Um you dont have to go to japan to get japanese games. you can buy them online. I got 3 from Ebay. It dosent really affect your ability to play the game. Its good to have Japanese games cause you can get Japan Wi-Fi Events and Masuda Method Pokemon much more easily( provided you have 2 DS's if not you'll have to get afriend to help you, trade them to an english game, or get them from GTS

The whole reason I played Japanese games was to learn. Although I actually got the Final Mix series for Kingdom Hearts. (Vocals are English, but commands/subtitles are Japanese.)

Gj with the Sleep, because it multiplies the catch rate by 2x instead of 1.5x done by Poison, Paralysis, and Burn. This was exactly how I caught my shiny Gabite. ^_^ Ty pink Jumpluff!

Ive soft reset about 1500 times and no shiny. I was going for shiny Giratina in pearl and soft reset over 3000 times. Yet no shiny.

I've been trying to catch Shiny Darkrai since yesterday and have probably spent a good 7-8 hours so far. I don't know how you caught him so fast! Almost makes me feel like I'm doing it wrong! Am I?!

Well, it was pure luck in my case, as it is always.

You probably are doing it right, disregard what you were told by that person. Shiny hunting can, and more than likely will, take a lot more than three hours of trying through normal methods before you see some results.

If you want it badly enough, then just keep at it and hope that it doesn't take months like it does for some. That's all there is to say really.

lol I've been at soft resetting since day 1 of the download and mine still hasn't shone. ah well I just gotta be super patient and keep trying all day everyday till I get it. Usually it takes me 3 to 5 days. This is taking its time thats for sure!

Yes, and no.

There is only one Darkrai at New Moon Island; you cannot download more than one Member's Card per save file anyways. That said, you can start a new save file on your game and re-download the Member's Card to catch another Darkrai, though that does mean completing the Sinnoh 'dex and releasing Cresselia each time you do this.

Yes, patience is a learned trait, it seems.

It's hard to even guess as I never really kept track.. At an estimate, I do about 5 SR's every two minutes, and my Shiny Darkrai appeared after about one-and-a-half to two hours.. That would be around 225-300 SRs, which sounds about right.

I got lucky on this one, no doubt.

if ur not lucky. over 8000. the shiny rate is 8000+ i dont remember the correct number but it was over 8000 so. it can be over 8000

1/8192 is the figure you are looking for (though remember that doesn't necessarily mean that you will meet 1 Shiny every 8192 encounters).

@ oese1996: You have just over a 0.0001% chance of finding one, so it's anyone's guess as to how many soft-resets it would take.

I've had that kind of strange luck before. I was just playing normaly and out of the blue: a shiny snowver. so I catch it and continue on my way... and then my very next encounter... a shiny medicham XD I'm not even all that fond of those two pokemon!

Gastro Acid was useful for disabling annoying or dangerous abilities (such as Pressure, to reduce the strain on Spore's PP).

Skill Swap could be used instead in the 3rd gen games, I suppose, but you'd have to switch Smeargle out and then in again after swapping to remove the ability that you just received (or else you'd be subjecting the foe to it's effects, which may not always be the best of ideas when facing a Shiny Pokémon).

I do remember, hello.

Toxic was used to reduce Smeargle's HP down to 1. In DPPt, the Poison status wears off on it's own just before fainting the Pokémon (whilst travelling about, outside of battle), so this can be used to your advantage with Endeavour.

The Roselia on Rt. 229 are often eager to help Poison my Smeargle, or failing that I bring it and my own Toxic-user into the double battle below Solaceon and do it myself =3

Endure was considered, but I wanted the move slot for something else.
