Mainstream is all about money now and it's been a brainwashing process that got us this far. It's gotten so bad that people have forgotten what real talent is, and the worst part is that few mainstream musicians can actually sing. The music sounds generic and the composition is boring; the lyrics are even worse. Autotuning is being ENCOURAGED too, type in I Am T-Pain Microphone. Real music still exists everywhere, you just have to find it. You probably have a band close to you with real talent.
I have to dig for music id listen to now, i grew up in the 90s and theres so much effort on sex in modern music videos they forget about the music. Every 10 years music changes and/or evolves. For example, The 60's style of music was Jazz, the 70's was Disco, the 80's was Punk Rock, the 90's Rock N Roll, and (since we're in 2011) from 2000 - 2010 was mostly a mix of Pop/Rock and R&B. Time makes things evolve as in we get bored of something and we want to try something new.

More like part of the grundge movement of the earlly 90's and it was all over by 1994.There was a lot of pop music in the 90s (Ace of Base, Jin Blossoms, Cranbeerries, Oasis, Aerosmith, Backstreet Boyes, Bryan Adams, Savage garden, 3 Doors Down...and the list goes on)

I agree completely that mainstream isn't really as good as it used to be, but if you think about it. Mainstream is pop/rap now, people who like rock like you and me obviously aren't going to like it.
So yeah you can say current mainstream is garbage but it's a different genre of music entirely. Can't really compare with the old.

I hate today's mainstream music, but I don't like the old mainstream either. I listen to music from today's unknown bands who don't go by the mainstream.
Mostly indie music.
But I want to say that you can't say "this music is trash"... You can say "In MY OPINION it's trash" but that depends on the person who says that.
For example I hate metal music... but still I don't say this music is sh**. I just don't like it....
By the way: people, who don't like a song, don't have to listen to it! ;)

The music on the video wasn't really mainstream. More like part of the grundge movement of the earlly 90's and it was all over by 1994.There was a lot of pop music in the 90s (Ace of Base, Jin Blossoms, Cranbeerries, Oasis, Aerosmith, Backstreet Boyes, Bryan Adams, Savage garden, 3 Doors Down...and the list goes on)

@ Vinniekl---- techno is actually coming back in a lot of post hardcore bands... the music scene nowadays is starting to push towards hardcore/ post modern hardcore music suck as Woe, is Me, Life on Repeat, Sleeping With Sirens, A Day's Past, Our Last Night, We Came as Romans, and Of Machines, and Attack Attack, and Asking Alexandria ... but a lot of people don't look into the actual talent those bands bring to music. They all take mainstream songs and make them 20 times better. literally

Thats true mainstream music was so much better back in the day but u forgot to include Metallica and Pantera in the video. Metallica and Pantera both had albums that hit number one on the billboard top 200 (Black Album and Far Beyond Driven) so they were mainstream. That really shows that mainstream music was so much better in the 90s. I'd much rather see pantera or metallica playing concerts on mtv than justin bieber or jonas brothers.
