The good thing is that he was able to sing it smoothly, hit all the notes, & do it w/ an operatic resonance. The not so good thing is that he spreads his vowels - leading to an upper middle (passagio) sounding blatty & almost musical theater like because his vowels become very American ("eh" becoming "ae" which doesn't exist. He also employs singing "A" where "o" is meant to be up top, which is the opposite of "bel canto." He is smart enough to know this, so he should fix it. He is talented.
@clintoginaire Since this was posted almost 3 yrs ago, you're a little late to the party. Perhaps you should check out Alfie currently. (Maybe "Alfie Boe warbles a bit". He sings Nessun Dorma to karaoke in Matt Lucas' kitchen. Yes, in a kitchen! Stunning.)
Oh, and as a Yank, I find your "vowels become very American ("eh" becoming "ae" which doesn't exist," a tad annoying. How dare we have a different accent!
@hecate235 given that the song is in Italian you Americans may have as many different accents as you want, he should stil sing in the original Italian accent. (i am neither American nor British)
Wow. Just... WOW. I never thought a performance could come anywhere close to Domingo/Carreras/Pavarotti singing this as a trio, but WOW. Alfie Boe is a genuinely stunning tenor, and even the shrieky soprano incapable of blending in the chorus cannot detract from my absolute awe!
From the moment I first heard him sing, I thought "I need to hear him sing Nessun Dorma"- thank you SO much for uploading this!
I think much credit should be given to this fine young singer, Lets give him 10 years and see what happens. After all is said and done, I hope he is not a transient voice. He has too much talent to settle for that. But lets see what he makes of himself. I hope for all the best for this superbly talenlted voice.
OMG, I almost did't recognize (sry if i wrote it wrong) him without the beard! :O hi is so much more handsome (and sexier) with it =) GROW IT BACK AND LET IT STAY ON ALFIE! :p
Notice how the audience is talking at the beginning and by the two minute mark Alfie has the audience totally with him. That is a mark of a great performance. The applause at the end was well-deserved. Bravo Alfie. Well done!
@koalasarah Me myself personally, I like Domingo's phrasing a tad better. Pavarotti is more powerful but Boe certainly is a more than worthy successor to their position as worlds best tenors.
Bravo a cantare pronuncia terribile...

Are you kidding was there like 2 people in the audience? If not how snobby can / rude can you get? He's amazing.

Wouldn't it be great if Alfie Boe and Russell Watson could get together and sing as the "Lancashire Tenors".

@TRT1940. It is an idea. But they might get confused with the Lancashire Hotpots.

Wow. The chorus is terrible, but Alfie does a great job with this very difficult aria.

I too like Placido Domingo, but Boe was wonderful in Les Miserables -
I saw the 25th anniversary progam - and of course Nessun Dorma is from one of my favorite operas - I am an opera fan -

he's good. no doubt about that... but i think pavarotti has a tone and warmth on high notes such as in Nessun Dorma that is not rivaled.

Listen to Franco Corelli's version. If Pav's version is likened to a shotgun, Corelli's version is a rocket launcher.

Only thing dissapointing about this is, the bulshit audience that don't appreciate it.

Let the Pavarotti/Boe comparisons begin (I'm not really a Pavarotti fan, I like Placido Domingo better). Alfie Boe is the best tenor I've heard yet.
