I can do a perfect impression of Daniel here. Even more insane laughing and evil though. Hmmmhmhmhmhm....HMHMHMHMHM....HAHAHAHAAH... DOHOHOHOHOHO!!!!
@Darkczarek Well, I think the point of the whole story is that he was a naive and pure when he arrived at Alexander's place, but was then corrupted in a way he didn't even notice, and he was gradually lured into committing worse and worse cruelty. When he realises this, though, he made himself lose his memories and let the now clueless Daniel know only that he should kill Alexander.
However, in the end, Daniel gets the choice; to be cruel again, or to be selfless and redeem himself.
the BEST part in the entire game in my opinion. It's the most terrifying because it's when you can really see for the first time how crazy Dan has become.
Hot. Fucking. DAMN, do I love this game... Especially this part. I played this over the course of two Saturday nights with four other people in the room, and it was still fucking terrifying.
I know Daniel killed to protect himself. That's not right. Though, in a twisted sense of justice, he killed those who had killed. He said that the man was a cold blooded murderer. He was justifying his kills.
Yes, it's not right. But if you had a murderer before you that had killed and all you could kill him to also protect yourself, human instincts tell you to survive and do it.
Was the man a murderer? Maybe Alexander said he was. Daniel trusted him. So I can't decide if he's good or bad.
@brennymaeb Women and children were in the dungeons too. I'd strongly doubt they were all culprits of anything. It'S said in the game that some people at Brennenburg simply "disappear", taken by Mr. Face.
Daniel thought he was doing the right thing, he was scared of the shadow you know? And he just THOUGHT he could trust Alexander. So he didn't really have any choice I guess.
I believe Daniel was just dominated by fear and did what Alexander tell him to do because he promised him salvation. Daniel is just a poor guy who found himself against something bigger than him,the shadow. It's not to blame like his last document says.
Well pointed. "Fear is the oldest and strongest emotion of mankind..."
Emotions can make us skip logic, common sense. You can only imagine yourself in Daniels shoes... but who knows what you would be capable of if YOU were consumed by fear?
@xLiiLxDANNiix Excuse me? I think you mean Attractiveness.
Also: I'm asexual. I feel no sexual attraction. In Laments terms: It's impossible to be 'shallow' when you don't care about the opposite sex. Or the same sex for that matter. So don't be a bitch if you don't know all the facts. 'Kay? :D
@Shadowtamer16 Well it can also mean that you reproduce without sex or sexual organs, biologically speaking. It was just strange to see it used in your definition of the word. Both definitions are correct, however.
@goodning Well... I sort of like the normal ending?
I mean... The storytelling was really good up until the end, and they just kind of lost it. There was no real moment of catharsis for Daniel, and there needed to be. We have all this tension and internal internal conflict, and Daniel needed to have some huge moment of redemption, or some huge moment of condemnation.
Of course he knew that he had killed the people - his justification was just that the people he killed were supposedly murderers.
Additionally, Daniel only dies in the bad ending. Still, I think it's the best ending, as the others vindicate him in a way he doesn't deserve. The good ending, in particular, paints Daniel as a "good guy." The normal ending is good because he comments on his "trial by fire," and although he has sinned he has redeemed himself by killing Alexander
paint the man, cut the lines, paint the man, cut the lines, paint the man, cut the lines, paint the man, cut the lines paint the man, cut the lines, paint the man, cut the lines paint the man, cut the lines, paint the man, cut the lines paint the man, cut the lines, paint the man, cut the lines paint the man, cut the lines, paint the man, cut the lines, paint the man, cut the lines, paint the man, cut the lines paint the man, cut the lines, paint the man, cut the lines
It was interesting that Daniel was the monster... I mean, I guess I saw it coming since he "chose to forget", but the things he did just horrified me.
@Pankakeface2 he wasn't really a monster. At first, he was just trying to get away from the shadow, he didn't want to kill anyone, but the danger and Alexander's trickery forced him to. And the whole time, he thought (or at least wanted to think) that he actually sacrificed murderers and rapists, people that "weren't worthy of living".
I still don't see a reason to drink the Amnesia mixture thought, since he knew that he'd recall everything anyway, as long as he was trapped in the castle.
He chose to forget so that he would have the courage to stand up to Alexander. He knew, really, that he was no better than Alexander - that he had killed dozens of people for his own self-preservation. His crushing guilt, combined with his knowledge of Alexander's power, made it impossible for him to muster up the courage to fight him. He knew he needed to forget, figure everything out again, and, in a way, punish himself, in order to redeem himself and kill Alexander
@Synthecism For me, it seems like he drank the potion rather impulsively, just to "get away" from the nightmare that went on in there.
He didn't think he was a monster, he knew it was all Alexander's fault, it was Alexander who tricked him and it should be him who gets punished for it - the last diary entry only confirms that.
He also didn't really feel all that guilty about himself - in one of the endings, after "bringing justice" upon Alexander, he leaves the castle guilt-free.
I still believe, though, that Daniel was a truly evil person. To claim that he was "tricked" by Alexander is to exculpate him in a way that he doesn't deserve. His attempts at self-preservation caused him to kill people - not Alexander. If someone tells you "you must kill people to save yourself," and you do, you are the one who made the choice to kill those people.
@Synthecism Well, a lot of people have already died because of him before he even realized what happens, and prolonging his life was probably the only way to not "waste" their deaths. And, well, the "kill people to save yourself" thing really worked, didn't it?
@Synthecism He actually didn't know he was killing innocents, he thought it was murderers and stuffies like that. Took him a while to realise that. He could accept he was killing murderers and criminals, but not innocents, therefore turned against Alexander.
There were no good people in Amnesia's story.Agrippa also did his evil part, abandoning Alexander and leaving him to die in this world.Alexander wanted his revenge on Agrippa just like Daniel wants his own revenge. They both did all that it takes to survive but also both have tragic history behind them.Just like Alexander once said to Daniel, they are very much alike.Maybe that's why Daniel hates him so much. This is all very heavy. And very sad.I love this game.
@Synthecism probbaly had lots of replys to this already but i want a go to. i don't think he is evil. I think he REALLY wanted to stay alive, and if i remember correctly he belived the people they killed to be criminals before he knowingly killed the innocent. Also, we know that he couldedt sleep b/c of the Shadows, and you know what its like to not get enough sleep whilst been stressed for a prolonged period of time,
I agree with most of what you said, but it doesn't free Daniel from guilt. Whether or not he thought they were criminals, he still knowingly chose to take a human life. Yes, he really wanted to stay alive - and for that reason he put his own life above dozens of others. He committed evil actions, whether or not he was tricked into doing so.
@71D4K Alright, well, at this point I think we're just arguing over semantics. We can at least agree that

what Daniel did was terrible. It's true that he was manipulated into committing the acts that he did, but you're also correct in saying that he's not pure evil.
@Synthecism Hate to interject, but I'm wondering, do you believe in the death penalty? I agree that Daniel was a very horrible person, but what you just said sounds like whomever administers the death penalty to criminals is evil.
@MidnightBlackSky Well, I have mixed feelings about the death penalty, and it's irrelevant. *spoilers*
Daniel didn't kill the supposed criminals *because* they were criminals, but rather used that as justification for something he would do anyway. Don't forget the innocent little girl he hunted down and killed. It's a different matter entirely.
