  • wouuuuau fit like a cat!

  • The image of beauty <3

  • Rembrandt un cavallo, una storia, un mito che rimarrà per sempre nel mio cuore come esempio da seguire!

  • i thought Nicole Uphoff is the one who started all the rollkur....right?

  • nicole uphoff hat zugegeben rembrandt auch mit der rollkur trainiert zu haben.

soviel dazu, dass man das sofort erkennen kann, wenn jemand das anwendet.

  • @yubdailee ich mag die alte eh nicht ....

  • Nicole is not a gentel person. Watch her warming up by seaching Bill Woods dressage video: Aachen 95 Nicole.mpg

Many persons thinks that Edward Gal rides beautiful - the have just forgot that he warms up with roll kur. Same with Isabell.

When i look at an beautiful eqipage i also think about how the horse normaly is trained. Everybody can look pretty "on stage" - also Anky.

  • richtig schön locker im vergleich zu heute *herz*

Das Pferd mach sehr natürliche Bewegungen^^

  • da war dressur reiten noch schön

  • some riders get the horse to relax enough to bend the neck a bit- but riders who force the horse to do it are cruel- and the practice of cranking a horse's neck so tight is banned by equestrian associations- yet sadly the winners are the ones who use cruelty not the riders who are better becuase they naturally get the technique

  • The way Dressage should be:)

  • wow...

  • This damn near brings me to tears-so light,no "Heavy Hand" dependence;

as the commentator said "she sits there and talks to him, invisibly" and that was indeed an eloquent display:)

  • just an equitation comment... it's interesting how she appears rather hunched over most of the time. And how the small of her back absorbs a lot of motion. You don't often see that kind of lower back/abdominal floppiness in an upper level rider. I'm an equitation nazi but its interesting how some riders do seem to prove that function can sometimes precede form.

  • Frankly rodeosabuseanimals, your language on many other clips too, does the cause, no service whatsoever.

  • So, starting a facebook group, following the Blue Tongue video, and which now has nearly 4000 members, alerting the chairman of the British Horse Society who wrote to Princess Haya of the FEI, in protest, lecturing over the world, and decrying rollkur in front of an audience of around 1000 only two hours after AVG had been in the same arena, this is nothing? Being in touch personally with the FEI director of communications, who is keeping me updated about developments, nothing I suppose.

  • It is people like you who think you are helping, who water down the true efforts of others. I am a well known international classical, not competition dressage, trainer, so think I knew a little more about this than many.

  • many people say that she "trained" rollkur, but have you noticed how her Remi doesn't have the big "flashy knee action" that rollkur "trained" horses always have?

    I don't see it. I see a beautiful pair

  • She didnt train rollkur, at least, not in the accepted sense of it today, but she did initiate it, in that she rode Remmi deep, in order to stop him coming above the bit and spooking ( he was notoriously spooky), and this worked very well for him. I saw him in real life quite a few times. Sjef Janssen was often watching her in the warm up and it was without doubt, where he formulated his method.

  • I can see her using rollkur on her spooky horse, but I can't see her using it every day like some sick trainers do.

studies show that rollkur "trained" horses have spectacular knee action in the extensions, piaffe, and passage, which, this horse's movement is not so.

I just can't see Nicole using Rollkur to train her horses... because her horses just don't have the characteristics of a Rollker "trained" horse.

thanks for the info, though :D

  • Horses are also being bred now for more and more spectacular knee action, it is not just the rollkur that causes it.

  • Studies show that Rollkur does cause flashy knee action, and when I look at people who supposedly use Rollkur, their horses have flashy knee action (like Anky).

Plus, you said that horses are being bred for more spectacular knee action, but it wasn't so back in the day of Nicole and Remi.

  • Ya, that was kinda my point, they weren't bred for flashy knee action back then, no amount of rollkur would have made him look like Salinero. Having said that, I agree that I don't think she used rollkur as we know it to train.

I believe that rollkur might enhance knee action but for me these "studies" are flawed because they don't take into account the fact that a lot of the people who use rollkur also pick horses that have extravagant movement already.

  • my bad! sorry--didn't read what you said right.

yeah, I know where you're coming from. I completely agree with you and I'm sorry for the misunderstanding.

It bothers me how sometimes people will say that she "trained" Rollkur and their proof is pictures. Give me videos and give me real, solid evidence that she trained Rollkur and I will believe you in a heartbeat. lol, pictures don't quite cut it for me :)

  • Indeed! I think people don't understand either that there is a difference between riding a horse low and round and Rollkur. Oh well, what can you do?

  • yeah. We have to ride my horse low sometimes just to stretch him and strengthen his topline. there's a fine line between Rollkur and riding long and low!

  • these two were an absolute incredible team! and i am very sorry for nicole, that she didn´t find another "rembrand". i would have loved to watch her following carreer. but maybe rembrand was the ONE for her, the one you only find once in your life.

  • really now? so you know for a fact that this pair "brought rollkur to light"? I don't think so! if you actually LIVED with Nicole Uphoff and WATCHED her ride everyday and watched her use rollkur, then yes. I would believe you. but you didn't live with her so you have no clue about what she was really like! I think that there were times when Remi was better than Satchmo and Salenero. like the tempis! they were so free, strait, and balanced! and the piruettes were the best I've ever seen!

  • Nicole Uphoff was the first person to bring Rollkur to light, there is a book Richard Davison produced in the 90's showing Nicole riding Rembrandt in Rollkur, if you look for Nicole uphoff using Rollkur Method Pictures you will be shocked to find evidence there!

  • wow. pictures.

a couple pictures doesn't mean that she used Rollkur. unless nicole said that she used the Rollkur method, or somebody here lives with her to prove that she uses Rollkur everyday, I really don't want to bring a good rider down with that kind of madness

  • it is SO nice to see a horse whose face is in front of the vertical instead of behind it. i hope that i'll be able to ride like that some time in the future!

  • WOW... just WOW.

  • They are awesome. Yes, she was the first known top rider to ride deep, but she did it only to control his extreme shying. He is definitely not overbent or behind the bit at all in this test. His rhythmn and suppleness and adjustability is incredible.

  • he isnt tracking up

  • Why is it that all dressage riders seem to bounce everywhere, the head, loose legs, everything looks like they are flailing all over the place. Definitely not graceful on the riders part.

Love dressage and ride dressage don't want to look like them though.

  • Sstoval3 - not ALL dressage riders. I do agree that many of them ride like that though, the whole 'flailing' look isn't really my thing either.

  • No, not all dressage riders. Far from it. But more to the point, until you've ridden a horse with huge amounts of cadence and impulsion, you don't understand how much body control it takes to NOT bounce. IMHO it's incredible that she moves as little as she does.

  • I hope you are speaking of other dressage riders you have seen and not Nicole Uphoff and Rembrant. She is sitting So quiet, and he is just AMAZING! THIS is how dressage should be.

  • His tempi changes are so straight! And did you see that one transition at 3:55? He went straight from walk to piaffe, with what looked like no instruction at all. And am I the only one that thinks these tests were way harder than the ones Anky and Isabelle are riding now? Btw, I don't really see how this pair could have introduced the kind of rolkur we see today; maybe in their later years? D:P

  • atleast he is forward to the bit and slightly above it. He is also very forward and free. Maybe these two were the first in dressage to begin training deep, but I highly doubt it would be to the same extent it is used today, you can see the evidence of that in his movement and head set alone

  • This ride in no way is similar to the ride of Klimke and his horse in 1984..sigh.

  • deep isnt the same a s rollkur, he is loose, forward and not over tense in the neck in his extensions, unlike few we can name today, as for the piaffe, look at his conformation.

  • Ummmm, you guys? It was Nichol and Rembrandt who were the *first* proponents of hyperflexion: he was a serious spooker and they trained him very deep. Like those who do it today, you will see no lowering of the hindquarters in Remi's piaffe. He's not over his back.

  • I'm glad from reading these comments I'm not the only one that thinks dressage these days is quite ridiculous compared to the days of Uphoff and Rembrandt and Klimke and Ahlerich. The horses at this years Olympics looked crazy, barely contained and all flash, no substance. Shame.

  • beautiful, close to perfection. possibly one of the best dressage performances ever. every thing about this horse looks so light!

  • Beautiful to see proper dressage - no flashy cruel rolkur barbarism.....I think it's so important for people who know the difference to keep explaining PROPER Classical dressge to those who think the modern stuff is somehow ok....intelligent commentary on this too :)

  • Comment removed

  • Haha, Nicole was the pioneer of your so-called 'rolkur barbarism'. if there is one, you obviously don't see the difference between proper classical training and rolkur.

  • This is so beautiful, his relaxed attitude, his collection in the transition from extended trot back to passage, beautiful. I prefer this above Anky and her friends.

  • This is beautiful. I hardly know what I'm watching but I can tell the difference in freedom of movement and willingness in this horse from newer videos of rollkur-trained horses. He's wonderful.

  • I agree with you Germaination, I love the freedome in his head and neck after seeing the dreaded rolkur of today.

  • perhaps he is not so elevated and expressive coz he wasn't trained with his nose buried in his chest muscles all the while being booted in the guts by his not-so-sensitive rider leaving him no where to go but up and down with his front legs while his back legs are incapable of following through...that extended trot out of the passage at around 1.30 was just breathtaking. you never see so much power in a dressage horse now

  • Yeah man..the way dressage used to be..he looks so happy and light, possibly not the most talented horse naturally but he is so beautifully schooled. AND NO BROKEN NECK LINE FROM BEING RIDDEN TRYING TO BITE HIS CHEST!! SHOCK HORROR!! Those poor horses who are out there doing this today...and here is such a beautiful example of how dressage should be

  • @Germaination do you n´know that uphoff also rollkured in training?

  • @kriddsibon In fact, I would direct you to her comment on the 3rd page of the comment section-quite frankly I would believe her over most anyone else.

    Yourself included.

  • @Germaination did you know that uphoff also rollkured in training?

  • @kriddsibon You ought to ask enlighteneduk about that.

It wasn't rk/ldr the way it is today but it was seemingly where Sjef got his idea for that particular "system".

Not rk/ldr ridden for prolonged periods or to such extremes.

Anyway, that comment is from two years ago. lol. I know now she used a similar type of riding but certainly nothing like we get to see now.

  • i just had to comment on this. now THAT is classical dressage! i loved the extended canter. he was like, va voooom!!! lol

  • This is what dressage SHOULD look like. Look at the lightness and the brilliant, expressive movement! The quietness of the rider, and the correct frame of the horse! Not overbent or flailing away with its front legs. Someone should strap Yanky Anky down and make her watch this video a hundred times.

  • before anyone takes this post seriously, check out this guys videos if you want a good laugh. Its like someone with a basic knowledge of 1st grade math critisising someone doing triginometry

  • i waz referring to jaccko14 with this comment.

  • angie - It had nothing to do with my riding you twit! I was comparing between anky and nicole. Since JDKvideos critisized Anky and Salinero i critisized this women. So get your facts straight before you go jabbering on about bullshit.

  • Yes, Jaccko, correct dressage riding IS very boring to those people who are only interested in Big Flashy Knee Action.

I've said it before - if that's what you're interested in, get into saddleseat and spare your dressage horse the torture.

  • Face in front of the vertical most of the time, ears forward, and tail soft... we NEVER see this in the dressage arena today. Nice reminder of dressage before rolkur.

  • AMAZING pirouette at 6:28. Rembrandt looks as though he only touches the ground because Nicole asks him to - as if his natural state is floating.

I never get tired of watching this pair.

  • Anyone remember (or better yet, HAVE) the Rolex commercial featuring Nicole and Remy?

"Another sparkling performance, from Nicole Uphoff... and Rolex"

Would LOVE to see it again!

  • I reviewed my partial clip of it, and it was definitely of this ride. I hope perhaps someone will have it!

  • I'm really happy to see this video of Remy and Nicole...they are always in my dreams.. thanks a lot for share this video. If somebody has some videos of them,please...let us dream again....

  • This was really the best horse i have ever seen - it was all so natural due to Nicole as the best rider ever. Thank you really for uploading this video. I would like to see more of Remmi and Nicole... If someone has this films - dont wait and post them so that the world can see and dream...

  • Nicole is the best in the world...the best rider and a nice girl...after her divorce I will be the next husband of her...

  • Such a joy to watch that amazing Rembrandt again. Thank you for posting this film!

  • i was ther in person. best day of my life

  • best we Germans ever had.

  • Love it...awesomely beautiful pair!

  • The grace and ease of Rembrandt remain unrivalled up to today. If anyone was asked to define the perfect horse, name Rembrandt. Unbelievable. Makes my heart sing.
