The Genesis is a turkey, power is not all a car is about, the Genesis might be more powerfull and cheaper. But the Mercedes is safer, refined, comfortable, well built, very well equiped, more economical and more reliable.
MB is just a brand name, if you think you project a better image of yourself when you drive an MB then that's what you should get. But Hyundai is all about value for money and the genesis not a cheap copy, it did win the 2009 North American car of the year and the engine made it to the wards best engines.

Considering the price difference alone, I think MB has a lot of explaining to do. Sure, everyone might like to rag on the Hyundai but let's face it; Benz's reliability sucks ass for such an expensive car company, whereas "shitty" Hyundai is ranking close to the top for reliability. Hell, even the difference in warranty coverage says a lot. 10 yrs/100k miles for the Hyundai, 4 yrs/50k miles for the Benz. Oh well, I guess if you could afford a new Benz you could afford to keep fixing it. xD
Fistly you can not compare a Mercedes Benz worlds best car with a pice of crap Hyundai. The E-class is made with all the safty fitures plus more just like the reinforced steel Mercedes puts in the cars the quality of the engine itself is worth more than the hyundai. Do your research on Mercedes Benz quality engines. Those engines are so perfectly made that even some airplanes and small jets use their technology. Acura, Infinity, Lexus and Hyundai are all imitators. :)

However, for these two cars Hyundai clearly seems to be a better car in terms of the performance, quality, price and the looks. except the difference is that for 51k you can buy an equus, which is comparable to an s class, or a car 20k more. A genesis, top of the line, is only 47k, still less then this MB with more for your dollar.

The equis is nice! Genesis eh not so much. The E class will handle better, have better technology, be safer etc.. Your paying for egineering and 100 years of world class cars. The name too of course. The E350 is a bit under powered but 0-60 in 6.5 secs is not bad. Look at the interiors of the two cars the E class is much nicer. Take these cars on a road course and I am sure the E will do better too. Genesis is a great car for the price though!

HMMMM...... almost 200 extra horsepower, yet having same MPG!? Like you said, we g2 "compare economy, refinement, quality, looks and reliability." Dam, the Genesis is undoubtedly come out on top!
@danoconnell427 The germans, in the last decade, have really let go of the top position of oustanding car manufactures to everyone! Hyundai has improved by leaps and bounds and will cont to do so over the next 10 years. Although the MB body steel of heavier and stronger and the hyundai body is thinner the hyundai still give more BANG for your buck!

And those leather were not comfortable. The dash was hard as a rock, AND IT WAS 47GRAND NO OPTION 2010 VER.
Shouldn't Genesis compared to Acura TL/Infiniti G35/Lexus ES/Chrysler 300 instead of Merecedes E class? I've seen MotorTrend's video comparing Bentley Mulsanne and Hyundai Equus. I know Hyundai is trying to show that they can produce luxury cars with much affordable cost, but the comparison isn't doesn't seem right. Equus should be compared to Lexus LS, Bentley vs RR Ghost, E Class vs A6 vs BMW 5 series. I think this is how comparison should be done, think about the price tag
I've sat in a few luxury cars in my life, and I can say that Hyundai definitely feels like a luxury car. It's interior is right on par with some of the best that Merc and Lexus has to offer. Merc has the soul, but I'd never buy one. Lexus has no soul and feels a bit numb. I haven't quite made up my mind about these Hyundai's. The turbo sonata and the new Equus make me scratch my head.
I honestly wouldnt compare a Hyundai with a Merc, not because Merc is better or not, but because they are not in the same league. Mercedes is a Premium Brand, Hyundai is a regular brand, like Toyota, Nissan or VW.
The Hyundai Genesis can be compared with models like the Toyota Avalon, Honda Legend, a Buick perhaps, or a VW, because they are in the same market segment.
I must say the Genesis is a great car for the price, nothing inside that car is cheap, I can tell, and it rides very well.

I do believe Hyundai should not present the Genesis Sedan as a competitor for the real Luxury cars in the market : Europeans premium brands, because Lexus and Infinity are wannabes.
Mercedes E350's 3.5L V6 is super smooth and refined, but it just isnt powerful enough nor fuel efficient as the Hyundai Genesis 3.8 V6. Not to mention the bonus of value and standard features you get on the Genesis vs. the E350. Id probably rank Genesis 3.8 > E350.
Now, E550 vs. Genesis 4.6 is a totally different story. Genesis 4.6 has a lot of max hp output, but somehow isnt much faster than the 3.8 and has a lot less low end torque than the E550's V8.
My opinion is that Hyundai has been blatantly copying designs since they hit US shores. They sell cars because they load them with gadgets, make their cars look like something more expensive and sell them grossly lower then the competition.
They're like driving in a fake rolex. There is Nothing original about them. I'll stick to my American and European cars. At least the marques I drive have a design team with talent.
It is going to be all up to the consummers who may actually buy these cars. So far so good. Customer satisfaction is 5*****. For street racers toy, GC is going to be the new grand and for people who wants to buy entry lvl luxury, they will buy Genesis Sedan. C class and 3 series is no way near this car. How do I know? Everytime I take my S class for a service, I get a C class loaner (and I do not like that car a bit. I rather drive an Accord).
I had to laugh when I saw the title... It's not only foolish comparing a Hyundai to the Merc, it's ridiculous... Of course the Merc costs more... You don't pay merely for the horsepower, you pay for the quality of the engineering, the style (Hyundai still looks as usual as any other Hyundais you see on the road everyday), you pay for the COMFORT, you pay for all the SAFETY FEATURES you will only see in a Hyundai 10 years later...
I'm not a hater. I really think Hyundai is making a great job on their cars. Genesis is one hell of a car period. But you really can't put a Merc and a Hyundai together. German cars are the top of engineering. Hyundai is learning with them how to make excellent cars. But they are, still, master and pupil. Unless Korea start to build new technology, they will be forever one step behind the Germans. Germans invented modern cars, they have 124 years of expertise, and it can't be put aside.

the fact is that my bimmer has so much more value for my dollar then a Hyundai could ever have. Hyundai uses generation old tech to boost reliability reports where as German cars are using state of the art tech in their cars and I'm sorry but when a car is thousands of dollars less than another car it's comparing itself with its because it's worth less for a thousand reasons.

I doubt you have ever driven or rode in the mercedes, its not just all brute horse power. Take a ride in the E350 and it will be apparent. The genesis is great value but its still not as good in the details as cars that cost 20,000 more. Then again thats pretty reasonable.
@MeInTheNewWorld : My personal opinion based on my experience is different. My new Genesis is more quiet, better stereo, get more attention than my S class. I used to own both of them.
I think only a person who doesnt know a lot about cars and cant appreciate real quality can say that Genesis is as good as E-class...price doesnt matter. The quality / design / feel / ergonomy of these two cars cannot be compared. Just because genesis costs less than e-class doesnt make it as good. You wont say that a piece of ordinary glass is as good as a diamond of same shape and size just because the class is 10 times cheaper.
build quality, technology, research and development and presence, these are the elements that make a benz a benz. Hyundai doesn't have any of that. They are for people who want to think they have a benz. Not everyone can afford a benz, thats why you should bye a ford or gm or hyundai if u cant afford a benz. The best part about the car is the interior. Very good quality of materials and interior assembly. It may not be as solid as an E-class, but you have to remember, its a lot less than the e-class and it offers about the same amount of tech features and luxuries.
For 40 grand, the genesis is unbeatable as a luxury car.

But when you compare it to the german brands, then remember build quality is also a luxury. Also no company spends as much money on developing cars as much as the germans. And the interior is no where near as good as its competitors such as the e class and s class to which Hyundai are always comparing themselves too.

Sit inside the new audi a6 or bmw 5 series...actually, sit inside audi a4 and you'll already see the diference. Genesis simply doesnt feel like a quality product, it might have leather all over the dash and wood inside, but it just doesnt feel expensive when you sit inside. Audi A4 with 3.2 engine costs same, offers same luxury, and feels infinitely more premium and expensive.
@derbigpr500 Its kinda funny you'd mention that. I own a 2008 A4 2.0T and payed around 48K CND for it. My first impression was good and the materials are great. I can say they ARE better than the genesis, but the interior isn't as nicely designed. My first impression of the Genesis was "look! a baby S-class!"
Having test drove the genesis a couple times I can say that, its bigger, faster and offers more bang for your buck than an A4. My A4 doesn't feel "infinitely more premium" than a genesis.

Why hating on hyundai? It's like saying they plagiarized when they only paraphrased. They are just doing business like everyone else in the business. I've been in bmw's and in a couple other luxury vehicles, and they're not all that fancy shmancy as I grew up with them. Cars are cars, and honestly, mb and them are asking for money because of their history, nothing more.

Considering the price difference alone, I think MB has a lot of explaining to do. Sure, everyone might like to rag on the Hyundai but let's face it; Benz's reliability sucks ass for such an expensive car company, whereas "shitty" Hyundai is ranking close to the top for reliability. Hell, even the difference in warranty coverage says a lot. 10 yrs/100k miles for the Hyundai, 4 yrs/50k miles for the Benz. Oh well, I guess if you could afford a new Benz you could afford to keep fixing it. xD

Fistly you can not compare a Mercedes Benz worlds best car with a pice of crap Hyundai. The E-class is made with all the safty fitures plus more just like the reinforced steel Mercedes puts in the cars the quality of the engine itself is worth more than the hyundai. Do your research on Mercedes Benz quality engines. Those engines are so perfectly made that even some airplanes and small jets use their technology. Acura, Infinity, Lexus and Hyundai are all imitators. :)

The equis is nice! Genesis eh not so much. The E class will handle better, have better technology, be safer etc.. Your paying for egineering and 100 years of world class cars. The name too of course. The E350 is a bit under powered but 0-60 in 6.5 secs is not bad. Look at the interiors of the two cars the E class is much nicer. Take these cars on a road course and I am sure the E will do better too. Genesis is a great car for the price though!

@danoconnell427 I'm sorry, but Genesis is cheaper by FAR, and Genesis has much better performance as well as its gas mileage. $51K E350 264 hp 17/24 mpg VS $51K 5.0 Genesis R-spec 429 hp 16/25 mpg. HMMMM...... almost 200 extra horsepower, yet having same MPG!? Like you said, we g2 "compare economy, refinement, quality, looks and reliability." Dam, the Genesis is undoubtedly come out on top!

Hyundai has improved by leaps and bounds and will cont to do so over the next 10 years. I've seen NO FEATURE MB SUV and we had it as a loan car because of my dad's porsche, and it was NOT fun. Crappy set up on the dash, freggin d pads in this era???? took forever to switch through. And those leather were not comfortable. The dash was hard as a rock, AND IT WAS 47GRAND NO OPTION 2010 VER.

Shouldn't Genesis compared to Acura TL/Infiniti G35/Lexus ES/Chrysler 300 instead of Merecedes E class? I've seen MotorTrend's video comparing Bentley Mulsanne and Hyundai Equus. I know Hyundai is trying to show that they can produce luxury cars with much affordable cost, but the comparison isn't doesn't seem right. Equus should be compared to Lexus LS, Bentley vs RR Ghost, E Class vs A6 vs BMW 5 series. I think this is how comparison should be done, think about the price tag

I've sat in a few luxury cars in my life, and I can say that Hyundai definitely feels like a luxury car. It's interior is right on par with some of the best that Merc and Lexus has to offer. Merc has the soul, but I'd never buy one. Lexus has no soul and feels a bit numb. I haven't quite made up my mind about these Hyundai's. The turbo sonata and the new Equus make me scratch my head.

I honestly wouldnt compare a Hyundai with a Merc, not because Merc is better or not, but because they are not in the same league. Mercedes is a Premium Brand, Hyundai is a regular brand, like Toyota, Nissan or VW.
The Hyundai Genesis can be compared with models like the Toyota Avalon, Honda Legend, a Buick perhaps, or a VW, because they are in the same market segment.
I must say the Genesis is a great car for the price, nothing inside that car is cheap, I can tell, and it rides very well.

@SMB67T It is just an unfair match. The same apply when people wants to compare a Corvette ZR1 with a Lambo SV. The ZR1 could be good looking, powerful and fast, but it just cannot win Lambo... The refinement combined with the sportiness and performance in a Lambo is superior.
I do believe Hyundai should not present the Genesis Sedan as a competitor for the real Luxury cars in the market : Europeans premium brands, because Lexus and Infinity are wannabes.

Mercedes E350's 3.5L V6 is super smooth and refined, but it just isnt powerful enough nor fuel efficient as the Hyundai Genesis 3.8 V6. Not to mention the bonus of value and standard features you get on the Genesis vs. the E350. Id probably rank Genesis 3.8 > E350.
Now, E550 vs. Genesis 4.6 is a totally different story. Genesis 4.6 has a lot of max hp output, but somehow isnt much faster than the 3.8 and has a lot less low end torque than the E550's V8.

My opinion is that Hyundai has been blatantly copying designs since they hit US shores. They sell cars because they load them with gadgets, make their cars look like something more expensive and sell them grossly lower then the competition.
They're like driving in a fake rolex. There is Nothing original about them. I'll stick to my American and European cars. At least the marques I drive have a design team with talent.

It is going to be all up to the consummers who may actually buy these cars. So far so good. Customer satisfaction is 5*****. For street racers toy, GC is going to be the new grand and for people who wants to buy entry lvl luxury, they will buy Genesis Sedan. C class and 3 series is no way near this car. How do I know? Everytime I take my S class for a service, I get a C class loaner (and I do not like that car a bit. I rather drive an Accord).

I'm not a hater. I really think Hyundai is making a great job on their cars. Genesis is one hell of a car period. But you really can't put a Merc and a Hyundai together. German cars are the top of engineering. Hyundai is learning with them how to make excellent cars. But they are, still, master and pupil. Unless Korea start to build new technology, they will be forever one step behind the Germans. Germans invented modern cars, they have 124 years of expertise, and it can't be put aside.

the fact is that my bimmer has so much more value for my dollar then a Hyundai could ever have. Hyundai uses generation old tech to boost reliability reports where as German cars are using state of the art tech in their cars and I'm sorry but when a car is thousands of dollars less than another car it's comparing itself with its because it's worth less for a thousand reasons.

I doubt you have ever driven or rode in the mercedes, its not just all brute horse power. Take a ride in the E350 and it will be apparent. The genesis is great value but its still not as good in the details as cars that cost 20,000 more. Then again thats pretty reasonable.

@MeInTheNewWorld : My personal opinion based on my experience is different. My new Genesis is more quiet, better stereo, get more attention than my S class. I used to own both of them.

I think only a person who doesnt know a lot about cars and cant appreciate real quality can say that Genesis is as good as E-class...price doesnt matter. The quality / design / feel / ergonomy of these two cars cannot be compared. Just because genesis costs less than e-class doesnt make it as good. You wont say that a piece of ordinary glass is as good as a diamond of same shape and size just because the class is 10 times cheaper.

build quality, technology, research and development and presence, these are the elements that make a benz a benz. Hyundai doesn't have any of that. They are for people who want to think they have a benz. Not everyone can afford a benz, thats why you should bye a ford or gm or hyundai if u cant afford a benz. Stop complaining, You will never see presidents, ambassadors or any important person ride around in a hyundai.

@bluestreak117 The Hyndau genesis HAS build quality and technology. And I'm sure Hyundai spent a long time making the Genesis the amazing car it is.
It didn't win car of the year in the U.S AND Canada for no reason.
And FYI the Genesis sedan should go up against a C-class because of its price. But if you do that, than you'll see just how much better and how much more the Genesis offers over a C-class.

@EliteSlayer542 Actually, it did win car of year for no reason. It only won because it is cheap luxury. If want to have proper luxury, which the c class is not built for, then compare it to other luxury cars like s class, e class. These cars have real good build quality and a sense of solidity to them. Do hyundai build door hinges that can support a 200lbs man? no. Mercedes do.

@bluestreak117 Cheap luxury? So the lexus GS is also cheap luxury? Nothing is cheap when the staring price is 40 grand. Have you even been in a Genesis?
The best part about the car is the interior. Very good quality of materials and interior assembly. It may not be as solid as an E-class, but you have to remember, its a lot less than the e-class and it offers about the same amount of tech features and luxuries.
For 40 grand, the genesis is unbeatable as a luxury car.

@EliteSlayer542 I have been in a genesis and i do think it is very nice. But i have been in a lot of german cars like s class and e class. The genesis is good for the price. But when you compare it to the german brands, then remember build quality is also a luxury. Also no company spends as much money on developing cars as much as the germans. And the interior is no where near as good as its competitors such as the e class and s class to which Hyundai are always comparing themselves too.

@EliteSlayer542 No its not unbeatable because its not even a real luxury car. Quality materials? Really? Sit inside the new audi a6 or bmw 5 series...actually, sit inside audi a4 and you'll already see the diference. Genesis simply doesnt feel like a quality product, it might have leather all over the dash and wood inside, but it just doesnt feel expensive when you sit inside. Audi A4 with 3.2 engine costs same, offers same luxury, and feels infinitely more premium and expensive.

@derbigpr500 Its kinda funny you'd mention that. I own a 2008 A4 2.0T and payed around 48K CND for it. My first impression was good and the materials are great. I can say they ARE better than the genesis, but the interior isn't as nicely designed. My first impression of the Genesis was "look! a baby S-class!"
Having test drove the genesis a couple times I can say that, its bigger, faster and offers more bang for your buck than an A4. My A4 doesn't feel "infinitely more premium" than a genesis.

@EliteSlayer542 That's not a good thing, that you thought it was a "baby S-class." That shows that Hyundai still lacks the ability to make a nice car, that doesn't look like it's competition. One other review seemed to praise that nobody could name the Equus. Brand recognition is a powerful tool, and when your car lacks that... people will continue to pay the premium for a badged "inferior" BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc. Advertisers die for brand recognition.

Hyundai spent half a billion and 10 years developing the Genesis...so please STFU if u don't know a dam thing about Hyundai. @MT323able Dude, Genesis is not even a shadow of any Mercedes, BMW, Audi or Lexus. If you cant understand that, then there are 3 possibilities. 1. You understand it, but dont want to admit it because you're a fanboy. 2. You dont know what real quality is. 3. You're mentally ill.
A person who knows something about cars can feel the real quality in about 5 seconds after sitting inside the car and after closing the doors. Genesis feels cheap, its got ugly interior, no quality details...

There are atleast 15 others car models made in europe (other than bmw, mercedes, audi) that offer more than genesis does without being as expensive.
I guess everything looks expensive if you mostly sit inside pieces of crap like buick, lincoln, chevrolet, dodge and similar cars.
