Everyone, this is not plasma!. All he is doing is lighting a rubber tube on fire with a spark from the microwave and oxygen from the cutting torch to keep the fire going for a few seconds. If you look into an ICPOES there will be an Glass tube called the torch which uses an argon plasma to analyze samples. At the apex of the flame temperatures reach up to 60,000 Kelvin. That flame is not 9000 degrees. According to Stefan-Boltzmanns law of blackbody radiation, it should emit light of shorter wavelength if it was that hot. The flame would in that case be violett to blue in color.

I don't understand what is going on here. Plasma rocket? What I saw was nothing more than conventional flames: fuel + heat + oxygen. Notice how the thing did not fire off until he opened the door. Ostensibly he let in oxygen to support combustion. Was he piping in only O2? This looks more and more bogus to me. Plasma is ionized (plus or minus charged) gas. The microwaves probably created a current in some metal inside + either a carbon source and or some hydrogen which burned and gave off heat.

@valhala56 They have some pretty cool break things going on with fuel cells. But really the anode and cathode are too expensive. You can buy them if you'd like. Some of the better ones use paladium and platinum though, I don't think they'll be putting one in every phone. Ceramic fuel cell may work out better, but what does the cell phone hold to fuel it? Pure hydrogen? Gasoline? Propane? Alcohol? not a lot of good options to fill into your cell phone.

Yes of course oxygen is what oxidizes... lots of heat, but you have to use energy to separate the oxygen from whatever it is bonded to, and it is almost always bonded to something... hence it creates energy when it bonds... and takes more energy to break the bonds.

I seen on 60 minutes a couple of years ago a company that made a new type of fuel cell that was very dense and that they had sold and installed these fuel cells in large companies like eBay. This was a first generation product so it was very expensive only companies like eBay and Google could afford these fuel cells. The way I see it is building a device that can control or hold the Plasma ball from expanding. At 9k temp you would need a magnetic bottle to contain this Plasma ball and keep the process going as you make your steam. That's the trick is the basic design of the device and how you can keep the Plasma bottle up.

There is some interesting conceptual physics that's going on, but I have to agree with yass. From what I've seen nothing is being created, just altered. But that's what most physics/chemistry is about, changing one form of energy, which may be latent/potential, to another form, kinetic, so as to do work. That happens all the time, nothing new.
