Loads of people sticking up 4 the bitch on here...look on.the site of if she shud have a state funeral n you'll see wot we all think of the bitch..n wen I say we I mean the country..
@thatcheritescot she doubled unemployment and it only took about 6 or 7 years for unemployment to halve again, its such a shame the world recession of the early 90s happened because it meant that that low unemployment was so short lived but i know she did good in the long term.
@FadeToBlack888 yes thats true. but in the long term it was a good thing to get rid of the uncompetative industrys... the uk actually did very well untill about 4 years into the blair years i think. though i do think that the blair govt covered up unemployment figures with tax credits etc
@MrTolleMolle true and that also has done more good than bad.... so are u just going to jump to another point now?
might i add that deregulation of the banks did not become a problem untill well after the turn of the century.... now what did margaret thatcher do to any industry that cost so much money? she let them die.... that is what the bankers need.if thatcherism was used to deal with the bankers they would b out of business by now
@thatcheritescot Yeh, I agree with you. I should probably say I am by no means anti thatchers ideology, just against some of her application. Also I completely agree that the banks should have been allowed to fail.
1. She had a commitment with Nato on increasing military spending (decided by the previous labour admin.)
2. Unemployment increased dramatically due to the mass privatizations (a bit too fast and radical in my opinion) and that led to many more people becoming dependent on benefits, for a while.
3. Some crap called the "Clegg Awards": Essentially a bunch of very high financial bonuses to white collar state workers, created (again) by the previous Labour administration. She was forced to commit to the payments, because refusing to assume the commitments of previous administrations would make the 4-year-term democracy unworkable.

@thatcheritescot She increased the size/role of the state.
MrTolleMolle 2 weeks ago
@MrTolleMolle some parts of the state she did. she also made it a lot smaller too. have u never heard of privatisation?
thatcheritescot 2 weeks ago
@thatcheritescot errr, look at the level of spending under Thatcher's premiership. What did it do... Rocket
MrTolleMolle 2 weeks ago
@MrTolleMolle yes but overall the state was smaller. fact
thatcheritescot 2 weeks ago
@MrTolleMolle sale of council houses. trade union reforms and privatisation reduced the size of the state more than the increase in public spending
thatcheritescot 2 weeks ago
@thatcheritescot well yeh, just massively increased the role of the banks then

Hello, she slightly increased spending because:
1. She had a commitment with Nato on increasing military spending (decided by the previous labour admin.)
2. Unemployment increased dramatically due to the mass privatizations (a bit too fast and radical in my opinion) and that led to many more people becoming dependent on benefits, for a while.
