he actually scored 8 in this game, one hit the bar and crossed the line but the ref chalked it off (due to over-scoring), but well, it doesn't really matter does it ?
he was amazing player too, though dixie was luckier than drake - drake had to stop playing for 6 years due to war and he was at his best that time but dixie stopped playing in '39 so no war for him, so these 2 are players of the same calibre
Great player, I remember watching a video (I'm a Southampton ) with him sat in the director's box at the Dell saying "I'm from Winchester and worked for the gas works (where St. Mary's stadium is now)" and the best line was "once a saint, always a saint and I'll be a saint 'til the end of my days" classy player and I just wish our board showed as much loyalty to him as he did us.
Either Drake was the Arshavin of his time, or Villa had a really lousy defense. Probably a little of both. If only Arsenal had a player like that in the FA Cup Semi against Chelski.
@UncleMikeNJ no dude, drake scored like 140 goals in 180 appearances (give or take a few of either). Arshavin is good but no Ted Drake. It's unfortunate that there isn't very much video of this arsenal legend.
That's 28 goals a year, every year, for 5 years. Even if modern defenses and players from around the world could hold him to 20 a season, what would he be worth today? And he's the only man to manage a pre-Mad Russian Chelsea to a League title. Talk about a "special one!" Ted Drake, Arsenal's Number 9 -- Dirty Thirties style.
Ted Drake was my grandad's uncle. I think i meet him before he died in 1995 i was only 5 at the time so not 100% sure. I must ask my nan as my grandad passed away this year. She has signed potster etc they he used to send him for his birthday.

"Arsenal goes quickly ahead thanks to their centre forward, Drake, who has apparently decided to win the game on his own" lol

Ted Drake, as Ian Wright said when they met at the old stadium, is a LEGEND! One of Arsenal's true greats!
