suikoden 1 and 2 are the best because of the continuing characters. you get nostalgic with all the characters of suikoden 1 and 2 although they are a lot you get to care for them in a way that is different than some rpgs with only 6 main characters. I love the castle system and its development and the side games! Suikoden 1 and 2 are the best in the series. The story is compelling, mature and deep ( and both are different from each other but in a way connected)!

It is an epic game like the first suikoden but harder to get the characters, awesome how they had flick, victor and the main dood of suikoden, (if you had all characters and a save of the first) it has what everyone wants variety, loads of characters (usually all cool) war and a great story to boot, game designers just dont care about story as much these days dood's :(

And seeing all the characters just gives you goosebumps.

This game evokes so much memories in so many people.

I don't think a better 2D RPG will ever be produced.

@gotxbrains really? I thought part 4 was quite dark as well. It was like Suikoden 2 with the 2 heroes. And all the battlestuff was like Suikoden 1. To me it felt a lot like Suikoden 1. Loved it so much! Bought 2 copies of Suikoden 4. Maybe you should play again :-)/

But I wish Konami would just re-release Suikoden I and II together for the PS2. Come on Konami! Share the love! More people should get a chance to play this gem!

It's my favorite ever, too. Beautiful score, best story. There were three of us trying to play it and we'd fight over whose turn it was. Yes, we were grown - in our 20's and 30's. Only sad if you never played the game!
