Even though this series only lasted 6 episodes, it had more humor than most shows can muster in 3 to 4 seasons. . . And unlike Hollywood, they weren't even trying that hard.
Let's face it- The balls to the wall horror that is Garth Marenghi's Darkplace was far beyond the understanding of the current feeble minded society. Too much, too soon. Mankind just wasn't ready for it.

LOL! so they couldnt even film it they had to use polaroids! so lame! this show is sooooooo cheap! goddamn british cant write drama at all. the acting is lame so r the special FX. learn from us americans britain.... this is not good drama
stay tuned for the next episode about a mutated broccoli penis on the loose. lol, i can see it now miracle grow and a donut on the top of a crispy cream. they genetically engineer a japanese beetle to eat it and it kills everyone.
I've just watched all 6 episodes in two days and I had forgotten how brilliant and underrated it is, from a time when Channel 4 made good tv programmes. Sadly not anymore.
this cod have been big 5 sesons esoly it makes me wanu cry this ius one of the best serys ive ever had the plesher of waching i wonder of garth mrendys still alive i rely want to meet this man
to call american humour 'lame' is being a little narrow minded. Some of the most horrific, unfunny comedy shows I've seen are british. Think 'my family', or 'two pints of lager'. Nonetheless, when british humour is given creative freedom, it can become a classic show. Like the office, or this. oh, and only having a short run can add to the wonder of a show.
Wow, it's to hear that! There have been great, classy and intelligent American comedy shows- the problem is that they have all been canceled before anyone got to see them. Arrested Development is the worst recent example I can think of right off the top of my head.
of course it would be amazing, however it's been, what, over 25 years since they first did the show? And who would play Liz (R.I.P.) and also, I hear that Dean Learner has long since sold the garage in which they filmed the original series.
It's so easy to create a one-note parody of something. And an American series or even another series might actually push it to the point where it did just become lifeless.
As it is, you can tell they still wanted to make something good. And succeeded.

How so? British TV hasn't the resources to give this brilliant concept the time and money it deserves, so I say we let our trans-Atlantic friends take a crack at it.
America copies all these once off classic shows, gives them far too much exposure, adds their lame sense of humour to it, and ruins the entire franchize.
And then Australia being America's bitch will probably make our own version as well.
The reason Darkplace is so awesome is because there's only 6 classic episodes, which leaves you wanting more. If you get more you'll get bored of it and stop watching.
Calling the American SOH "lame" is childish and erroneous. Yes, some of their comedy shows are terrifically unfunny, but so are many British ones - and when an American show is funny, it's completely hilarious.
And, dude, if all shows that last more than 6 half-hour episodes bore you then maybe you should get checked out for ADD.
When an American show is funny, it's funny. When it's hilarious, it's hilarious ;)
America copies all these classic foreign TV shows, adds their sense of humour to it and just ruins the entire thing. If something is funny in a British version, why not just enjoy the British version?
And the second season to most shows like this is usually a complete fail. The magic would have gone and the jokes would sound the same, there would be a very slim chance of a second season doing well.
google 'savedarkplace' and click on first result - it takes 30 secs to sign the petition. i just did it. they only have 8000 signatures - and yet look at how many people have seen this video alone!!
Anyone who didn't cry during that is a robot...and having said that, I know for a fact that a robot would rather rust than to no cry at that episode. And robots don't have hearts. Or tear ducts for that matter. So if you didn't shed a tear (even if it's from your eyes watering because u just watched all 6 episodes in a row in the dark), what is wrong with you? MacGyver cried.
NO. Garth Marenghi (the character) was first seen in the Garth Marenghi's Fright Knight stageshow in 2000. Garth Marenghi's Darkplace was first aired in 2004. It might help if you [a] lrn2read and [b] don't rely solely on wiki as it's far from infallable at the best of times (my info IS from wiki but I checked it on other sites to make sure).
Very sad. Fact is only a few people can appreciate the brilliant silliness of these shows, and we're just not numerous enough to keep these shows going.

I have NEVER felt the need to comment on youtube before now, but the comment about an 'american version' COMPELLED me to.
a 'yank twist' would just ruin it.. take a look at the office... butchered!
america has their own style which works great on their shows.. but this so obviously british through and through,
and a second series would spoil the magic of this.. it'san awesome one off. and should stay that way.
now i will go back to non-commentary youtube viewing.
