  • Geat Song writers. Is hard to beleive its been 45 years. Still have ALL my 45's and LP's including this one.

  • Fabulous! These two were great song writers. Can't believe this was FORTY-FIVE years ago! Doesn't it seem like yesterday?

  • poo

  • great song!! great video!!!

  • how the fuck did i get connected to this when i was listening to bobby orlando???

  • i really wonder what she is doing tonight...

  • What a wonderful clip! Thanks for posting! So corny, but still cool! :)

  • Great pair that knew how to write and play music, and great voices to go along with their songs!

  • I was best friend to Bill Lewis, the Candy Store Prophets Drummer from 1975 until Bill's untimely death in 2005. When Tommy shot himself we joined Bobby Hart at a special wake on the beach near Malibu, and listened to Boyce and Hart Songs. When Bill died we had a huge wake (which I catered). Bobby Hart and Larry Taylor amongst many others attended. It was a grand send off for a fine musician. I miss my dear friend very much. It is great to listen to this music here !!

  • I once bought a book Tommy Boyce had written about songwriting. I can't say it made me a better songwriter, but he did have some interesting stories about some of the songs he had written.

  • neil diamond

  • some not most, maybe most carol king and other writers were involved

  • this one? they played 3

  • Gay.

  • @k90751 Not a fan of the 60s I guess. Oh well, you still have Justin and Selena.

  • The horn player and the female backup singers are going crazy! I'm surprised they were able to walk offstage.....hey, wait a minute....WTF? Where are they? They must be somewhere with the cords for the bass & guitar players

  • "I Wanna Be Free," at least the way the Monkees did it, kind of dropped off over the years. Their live version had a little more tang.

  • First time I ever saw anyone going from live to lip syncing in the same show.

  • The chops! Egad.

  • My Mom bought me this single when I was 6, because it had my name in it, where it says "Alright Bobby Let's Go". Its one of my all time favorite songs, probably wore out 3 or 4 copies of the 45... Thank God for cds! LOL. This is the 1st TV footage I have seen of Boyce & Hart. Thanks for the post:-)

  • Haha, I love their outfits! :D

  • @BinaChanel those suits should be in the Smithsonian

  • i see u have a machine that goes,"PING"

  • whoever picked their colors also designed the turn signals on Santa's Sleigh

  • i'm still apoligizing for not know that was Herb Alpert

  • oops they did write last train

  • stop over analyzing looking for mistakes, enjoy the music!

  • Is that Balki ? Cousinnn, Gat out of de citee

  • Bobby Hart looks like Louis Ruykeyser's kid...although I doubt you'd ever see the latter and late host of WSW in a red faux suede suit with a frilled shirt!

  • solid

  • Aww, Tommy Boyce was a cutie! :)

  • Singing the songs they wrote for the Monkees<3

  • @TheMonkeesRock they didnt write the last train to clarksville.........

  • @emaclynch Yea but most of them they wrote

  • @emaclynch uh, yeah, they did.

  • Remember the movie "White Men Can't Jump?" This is proof that they can't dance, too!

  • @bleahey Really? Better not let John Travolta hear you say that, I am sure he would beg to differ.

  • @bleahey what a foolish thing to say! Jessie Jackson is going to come on here and challenge your statement. While he is doing so, he will shake down youtube for money.

  • @bleahey I don't know if you'd consider what black folks "Dancing" these days.

Jungle love is a perfect song to describe what it is now.

  • Thank you, this is fantastic. I remember in 1968 at the pool room, playing pool and hearing that song playing on the juke box, I just seemed to do better if it was playing loudly! : -) I Wonder What She's Doing Tonight.

  • So, these were the guys who wrote for the monkees!!!! Interesting...

  • @gazuaman ... They were one of a number of well known and talented songwriters who were enlisted to write songs for the Monkees ... such as Neil Diamond ( I'm A Believer ), John Stewart ( Daydream Believer ), and others. ... Wayne

  • i still the "45" record . any one else?

  • The little step they do is a copy of the one Paul Revere Raiders do on some of their songs...wonder if it's an inside joke?

  • Bobby Hart's jacket has burned my retinas.

  • Interesting that they sing the first two songs directly, then the highlighted song is lip-cinqued. (did I spell that correctly?)

  • great blast from the past...

    just gotta love it~

  • Ok, who remembers the episode of "Bewitched" when sabrina kidnaps them and gets them to play at the Witch's Ball? Great memories!

  • @Bensmom511 You mean Serena?????

  • @Bensmom511 I remember that episode. Wasn't sure if anyone else would.

  • @luvelvis77 I wish I was too young to remember it, I remember it.

My favorite is still "Alice Long" but this one still rocks.

  • @Bensmom511

They were on I Dream of Jeannie too.

  • @Bensmom511 It was to have them appear at "The Cosmos Cotillion" (not "witch's ball", but it's the ame thing).

  • Respond to this video... These two guys wrote most of "The Monkees" biggest hits, even though they, themselves, had only one or two songs that made it big. How about those dance moves in this video? Eh? Proof that us musicians make lousy dancers because we're too busy playing with the band to learn how to dance.

  • A friend would never put you 'uptight'!

  • These guys are GROOOVY BABY, VERY SHAGADELIC, A BIT OF ALL RIGHT!

  • I didn't say it wasn't good

  • people don't buy music clips

  • they even used Herb Alpert to push them, that's as good as it gets

  • hey did they sell? no was I right?

  • bobby hart is my dads cousin

  • aweseome beginning the guitar riff!

    long live the 60's

  • "all right Bobby Let's go"..

  • why do they remind me of bret and jermaine?

  • Love(d) the song, but the "actors" pretending to be the band in the background could have shown a little more excitement for the "gig"

  • Love(d) dthe song, but the "actors" pretending to be the band in the background could have shown a little more excitement for the "gig"

  • mike nesmith is such a proper little gent

  • Video quality is good but the Audio is a harsh tin can sound, could it be fixed?

This song had one of the best bass guitar riffs, solid sound in it.

Cool to see this clip, thanks

  • These guys were one great song writing team...fabulous!

  • What a great video..It has all the elements we dig..Great songs, sound, stage, costumes..fav part from 1.30!!

  • Yes, the song is a great catchy tune, no doubt about it, but ya gotta admit that their austin powers leisure suits are out of control. Is that what used to pass for normal? Please tell me those were meant for stage performances only. Please.

  • if it wasnt for tommy boyce and bobby heart their would be no monkeys

  • the album cover comes 2 life, neat

  • trumpet & trombone

  • never said I could sing did I?

  • fact is I can play every instrument u can hear

  • Why are they so happy when the song is about what your girlfriend is doing. Whatever. These guys were songwriting geniuses. And not only were they friends of Herb Alpert (the host in case you didn't recognize him), but his employees -- recording on his A&M label.

  • Great clothes but I keep getting flashbacks of Austin Powers unfortunately.

  • @yokai1968 HAHA Total Austin Powers; they ARE the era Austin supposedly came from! But I wouldn't "unfortunately" - those are 3 of the funniest movies of all time, IMHO.

  • @bobbygoode Yeah! Baby! Yeah! : D

I must say I did like the first of the three.... for Vanessa Kensington naturally!

  • crap

  • It's hard to believe that this was a serious TV production piece in its day. Or was this comedy? Either way, the song IS catchy, I gotta admit.

  • @5050NM most 60s pop were guys tryin to look & sound like the beatles. as the beatles evolved & the rock/protest bands reined in, most of the pop/ bubblegum bands disolved/ even bobby darin couldnt cut it/ this is fun stuff tho . the best of this genra is /sugar sugar & na na hey hey goodye/ also monkees best of, as these guys wrote most of it. regards p.s. i think they all took it serious.

  • wonder how good the monkees woulde of been without these guys! guess we found out when ego nesmith fired don kirshner & wrote a song called/listen to the band/ then he realized that he alone destroyed the monkee machine,so he walked away with his fortune his mom left him from her invention of whiteout, the selfish ass! davy could sing tho.

  • Tommy Boyce & Bobby Hart were great song writers. They wrote many top 40 tunes for others. It's a shame Tommy shot himself.

  • It's amusing how Bobby throws the tambourine on the floor...

Herb Alpert was SO good-looking then...

  • they're not gay but I bet their album sales were bad

  • @Syzygy60 I could say the same for Rhianna, Katy Perry and Britney Spears. You don't know good music do you?

  • @Jantv81 I meant no disrespect,I was drunk(not an excuse) but i was just joking about their clothes and I didn't realize that was Herb Alpert,he's high on my music influence list.He just seemed a bit like a used car salesman when he introduced B&H

  • @Jantv81 of u ever saw my record collection u would realize that I do know music, very well, from ABBA to Zappa

  • @Syzygy60 Bethoven to Wagner...Aretha to Ziggy Stardust(ok,that was stretching it)

  • @Syzygy60: ??? They weren't an album act. This song, however, most definitely charted in the Top 40 and is still a staple of oldies rock radio.

  • who trusts that piece of shit?

  • I'm sry I shouldn't call these cupcakes,fruits

  • @Syzygy60

You're so homophobic. What are you afraid of, latent tendencies??

  • Neil Diamond is Macho compared to these two fruits...I love there music

  • one of the greatest pop songs ever

  • Tommy was so cool!

  • Rest in Peace Tommy!

  • I love this video!!!!!

  • These songs are a great example of why I buy mostly old music. It was the best. Timeless to those who have ears for good music.

  • Ba ha haaa...the guitar intro starts a good 3-4 seconds before anyone starts "playing" their guitar :-D. I love this song but the lipsynching of the '60s was the lamest.

  • Sure Herb, they're friend of yours.

  • I knew Tommy Boyce, he was a good guy. He liked me mainly because I knew most of the songs he has written, especially the Monkey songs and when we drank together we would sing them. I was sad when he took his own life.

  • @cedtrix9 Incredible that you knew and were drinking buddies with a legend!!

  • @cedtrix9 Im really sorry to hear your comments, sounds like he was a great mate, its so tragic when you lose a close friend.

  • Was this from Hollywood Palace?

  • @powerlounger From looking at the wings of the stage, IMO, it looks like it is.

  • give me the song Alice long

  • BUBBLEGUM CITY!!....

  • @FOSEEBOY yes i first heard this last Saturday night from a bubblegum music critic - bubblegum city!!!!!!

  • bobby hart is rockin' the austin powers look..love it:)

  • Oh....so that's where Mike Meyers got the Austin Powers outfit from.......

  • Thx for that link BellaGem444! You r right, Mr. Boyce is HOT in the Bewitched clip!! If he was here now or I was there then, I woulda been a Boyce and Hart groupie, lol. But only for Tommy! yummers.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @dsaman The horn section is on the record they are lip synching to!

  • Comment removed

  • I wish I was teenager back then music was fab.

  • @caprice6 It's hard to explain how swingin' the 60s really were. You'd have had a blast.

  • @gotch09 Music and clothes were great. I wish I live back then, I was only four 1969

  • @caprice6 To all you guys that wish you were "of age" in the 60s. Keep in mind there was a war going on and you may have been asked to participate. Over 50,000 that did are not here to watch youtube today, plus tens of thousands more that have passed since the war.

  • @alienhuman Yeah and they all died for nothing. Thought we lived in a free country? besides I would have shot my foot to get out.

  • It's no stretch to imagine that's Chuck Findlay...this show was all A&M artists, and was hosted by Herb Alpert...The guitarist behind Boyce and Hart is Gerry McGee, who would join The Ventures shortly after this show.

  • OH yea so groovey man.

  • No dancing! Keep your day job. ;) I remember this song...great memories!

  • HA HA! Bobby throws down the tamborine @ 1:31 saying like "this is BS!"

  • @mybloggroup were they lip syncing ? i dont know

  • @Foorehtnossip It looks like their lip syncing to me also when they start the music I wonder what she's doing tonight they aren't strumming the guitars to the music plus their guitars aren't plugged in

  • @garygve they're doing it we guess , but i just tuned in cuz i was wondering what my whore bitch wife who left me is/wasw doing that nite =-=- i still dont know ..but weird they did that fake shit way back then too , oh well , another 100 years we'll never know the difference , everybody is dieing

  • @mybloggroup At the 2:22 mark, Tommy practically does the same thing with the guitar. Later they do those "sissy" dance steps during the trumpet solo. Tommy should have kept playing the guitar and Bobby should have been playing a VOX keybord.

  • I want to jam with these guys

  • I hate lip synching, but I love this song. The one on the right (don't know if it's Boyce or Hart) is cute enough to have been a Monkee!! Why wasn't he?

  • Comment removed

  • check teh boots guys... groovin these days were lol

  • I hear that!! Lucky me for being present when toonsmiths practiced the trade!!!

  • This was pure pop bubblegum music at its best. There was a lot of great happy music on the radio through the 60's. What do we have today? - Lady Ga Ga and a Bad Romance.

  • Love these songs!!! Great video!!!

  • thanks to all our fans for keeping the magic of the music alive and to whoever posted this

  • what a great version; crisp and clean

  • Wow It looks like they are doing the Hustle dance step there...lol

  • Bobby was so stiff- looking while Tommy had the rhythm.

  • The Edwardian Clothes with White go go boots ..... that was the grooviest back then ... : )

  • @jaddison1112 Gay

  • @jaddison1112 Today that's an "in drag" homosexual costume.

  • @jaddison1112 I can't remember, did they write this song?

  • I sang this song for my ex girl at that time. Paula I still wonder what you are doing!

  • Thanks you tube for giving us the opportunity to watch and hear all the old and fantastic 60's and 70's era's of some of the best music of all time. Gr8 to sit and listen to for hours. What is really scary is i remember the word's to this stuff and i am luvin' it.. Thanks

  • Absolutely Awesome. Gotta love the dance

routine at 3:10. Tommy Boyce's Green Velour

suit is so fabulous! He kinda reminds me of

the lead singer of The Monkees.

  • Great vid! Happy birthday Bobby!

  • And I always thought it was just me who thought the best part of the song was "Alright Bobby, let's go"! Love those outfits & the dancing. This is great.

  • Hey Supernezzy if you want to see a real Austin Power lookalike watch Peter and Gordons I Go to Pieces video... I mean that is like who Mike Myers must have wanted to make his character look like. I love Peter and Gordon too .

  • Bobby Hart makes me think of Austin Powers! LOL, great tune :-)

  • "Alright Bobby, let's go" best part of the song. I just love that.

  • OMG ...i thought the same thing. look at my headline... im a old fart and a friend of mine knew them. (go check out my other channel..chuckloves1969

  • @ic3ok1969

Right on! That little quote has the ability to get stuck in a head like it's nobody's business.

  • This is one of my favorite videos too!

  • I want to learn how to dance like that

  • I Love Vox guitar, I own two and I want more !

  • They wrote those Monkees songs.

  • at 2:13 you see the guy in red lose his balance. He was on drugs. And the horn solo..where are the hornists at 3:10..What's up with that? Haven't seen these guys on the oldies tour..not a wonder

  • tommy boyce passed away in 1994, bobby hart out of respect for his writing partner has refused to capitalize on his friends past.....

  • Haven't seen these guys lately; plus they stealing monkee songs..whats up with that?

  • @uselessjoe They wrote those songs for the Monkees.

  • Their costumes remind me of the "Raiders" except for the breeches. A little Revolutionary action going on! They were very talented!

  • So... who did that great guitar shred at opening of the song? At least the bass player fakes it really well. Great song! and come to think of it.....I wonder what she's doing tonight?

  • It was very common in the '60s for the song to be lip synched. Almost all the time on the Ed Sullivan show, the Smothers Brothers and the like, it was done. It would have been nice to see if performed live but that wasn't the way it was done then.

  • I recently viewed dozens of clips of 60s rock & pop groups on the Ed Sullivan show... and noticed that the majority, if not all of the performances, were actually "live". This was true all the way back to Elvis' first appearance on the legendary variety hour. Sometimes they used a backing recording with live vocals only.

  • You are correct about that but many were lip synched because they wanted the music to sound like the recorded song. When I was watching them "live" in the sixties, I wanted to hear it like the record.
