  • But it cuts off the end! Why? And no one else seems to have commented on this....

  • Have you ever seen strong wind caressing a field of long grass, making it look like ripples running across a lake, and had the urge to dive into it?

  • @UnrealHel Yes.

  • Comment removed

  • @livlifelive I was thinking it sounds a lot like the works they used for the movie The Hours. His music is in that, so maybe this was one of the pieces, but if not, very similar. Beautiful movie due to this music.

  • unusual time sig, 14\16

  • Philip Glass+Studying=Perfect match.

  • @SexyItaliana3 yes yes yes

  • Phillip Glass' music is incredible when studying. :)

  • @DarthMessias Agreed. Try George Winston too ;)

  • It's especially disappointing to see that even the people denouncing others for being retarded are themselves acting retarded.

  • You know what? Let everyone bomb each other. Let some form of atomic hell shower the earth with fire. Let the millions of pathogens be released upon everyone in the world. Just let us all die, so we don't have to squabble about our religion, our nationalities or our money. But if there is some form of afterlife. Any form at all... please, have it something to do with Philip Glass.

Oh, and @DarthenRahl Please disable comments. Just... please.

  • I really have to thank my cousin Jim. This is beautiful.

  • this song is like a conductor

i like to write, and when i write as i listen to this song, words just pour out of me

  • I've been all afternoon stressed writing class notes... then I heard this song and I told myself... stop, listen, take breath.

  • Bless you Philip Glass... :)

  • blessings

  • After hearing this, I started composing, now I am writing a symphony. THANKS PHIL :D

  • sooo great - as everything from Ph. Glass...!!!! thanks for posting the video and the info from the album. Also me - I should have it. If it's still available.

  • This song helps me forget things that I don't need to think all the time.

  • too many emotions to express in words

  • Glass' attitude towards his own music is beautiful. (paraphrase) "If you don't like it, that's fine, you don't have to listen to it. Go listen to something else."

  • I love that it is repetitive, but always moving ahead, focused, ahorrative. I really like patterns in general, they let you concentrate more efectively. To all of you, stop overthinking and fighting and just let your toughts flow with the melody, if you still don't like it then go search for another kind of thing.

  • How can possibly someone fight against another while listening to this music, or even worse about this music?

  • Good interpretation.

But am I the only one who see that this music is equal aaaall the time?!?!

  • Fighting on youtube is like winning the special Olympics.

    ...

You might win but you're still retarded

  • @kapojos I'm waiting for your example of a deep song, you sound like very experienced.

  • no, you were asking me who i was to make this statememt, so to show that i am not the only one that says this, i mentioned that many others said so. i noticed that there was something missing in many things (music, tv, etc) and found out that many persons also found out this fact. and when you find out more you always end up in spiritualism, art and religion. and from the beginning i mentioned spiritual development. maybe i was rude, but not untrue.

  • very philip glass

  • I like this piece alot but certain things about it just bugs me as well.

  • is there a video without the fuzz?

  • everytime i listen to this song i wonder why i sold my piano !

  • I was studying with this in the back ground and once 2:29 started playing I actually said 'oh my god' out loud and I stopped studying :3

    Such a amazing song <3

  • @rustbucket3000 thats because you have an average emotional, spiritual development. thats why many people get moved but easy melodies like this piece. it shows only the easy layer of emotion, not very deep. most people dont feel deep, they dont feel anything and than suddenly they feel a little bit emotion for the first time in days, weeks, months and they think its very deep, but its only a first layer.

  • @Kapojos

I don't think that to be honest.. I try not to sound angry but I find it a bit offensive that you think you can judge my emotional intelligence and how ingaged I am with my feelings just by one comment I made. It also sounds, to me personally, like you are insulting my personal and mental development. I just think this song if very good at ingaging an emtional and personal response with the listener, and that's what makes the song and the composer so successful.

  • @Kapojos You, sir or madam, need to get over yourself. The emotions derived from art can be some of the truest and most pure, a standard that is indeed unique to each individual.

And @rustbucket3000, I too underwent that same experience... Phillip Glass has an ability to compose and produce music in a way akin only to the most talented of musicians in history.

  • @nick1706 Yeah, I wish people would learn that there's no such thing as "Fake music" Whatever we feel when we take in this music is real to us, as individuals. And other people may feel it differently, but that doesn't mean they don't get it, or its not real.

I really don't see the point in being a critic towards music. Its an art that can't really be judged, because its so universal. Not everybody likes to read or watch movies, but we all love music. In some way or another.

  • @Kapojos Perhaps you can give us an example of a piece of music you find to be "deep" so we can criticize how shallow your emotions are. Maybe then you will realize that, although the music sounds the same to everyone listening, everyone feels and interprets it uniquely. The listener hears the music through their emotions and experiences. You may not personally find this piece very deep, but you are completely illogical to belittle others over your opinion on their interpretation of music.

  • @AtalayaC yes its always uniquely for every individual, nothing wrong with it, i also feel my emotions when i listen to this piece, but i also know it is not a very deep emotion, just like a child who thinks some movie is very great, but when he is older he doenst like it anymore, he feels the emotion he had when he was small, but knows just that it was a beginning a first step in spirituality. and sometimes you still like this movie, but you know better why it was so great because

  • @AtalayaC your spiritual development has grown. you may think its still great ,but you may also think now the movie is a bit childish and it could have been a better movie though. in this way i know this philip glass song works, just like i also know britney spears can work for some persons. but i dont get spiritual attracked anymore.

  • @Kapojos All you have described is your own emotional perception of things; I iterate that you are unable to logically speak on the simplicity or complexity of the perception of others.

  • @AtalayaC you are just attached to your opinion that this is my own emotional perception. thats not the point! everybody has his own perception, thats old news. and thats is not what i am discussing. im talking about growth of spirituality. you sound like this song of philip glass, with a save readymade and old conclusion of temporary ideas.

  • @Kapojos Let's return to your original comment: "...you have an average emotional, spiritual development."

Who are you to make claims about someone else's spiritual and emotional development?

    "most people dont feel deep...."

Again, who are you to make claims about another person's depth? How can you not see the logical fallacy in this? This is why I continue to iterate that musical perception is simply that: perception. The experience, emotion, and depth is unique for everyone.

  • @AtalayaC if you care so much about my status; many spiritual leaders, contents of quality books about inner life, religous life, etc claim the same thing about the spiritual development of most people today. most significant persons throughout the history say the same thing. so there is a level of deep and less deeper feeling. by the way, if i had said that this person must have had a very deep feeling and must be spiritual highly developed, than you probable have praised my words...

  • @Kapojos So you are projecting what you were told in a book to people who said that they were moved by this piece by belittling them in pointing out how simplistic and shallow they are. You are both rude and overstating your claims. You are bringing religion and spiritualism into this when really all that was mentioned was emotional perception. Again, with your tendency to speak for others, I would not have praised you, but rather ignored you while still holding the same view.

  • his music is....so clear...!

    glassclear...

    FEELING EXPLOSION....2:29

  • it stimulate our feelings, emotions and thoughts it's a great piece, it transcend techniques soeverybody can feel the music.

FEEL, ENJOY and GROW, that is why music exist !

  • Wow...just incredibe.

  • time flowing in front of your eyes, time lapsing forward, trees growing, stars that slowly are dying, clouds moving...that's what i see while listening

  • Screw Metallica, I LOVE PHILIP GLASS, yes i USED to be a Metallica fan, and still like that music, but this is much better.

  • transcending music.

    listen as he does it.

  • There's a remarkable version of this for organ. It's on the album "Philip Glass: Organ Works."

The whole thing is spectacular. It's on iTunes for pretty cheap, as I recall.

  • This is how I feel right now. I have all these artistic ideas and all sorts of things that take over my mind and drive me mad and I have so much that people make me do and want me to do or I have to do but my inner self keeps taking over. That's what this is, isn't it?

  • This song, convinced me that I should start taking Piano lessons. The weekend I decided to go out and try to find somewhere to take said Piano lessons, my grandmother died. I was devastated. Yet, I couldn't cry. I put on this song, and for 9:59 seconds, all the tears I held in my heart and soul poured like never before. This song means a lot to me, and always will. It is sheer beauty. I mean, it IS beauty. Just, in the music sense, not the sight sense.

  • @only2comment98 don't give up so easily though. pursue your dream... you can play for your grandmaa in ur heart when you learn this.

  • @only2comment98

The most moving comment I've ever read on youtube.

  • @only2comment98 Agreed! I thoght the same! I NEED piano lessons!

  • @only2comment98 Boo hoo.

  • @aradioactivedonut haha, you're cool? I tell a true story, and you judge me huh? that's nice. Seeing as how i don't believe in any afterlife, I lost the person who meant most in the world to me to fucking alcoholism, and I'll never see her again. Why the hell would you look up music like this, just to Troll people talking about the music and what it means to them? Get a life, kid.

  • @only2comment98 Actually im pretty sure quite a bit of these stories that people type like this are really just ways to get sympathy. For one, only people that desperatly want attention speak of the dead in the youtube comments section, I had my grandpa die and a friend of mine commit suicide in the same week and you don't see me whining about it over youtube comments. And don't feed trolls

  • @bluepickle15 Fuck you, and your sympathy, I was simply remarking on the beauty of this song and relating it to a real life scenario. You think "thumbs up" on youtube is sympathy in any form? It's appreciation, and understanding. I'm sorry you had such a tragic experience, I really am. We've all had these experiences, and comments speaking about them, to me, is like an informal sort of therapy for said happenings. Expect to see things such as this on videos of songs as completely serene as this.

  • @only2comment98 wait what

  • 2:30 = Favorite Part

  • I can't express in words my love for this peice. It's simply beautiful........ I just got some new speakers too..... Philip Glass, I salute you.

  • Beautiful!

  • ah... this is just what i needed today..

  • Dam 2:30 is the best.

I'm gonna learn this on piano for sure.

  • listened to this in Band today (music class) and I was like shit! i need this in my iPod!! haha great song :DD

  • I'm learning this on piano :) beautiful piece, but damn, those arpeggios hurt my hands!

  • Comment removed

  • This is my mind ,looking at something drifting away.

  • 2:31 .... I just woke up inside and out

  • I like his work but I dont think he is the best interpreter

  • Are you serious? This could have had no thumbs down? Agh... I hope that person thinks hard about what he/she did.

  • a legend alive

  • peaceful

  • This piece of brilliant music just lets every thought go. It is like lying down on a starry summer night or like looking at an old photograph of a girl you once knew. I never thought I would hear music that can literally lift your spirit. Truly speechless.

  • @Ciprianroman i know exactly how you feel. i looked at the stars already tonight.. and now all i have or pictures of my old girl.. c'est la vie

  • Reminds me of the pattern of raindrops falling, something very close to nature in this piece.

So delicate, slightly sorrowful, and very pensive. What an amazing talent to compose this.

  • it hurts me every single time i hear it.......

  • Philip Glass and Buckethead need to work together.

  • Feels like a dream of endless thought...

  • This song is New York City at 8:20 in the morning. Sitting back and watching the crowd move in fast motion, the lights of the cars and the hordes of people. Simply beautiful.

  • @drwerewolf217 Someone's been watching Koyaanisqatsi.

  • @drwerewolf217 veru true i agree <3

  • So amazing. It's like the kind of music you'd have on your MP3 player if you could actually fly DBZ-style.

  • i prefer the organ version.

  • Beautiful.

  • beautiful, soulful, inspiring, thank you P.G.

  • Great Music it inspires me.

  • is this from an album? I need it!

  • @laleldon search for "Glass Cage" on iTunes you'll find it

  • @laleldon The album is Philip Glass: Solo Piano

  • @laleldon metamorphosis my friend, amazing album

  • i would like to know who is the person that voted this song down and what was their reason behind it?

this song is absolutely amazingly beautiful.

  • So.... beautiful.... :) *mesmerized*!!

  • I've just started listening to Glass's work, and this piece is my new favorite :)

  • This is amazing. Listen to Seal Eyeing by animal collective. They both give me this vibe that makes me want to jump naked into a cloud of autumn leaves and snow flakes.

  • Just looking at this for Music coursework, it's really lovely. I never realised before now. :)

  • this song helps me study and do homework... no joke i just put this on and i can concentrate so much better.

strange, huh? I love it :)

  • This song inspired me to make a film and submit it to sundance :)

  • wish i could describe how good this is...

i could listen to this for the rest of my life on repeat and still have a smile on my face.

    genius.

  • I couldn't agree more .His music truly transcends :)

  • It's like getting closer to recognizing some subtle little thing that can't even be described. He builds this familiarity and then, quickly the realization kinda dawns on you... but it's different for everyone.

  • sounds like ludovico einaudi....

  • so simple yet so moving.

  • Very beautiful, moving music.

And here was me saying "they don't make it like they used to"

    Words truely eaten.

  • Its like... these notes and sounds describe our inner most part of our thoughts and emotions better than words ever could.

  • let it go on forever.

  • is it ever to late to learn how to play??

  • @BIGG209 Of course not. And don't worry if you know nothing about music, find a teacher, and he/she will be happy to teach you.

  • n-e-v-e-r.

  • Glass must have been obsessionated by the thirds...

All his childish compositions are structurated on elementar arpeggios of third...

It's incredible how he can be repetitive...

  • Nope..you are not the only one!! God listens and enjoy too!!

  • Am I the only one who thinks that God might be jealous of Philip Glass?

  • Hahaha great comment

  • @PennnSmith i dont think god would be jealous of Philip Glass, i just think he would sit back and acknowledge that in such a troubled world he managed to create something so perfect

  • @PennnSmith If there was one, I'd definitely have to agree.

  • @PennnSmith wow!!!!! ok loser

  • @PennnSmith No sir, you are not the only one.

  • @wizardwigz well youre the only one who's gay!

  • @PennnSmith God probably finds it a little too busy.

  • @PennnSmith lol

  • :)) amaaziing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Utterly sublime...sheer mystique and loveliness

  • Magnifique, j'aime bien la redondance.

  • absolutely wonderful.this from the truman show too.

  • Plain happiness.

  • its like dreaming ... or when you imagine about future ... incredible feelings, no words ...

  • @sammathboy indeed..absolutely unique

time fast forwarding, flowers growing, stuff like that

  • This is surprisingly involved for a Phillip Glass piece, but no less beautiful or moving because of it.

  • thank you for this eternal orbiting... i love the loneliness that they blessed me with...

  • I'm writing a paper at 2:30 in the morning and Mr. Glass' music is the only thing that's keeping me going.

  • you know what, 2:30 is exactly where one of the best loop is :D

  • Ohmigosh yes. Dead on. It is the miracle of life, the power of emotion, a fountain of amazement, it just inspires so many wonderful feelings.....

  • I love this song, if there was a soundtrack to the inner workings of my own mind, it would be this. I'm always thinking lots of thoughts.

  • :) We are all One

  • i wish i could create music that is this awesome. well at least i get to enjoy it :)

  • actually, we just missed a chance to enjoy it in real. look at Philip glass calendar

  • Just saw a performance by the Royal Ballet School to this song. It brought tears to my eyes. Absolutely breathtaking.

  • Yes, beautiful...meaningful...

There is also the same Mad Rush executed on an electric tracking pipe organ.(Reismann). Its very clean and subtle.

I think it would be icing on the cake to hear this track played on a colossal cathedral organ by a true Glass fanatic.

    A lovely posting. Thank you.

  • Thank you for uploading this :)

    This song is so... beautiful
