Companies all seem to be shooting for high top speed these days and some have exceeded what 962s were setup to reach at Le Mans........but Veyrons, etc, are not real race cars like the Dauer. No comparison at all. Even the lightest comparable street car is 500-700 lbs heavier and the Veyron is about 2200 POUNDS heavier!! And the 962 has the very rare capability of being able to run around tracks like Le Mans for 24 hours, hitting 240-250 mph lap after lap. Try that in a street car lol..
The Dauer 962LeMans reached 404km/h at the VW test track in a officle observed test, it was cheaper and much quicker than the McLaren F1 but the english speaking world ignored it. The Dauer 962LeMan is the reason why the Veyron reached 407km/h... The biggest car collector in the world the Sultan of Burnai bought 6 Dauer962 LeMans, in my eyes the best ever road legal car made till today.
Dauer Porsche 962 have power enough, very good aerodynamic and, with proper gearbox and in a circuit with right road long enough isn't impossible to do it. Many years ago Lemans hadn't Mulsanne Straight with more than five kilometers without chicanes, where the most powerful cars,as Peugeot prototypes, did get speeds as 405 km/h ? So why the Dauer Porsche wouldn't capable to make the same ?
Thanks for posting. it's really hard to find rare footage of any Group C car, especially these ultra rare Dauers. They were the kings of there era and always will be a car and force that everyone benchmarks themselves to.
Thans for your comment. But maybe I'll show some day what kinda of real slow demonstrations we had in the last 15 years at Norisring. What Boutsen and Welti showed was better than nothing. At least as they shift down through the gears it sound almost like Group c racing.
Everybody is saying that this car can beat the Bugatti Veyron. That may be true and may not. The Dauer Le Mans is a track based car, therefore cannot be compared to a road-going hypercar.
Part of the requirement for racing in Group C was to produce road going cars alongside the racers. There are 13 Dauer 962's that are road worthy in europe, they have reverse gears, AC, full leather interiors, bespoke luggage and storage as well as de-tuned engines for emmissions and noise regulations. Areguements abound over whether hey should be compared, but I guess "on the road is on the road".
Sorry to correct you, but I think you mix something up here:
The real Group C cars from 1982 to 1993 were pure prototypes. There were no road cars needed to get the homologation for racing.
The Dauer 962 GT however was adapted from the Porsche 962C in order to get this car into the new GT1 regulations in 1994. And yes, in order to do this road cars had to be built.
I think one of the last went to some shiek, and actually reached 410 km/h topspeed.
No arguement here, the southern hemisphere doesn't get much exposure to the LM style racing that goes on in the rest of the world and I'm still a little ignorant on some of the specifics.
Likely the Sultan of Brunei has a couple. I emailed Dauer a few years ago and got the number 13 at the time but its possible they put out a couple more, as for the top speed, I want to believe its true, there is a lot of literature to support the claim.
wish they showed on the bac stretch were they are at top speep

sometimes i really feel sad that i wasn't born 20 years ago. i'm not a fan of the Audi R10 or R15. these were true race cars.

Dauer that reached 400+ km/h was 3.0L turbo 730 hp car. And I've heard that there's a 900hp version of Dauer, and it should be even faster!.

nah they actually had some with 1100hp dude

I don't believe that it was 400 km/h.

Of course not in this demonstration. However the Dauer 962 is capable of 400k's.

He probably thinks that Veyron is the first car to go pass 400 km/h...
Of course, I could be wrong.

The Dauer's were always my favorite iteration of the 956/962. Saw the FAT LeMans winner at Monterey Historics in 98. Nice video.

Good job Dauer found a loophole in the rules at the time so that the Porsche 962 could race one last time at Le Mans.
