The lesson here SHOULD have been, that there's much more to a community and industry than just profits. The eventual social costs resulting from job losses and decline of tax revenue in loss of property values, declining standard of living, welfare, mental and physical health, substance abuse, crime, social violence, juvenile delinquency are far greater than the costs would have been in assessing a protective tariff and giving loan gurantees for worker-owned business. Predatory capitalism sucks.
