I am proud of my hispanic heritage, but I most certainly I DO NOT support the Dream Act. It is a misconception that it is a civil rights issue, or even a "hispanic rights" issue when it is not. It is a completely LEAGAL issue. Being illegal is illegal, why are people taken aback by this? I am legal, so are my parents, grandparents, and my great grandparents became legal citizens. The vast majority hispanics living in the US are legal citizens, the Dream Act hurts far more of us than it helps.

Few illegal immigrants have even a HS education or any technical skill set, and few pursue further education even if offered scholarships, free tuition, etc.

The statistics are clear: even American-born Hispanics lag behind the general American populace by nearly all academic measures, even after three or four generations of living in the United States. I find this difficult to believe, at least in most cases, given the number of people who send money back to family members in Latino countries. when I lived in North Carolina, most of my neighbors were Hispanics, and many of them said they had family in Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, etc. to whom they sent money. in my experience, Hispanic immigrants who leave all roots behind are the exception, not the rule.

Wow it is amazing that when people think that they can get something for free and it suits their needs they will leave rude comments and lies and screaming its race. The argument has been that illegals do jobs that Americans don't want to do, but that argument is over 30 years old and untrue. Most illegals i know have never been to a farm or an orchard. They work with drs, nurses, Hallmark, Las Vegas convention center, factories Mc Donalds..all job that we do want and need.
Hell no! Illegals need to be prosecuted. Stop being supported and be deported. People need to STOP HIRING THEM. We need to revoke the law that gives newly legal immigrants to be able to sponsor families to become citizens. It should be harder to become an American. We also need to STOP letting people who just have babies here stay and revoke the law of naturalization. It has been abused. This is not a racist war..this is a war of citizenship..WE NEED TO STOP REWARDING CRIMINALS.
Any form of amnesty given to anyone who breaks the law is a slap in the face to those who legally come here. It's a slap in the face of the tax payers who foot the bill for them already and will get to pay for this process and then we get to pay for them and their many many children. It's a slap in the face to the many legal children who are getting terrible educations in crime filled communities while criminals get a free ride. Since my kids suffer from this, they will pay for it.

2) The Dream Act provides a safe harbor to aliens who are pursuing a college degree and or military career

@lavoe91 Sorry, but the statistics don't lie - Hispanics, including American-born Latinos, have the highest HS and college dropout rates in the country, and very few pursue college given the opportunity. Few illegal immigrants have even a HS education or any technical skill set, and few pursue further education even if offered scholarships, free tuition, etc.

I'm not sure I follow your logic. The statistics are clear: even American-born Hispanics lag behind the general American populace by nearly all academic measures, even after three or four generations of living in the United States. I don't see how so many people could remain completely ignorant of the educational opportunities available to them for so long. I think your argument is only valid for recent immigrants.

it's not a stereotype. California and Texas are over 37% Hispanic. New Mexico is over 46% Hispanic. I'd say that's a pretty large Hispanic population. "whiter" states are those like North Dakota (88% white), and Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine (all over 90% white).

@slcmetalhead1 Your argument actually supports the reasons why the dream act should be passed. It does not allow for amnesty or continue to grandfather in more undocumented people. It's only for those already here who are NOT CRIMINALS! Additionally, many kids brought here by their parents are caught in a catch 22. They have no home in their birth country, no family, no cultural roots even. Many know if they try to return they can be arrested at the border and jailed.

I find this difficult to believe, at least in most cases, given the number of people who send money back to family members in Latino countries. when I lived in North Carolina, most of my neighbors were Hispanics, and many of them said they had family in Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, etc. to whom they sent money. in my experience, Hispanic immigrants who leave all roots behind are the exception, not the rule.

1)Of course is not limited to children. It's limited to undocumented high school students who may range between 16-20. Everybody pay taxes and these are used by the goverment in any way. So I can say I'm paying to support the veterans.
2) It's not to every alien. Just for those who fulfill the requisites of having a good academic standing in high school and a high GPA.

Because I work for the government and am a lower middle class white man, my children have NO advantages, they have NO food stamps, and have to pay their own way.
Because of my actions, when my children were my dependents, they are NOT ENTITLED to anything.

If all we ever deport, say to Mexico, are the criminals and violent offenders, then it does harm to Mexico, and that does not serve in the best interests of the US homeland security. However, if we deport people who are educated, skilled, politically motivated, law-abiding, and who can invest in Mexico, their knowledge of Liberty, and national pride of Mexico, fight crime, etc., then we serve the good of Mexico, and secure the US Homeland.

Wow it is amazing that when people think that they can get something for free and it suits their needs they will leave rude comments and lies and screaming its race. The argument has been that illegals do jobs that Americans don't want to do, but that argument is over 30 years old and untrue. Most illegals i know have never been to a farm or an orchard. They work with drs, nurses, Hallmark, Las Vegas convention center, factories Mc Donalds..all job that we do want and need.

Any form of amnesty given to anyone who breaks the law is a slap in the face to those who legally come here. It's a slap in the face of the tax payers who foot the bill for them already and will get to pay for this process and then we get to pay for them and their many many children. It's a slap in the face to the many legal children who are getting terrible educations in crime filled communities while criminals get a free ride. Since my kids suffer from this, they will pay for it.
