet.

You should be able to roll the front up farther than the back to keep it out of his eyes.

  • how much more would you increase this pattern if you were to make a adult cap

  • The other thing you could do is look at the adult beanie cap tutorial and pattern that I already have made up.
