  • Nice job of going it alone, boyo...just nice.

  • You got soul man! A job well done.

  • @joenvernaillen Cheers!!

  • Very good!

  • @pazgabriel Thanks, man!!

  • Thanks, Krissy! Good luck with your song. Yep, "back in the day" this kind of songs were sung "different every time." I have 5 different versions of this on my channel! It is kind of like a Rap or Blues where each person can do it their own way each time.

  • very goog performance!

  • gracias, mi amigo!

  • my school chorus is gonna sing this but it's a little bit different

  • the spouters inn on moby dick.. is it still here today ?

  • From what I have heard, Melville based the Spouter Inn on contemporary taverns in New Bedford, however there was no specific one. I was just in New Bedford recently, and the same question was on my mind; that is the answer I got. Another time, I was in New Bedford at night, stumbling around hungry and wishing I'd stumble upon some such inn, but I never found anything! the town is very poor in terms of restaurants and taverns nowadays.

  • you sing well, did you have a drink first cause booze an songs go togather ...lol

  • Thanks. They go together really well in the minds of the singer and other drinkers, but sometimes not so well for other non-drinkers who are listening! :)

  • lol thats very true, as with the spouters inn what i mentioned before, i live in uk know very little about new bedford up that way...i bet most actors in that film moby dick would be dead now or very old as it was 50 yrs ago long time huh ...

  • I really wish I could thumbs-up this...

  • I learned a couple more...

"I put my hand upon her breast... she said 'young man, I like that best!'"

"I put my hand upon her thatch... she said 'young man that's my main hatch!'"

"In two weeks time I was badly bent... and off to sea I sadly went."

  • good!

  • @jpgathman

she said that she'd be true to me ... but spent me money fast and free... Now When I got back home from sea a soldier had her on his knee...

  • A catchy shanty, thanks Ranzo.

  • Heard a pastiche once

She made of me a proper chump

Her hash was henna and oil of sump

I'll go no more a-raving with you fair maid!

    etc

    LOL

  • huh! Very interesting little verse! Thanks for sharing that.

  • I learnt to sing this at school, a clean version!

  • ha, cool! Whereabouts was that school, if you don't mind telling? It is a very catchy melody.

  • Liverpool UK.

  • Ah! Not surprising :)

  • I like the little whale on your shirt

  • Thank you -- that's "Pucky the Whale"!!!

  • haha. that's cool.

  • I was looking for this to illustrate for somebody what Lord Byron used as the basis for his famous poem.

I have enjoyed your rendition! And good luck with your chanteys project!

  • Grandissimo ! 5* !

  • This is my all-time favorite sea chantey (I'm currently learning it on my harmonica). You give a damn fine performance of it. Good show!

  • I've really dug listening to the songs you've posted on here. You seem to really love the music. The timing is spot on. My favorite experience with this song is having a group of 16 year old Canadian sailors sing this to me at the end of one of my chantey shows. They sang a verse that goes "i placed my hand upon her..." and rhymes with "she said hey now that's my main hatch."

  • I've heard that verse :)

If we add all the verses like that, we could make this 3 times as long!
