@protocol835 The Buu saga didn't happen in Japan for Kai so it's unlikely we'll get it. They never explained why they didn't do it though. Some people are saying they stopped because of the Earthquake/Tsunami situation, some say it was because they got in trouble due to some of the music in the show being plagiarized, and some are saying that DBZ was originally supposed to end before Buu but because it was popular they had to continue adding more arcs. No one knows whether this is true or not.
It's kinda the same show with some flashbacks from Dragon Ball, less filler/padding, and (un)fortunately no Buu saga. Some scenes have been digitally touched up and in widescreen. The voice actors redid their dialogue and the script is more accurate to the Japanese version. Also contrary to popular belief, Kai does have blood and swearing, just less so than the original because censor laws in Japan have changed. There's no frontal nudity in this version. The uncut DVDs are available for purchase

I have the original Dragon Ball Z funimation dvd collection set season 9, and yeah, the original Dragon Ball theme song, it's kind of boring and slow and lame. Rock the dragon which was used on the Cartoon Network with Dragon Ball Z episodes back in the early 2000s was great, I love Rock the Dragon, it's the best theme ever for Dragon Ball Z. Yeah, I guess I can see that. I'm just kind of biased towards the japanese version, which is probably why i'm not crazy about rock the dragon. Although I have to admit, it was a good idea for them to use mostly clips from the movies. It was a good way to get people hyped for all the action, without spoiling all ths fight scenes from the series, considering the really serious fights don't actually start until about halfway through the first season.

I grew up with the American version So I am biased towards it. This was the fiiiirst theme song for the American Dub. Before they decided to throw "Kai" in the title, snatch it offa Toonami and throw it on Nickelodeon.
So fitting, but if you listen from a far enough distance then it kinda sounds like " dragon dragon **** the dragon. Not hatin on this in any way at all.

This Dragon Ball Z "Kai" doesn't even deserve the title of Dragon Ball Z. It's such a bitter disappointment. Freiza sounds like an absolute douche and Piccolo just sounds awful. They should've just kept everything as it was. And the opening is the worst, it looks all flashy and polished, but the show looks the same. This generation of kids will have no understanding of how epic this show truly is.

This Dragon Ball Z "Kai" doesn't even deserve the title of Dragon Ball Z. It's such a bitter disappointment. Freiza sounds like an absolute douche and Piccolo just sounds awful. They should've just kept everything as it was. And the opening is the worst, it looks all flashy and polished, but the show looks the same. This generation of kids will have no understanding of how epic this show truly is.
