Positive effect: gays can visit their hospitalized partners when only family members would normally be admitted, and they can gain each other's insurance coverage.

How about we change the laws about hospital visitation rights, (also, you can't just "gain each others' insurance- you have to pay per person like everyone else)? There are effects beyond what you see-- just like the effects of the 70's are being felt just now in society at their greatest. Take some time to study it.

I believe you also know that the statement you made was false and meant only to be insulting otherwise you would have identified yourself. What is scary is that someone would come to a conclusion regarding something without first studying the matter as has obviously happened in this case.

Clearly you don't live in Massachusetts. It's really not all that liberal a state... more like "ultra moderate". It's just that the country has shifted so far toward the radical right wing that Massachusetts seems so liberal. Remember that MA had republican governors for about 20 years. Remember also that Romney broke the streak: polls showed that had he run for re-election, he would have got about 25% of the vote.

Actually, you're incorrect. There was a court order requiring that marriage licenses be issued to gay couples. It's just that the court order didn't order *him* to do it or enforce it. If he wanted to, he could have simply stood back and let it happen without his participation. He could not, however, have stopped it.

In 2003, Romney doubled fees for court filings (which include marriage licensing fees), professional registrations and firearm licenses. Romney also quintupled the per gallon delivery fee for gasoline (money that is supposed to be for cleaning up any leaks from underground fuel tanks). All told, the fees raised more than $400 million in their first year. Romney also "closed loopholes" in the corporate tax structure, a move that generated another $150 million in increased revenue.

Romney also restructured state debts and deferred necessary maintenance and construction work so that his successors would have to deal with some of the problems instead of him, rather than dealing with it directly, so he could claim more immediate success while ignoring the future problems he created.
