@leo92765 I really don't know what else to say, I had the box that came with it and even when I called SONY and gave them the S/N on the system, they told me I have the 80GB model. So I don't know what else to add because I did a response video to this video where I even show the box for it. There's a second gen with partial PS2 software based and a 3rd gen 80GB that's the same thing as the 40GB but has a 80GB hard drive and comes with the dual shock 3 controller and not the six axis controller.
Wrong!...the one with the silver paint (to the right) is not a 80GB dude... its a 40GB... the 80GB models look identical to the 60GB models... The motherboards however are different as the 60GB has EE Emotion Engine that is the PS2 hardware as the 80GB only has the PS2 software in it... Pull out the Hdd and read.. It will say 40GB!
It is the best system that Sony will ever make.. A power house that no other system can even come close. I have 2 60GB( now 250GB and 500GB) with fan mods and still going strong no overheating problems at all. Most people are scared due to that.. They are still the best... LONG LIVE MICHAEL!!!!!

@TheWetFeathers I've had mine on for over 100 hours, it won't overheat. Unless its wrapped in a towel or maybe put in a tight place. But you could easily have it running and playing without turning it off for weeks.

@heatfilter 1MT, they break down 90-95 percent of the time do to owner negligence. Hardly anyone blows out the heat sink fins on the exhaust port and when they do realize that they have a serious problem, they do not invest in a can of compressed gas and blow with their mouths instead. This has got to be one of the worst mistakes ever because now you have clumps that form bigger clumps in the long run. On top of the fore mentioned, now there are hot spots over on the CPU/GPU surface.

my 80 gb has chrome, card reader, 4 usb, vents you talked about, so mine is just like your 60 gb but no problems like the 60 gbs have. But its got the newer louder fan.

I had a 60GB until it broke in December of 09. I sent it in to Sony and they sent me a refurbished 60GB a few weeks later. Its worked perfectly since then!
I had a 80GB ps3 that played ps1, ps2 and ps3 games it also had the Crome the 4 USB ports and memory card readers and the vents In front. I bought it new from gamestop so it wasn't modded.
@wwerules1000 those 80 gb ones didnt have the heart chip. they used software based stuff to play ps2 games. I believe and they didnt play as many ps2 games.
I actually have one of the last 80gb models that included the BC and card reader ports. It's the one that came bundled with MGS4. So you could say I got the better deal, except I don't even use the card readers, and 1 of the few PS2 games I bothered to replay on the PS3 (Summoner) couldn't be finished because apparently a KEY item doesn't appear when played on an emulator. o_O In the end, my model didn't really provide me with much of anything. I still love it to pieces though.

i have a ps3 and it only gets ps2 games and when i put a ps3 game it just loads but doesnt show the disc icon under game and when i putg MW2 the same thing happens ive cleaned with toothpaste,and lotion. haven tried alcohol a person at gamestop told me it can be cleaned with lotion :C
@fifasurf That sucks. from a business point it makes sense to make the PS3 as cheap as possible. The only redeeming thing out of this is that new PS2's are $100. So its not much for them. I had a fat PS2 and it died a while ago and I just bought a 90001 slim PS2 and this one has the power supply inside so no power brick like the older slims. @mymovie3 So far I've played countless PS2 games with no problem. They're passing a very old rumor. The only thing in regards to the PS2 Emo/cell emu was gfx smooting/upscaling. Why would they sell the things with it, only to disable them? There's no point to it, and they've already sold them; they took out the Emo to bring down production costs, so tell me how they'd reduce cost's of making the ones that they've already sold? 20/60gb has the Emo, 80gb+(FAT) has cell emulation.
@mymovie3 Yes I have the 60gb model. From what info i was able to gather after getting ready to mod my PS3, Sony removed the compatibility by HARDWARE(PS2 Emotion engine) when the 80gb model came out to cut down on costs. So the 20/60gb are the ones with the actual PS2 Emo engine, 80gb has an emulator running off the CELL processor.
I have 120GB PS3 Slim and I like it alot. I also have a 120GB Xbox 360 Elite, so I'm not too worried about memory. I wish the PS3 would play PS2 games so I could see them in HD & so Sony didn't have an excuse to remake PS2 games for PS3. I have a PS2 though, so it's not a huge deal, but it would be more convenient.
Also the chrome panels and the semi transparent door is exactly what you described in the video. Unfortunately previous owner updated FW to 3.50 so now i have to find a way to downgrade FW so i can use homebrews. I have no intention of buying GT5 or a 3DTV. Since i'm new to it, it haven't created any PSN network stuff yet so idk if that checks for updates or not. Only thing i've done with it was watch Inception and play GT5 prolouge and NFS SHIFT.
I just bought a PS3 60gb off craigslist. 4 usb ports and 3 card readers. Verified SN as well. Whats funny is i've NEVER owned a playstation in my life. So now i have a backlog of PS games to get. Didn't know it was so great. Guss I got lucky.

I have a question. What is the difference between this 60GB and my 80GB model? Mine has all the same things as that 60GB, Card readers, 4 USB ports, same hard drive layout, chrome, etc. I believe the only difference is the original 20 and 60 have a different type of ps2 emulation or something? I'm not exactly sure what the benefits are as my 80 plays ps2 and ps1 games great, especially after the firmware updates?

@XylenceAppx Yes the 60GB is more prone to get the YLOD because it gets MUCH hotter than the other versions. Make sure it works and looks in good shape, try PS1,PS2, PS3 games and DVD and blu-ray movies to make sure the PS3 reads every kind. make sure all the ports works, the USB in the front and all the ports in the back. In short, check everything and listen to the PS3, make sure it sounds fine, if you know someone with a 60GB PS3, bring him/her with you so they can look at it to.

The 80 gig Sony PS3 supports PS2 games through software emulation.
The success of this emulation was poor at first, but Sony has improved it with several generations of firmware upgrades.
Yours may not play ps2 games but there are different versions of the 80 gb ps3s that do.

i agree with you fifasurf i have both these models but i had the 80GB first then i bought the 60GB so that i could play ps2 games in HD ive gone of sony a bit after i found out that the newer models dont play ps2 games and that the newer models also lost more features i makes sony look cheap because every xbox 360 is backwards compatible so why cant all ps3s be dont believe the statement that sony said that the were losing money

id doesn't matter if the old 60gb model heats up the room and gets hot thers a whole group of people who would never surrender there 60gb model for a new one i might be one if them soon too my tv doesnt display my ps2 properly and it actually looks better on the ps3 thanks to upscaling to hd and progressive scanning on all games long live the 60gb

I had a 60GB until it broke in December of 09. I sent it in to Sony and they sent me a refurbished 60GB a few weeks later. Its worked perfectly since then!

the 250gb ps3 is the slim model and i only can play ps1 and ps3 games.

I had a 80GB ps3 that played ps1, ps2 and ps3 games it also had the Crome the 4 USB ports and memory card readers and the vents In front. I bought it new from gamestop so it wasn't modded.

@wwerules1000 those 80 gb ones didnt have the heart chip. they used software based stuff to play ps2 games. I believe and they didnt play as many ps2 games.

I actually have one of the last 80gb models that included the BC and card reader ports. It's the one that came bundled with MGS4. So you could say I got the better deal, except I don't even use the card readers, and 1 of the few PS2 games I bothered to replay on the PS3 (Summoner) couldn't be finished because apparently a KEY item doesn't appear when played on an emulator. o_O In the end, my model didn't really provide me with much of anything. I still love it to pieces though.

@TheScamp44 well,you can install some games and if you don't play them any more,you could delete them,but don't worry-your trophy's will stay there if you don't delete your save games.....I do that with my 60gb version and it is really good =) hope that this helps...

i have a ps3 and it only gets ps2 games and when i put a ps3 game it just loads but doesnt show the disc icon under game and when i putg MW2 the same thing happens ive cleaned with toothpaste,and lotion. haven tried alcohol a person at gamestop told me it can be cleaned with lotion :C

@fifasurf That sucks. from a business point it makes sense to make the PS3 as cheap as possible. The only redeeming thing out of this is that new PS2's are $100. So its not much for them. I had a fat PS2 and it died a while ago and I just bought a 90001 slim PS2 and this one has the power supply inside so no power brick like the older slims. But yeah, I wish I had a 60GB PS3 of my own.

@fifasurf I had a 80 gb ps3 bought from game exchange for 280, backwards compatable of course. I own it for one month and yellow light of death blew my sh!t outta the water. took it back got a backwards compatable 60 gb for free. Make sure to get your ps3 serviced. I am.

@mymovie3 So far I've played countless PS2 games with no problem. They're passing a very old rumor. The only thing in regards to the PS2 Emo/cell emu was gfx smooting/upscaling. Why would they sell the things with it, only to disable them? There's no point to it, and they've already sold them; they took out the Emo to bring down production costs, so tell me how they'd reduce cost's of making the ones that they've already sold? 20/60gb has the Emo, 80gb+(FAT) has cell emulation.

@mymovie3 Yes I have the 60gb model. From what info i was able to gather after getting ready to mod my PS3, Sony removed the compatibility by HARDWARE(PS2 Emotion engine) when the 80gb model came out to cut down on costs. So the 20/60gb are the ones with the actual PS2 Emo engine, 80gb has an emulator running off the CELL processor.

I have 120GB PS3 Slim and I like it alot. I also have a 120GB Xbox 360 Elite, so I'm not too worried about memory. I wish the PS3 would play PS2 games so I could see them in HD & so Sony didn't have an excuse to remake PS2 games for PS3. I have a PS2 though, so it's not a huge deal, but it would be more convenient.

Also the chrome panels and the semi transparent door is exactly what you described in the video. Unfortunately previous owner updated FW to 3.50 so now i have to find a way to downgrade FW so i can use homebrews. I have no intention of buying GT5 or a 3DTV. Since i'm new to it, it haven't created any PSN network stuff yet so idk if that checks for updates or not. Only thing i've done with it was watch Inception and play GT5 prolouge and NFS SHIFT.

@kingcamilo Everything is saved on the HDD, the PS3 has a backup feature that you should use first if you are planning on changing the HDD.

I have a question. What is the difference between this 60GB and my 80GB model? Mine has all the same things as that 60GB, Card readers, 4 USB ports, same hard drive layout, chrome, etc. I believe the only difference is the original 20 and 60 have a different type of ps2 emulation or something? I'm not exactly sure what the benefits are as my 80 plays ps2 and ps1 games great, especially after the firmware updates?

@XylenceAppx Yes the 60GB is more prone to get the YLOD because it gets MUCH hotter than the other versions. Make sure it works and looks in good shape, try PS1,PS2, PS3 games and DVD and blu-ray movies to make sure the PS3 reads every kind. make sure all the ports works, the USB in the front and all the ports in the back. In short, check everything and listen to the PS3, make sure it sounds fine, if you know someone with a 60GB PS3, bring him/her with you so they can look at it to.
