  • I've had this drug twice for medical procedures and let me tell you it completely removed all of my anxiety. I'd like to take it when my anxiety is too severe to sleep at night... but both surgeries no one warned me they were going to use versed. To me having zero anxiety was absolute bliss. I wish I could always feel that way, minus the drugged goofyness.

  • This drug is not safe. It is given without consent or inproper consent in many cases. It is used for staff convience. 10-14% suffer long term psychiatric problems. Don't agree? Do the research. It messes with gaba and serotonin chemicals that regulate mood. Due to this PTSD, depression, anxiety are common. Nasty unpredictable. Who knows the long term effect in children. Take it and your life may never be the same.

  • I have researched this drug and also have first hand experience with this drug. The drug is often used in medical settings without consent. !0 - 14% of users are suffering long term effects mostly psychiatric. Do the research. Hope it isn't you or your loved one.

  • After extensive research on Versed and Propofol, I can tell you that I do not believe the drugs are safe for use in any situation. The side effects are awful on at least 20 per cent of the patients. Medical patients for colonscopies are not told the side effects, and many are suffering with memory lost or countless problems with loss of ligaments, cartilage or collagen. Why were they ever approved by the FDA? Can you say pharmacy and medical lobbyists?

  • I agree. Have also researched this drug.

  • THIS is NEWS?

Use of midazolam to subdue psych patients in a state of acute disturbance is common practice all over the world. It's not even that unpleasant - in fact midazolam makes you quite dreamy. You think it doesn't happen in your area? Just ask your local paramedic or emergency department doctor.

The guy was clearly having a psychiatric disturbance - using injectable sedation is perfectly appropriate, and the alternatives are worse. Many police forces would be a lot less kind.

  • what if the patient wasn't unruly - told ems he'd had a few drinks and took a xanax prescribed for anxiety - appeared to be in an altered state but not unruly - is a 5mg shot of versed a good idea?

  • if the xanax had kicked in, there should be no need for additional sedation. Versed is used for the aggitated and the aggressive. It's no use for an "altered state" . Besides, if he's talking calmly to EMS, there's no need for forced sedation.

  • Versed or Midazolam should be banned from use on humans!! This drug causes PTSD, permanent memory loss and severe anxiety. ALWAYS refuse this, it does harm and NO good for the patient!!

  • dont talk shit u dont know,i had to have midazolam when i had 2 have 6 drainahe tubes out after heart surgery!,and dam it was PAINFUL,i can remember the feeling,THANK the LORD i cant remember the image..it was horryfying.

  • With Midazolam, you should have had a "black hole" in your memory. You should not be able to remember ANYTHING! That's the whole point of Midazolam. They can let you scream and writhe in pain, fail to give adequete pain meds, laugh at your discomfort, make fun of you and your body, and YOU, my friend will remember nothing. No pain, no humiliation, nothing. However, you ARE awake and able to tell all your secrets and live through the horror. Versed is bad.

  • This is a very unintelligent response, obviously from someone who does not know what they are talking about. As an anesthesia provider who uses this drug "like water" on a daily basis I can assure you that this is just ridiculous..... These things do not happen in any of the hospitals that I have worked at. These drugs are safe when used in the hands of experienced medical providers. All drugs have side-effects. Don't pretend to be an expert on something you know nothing about.

  • You are a fucking bone head.

  • You are correct nybabe. This drug causes permanenet cognative harm and something like PTSD in approximately 10% of people who are given it. Long term damage results. Unfortunately for us, the medical community sees too much upside for its use.

  • ECHO CHAMBER

  • When is society going to stop pretending and simply take these people, put a boot on their neck and then pump a few rounds in their skulls. It's the only solution to this problem that will work...and quite frankly, what they deserve.

Stop arresting them. Stop trying to punish them. Stop all the worthless attempts to rehabilitate people who do what they do for no other reason than they are evil.

Just get rid of them....in the cheapest, most direct way possible.

  • They have other drugs that do not cause the person to be in a psychotic fugue state and do not have amnesia as a feature. This drug also causes long term anxiety disorders such as PTSD. Is this supposed to be humane? Use Valium or something else besides this poison called Versed. Same family of drugs, but without the severe side effects.

  • Valium and versed are from the same family (both are benzodiazapines). The problem with valium is that it's no good for imtramuscular injection. The side effects would be similar, I would suspect.

  • Valium is from the same family as Versed = Heroin is from the same family as a poppy seed bagel. Versed is a BAD drug. They can use something else. The AMNESIA is what they are after to cloak there own actions. The anti-conflict part of Versed assures that the subject will tell do and say whatever they are told. Perfect. For law enforcement. Not for subjects. Use something else!

  • Working in EMS, I do not see a problem here except for worrying about the safety of medics.

  • well in my eyes it was that or get shot and what for, being an unstable person that would have been a real shity way to go. he should be greatful the 1 he didnt catch a bullet and 2 he didnt get charged.

  • I think this idiot is talking about HOSPITALS using this poison! Hospitals are notoriously using this drug to force patients to endure torture. Want to bet it's being used in Gitmo?

  • This is outrageous! If they want to sedate people they can use something that doesn't cause amnesia and a zombie like cooperation. This drug can cause a "paradoxical" reaction and make the person become MORE AGITATED! Do you really believe that cops will only call for Versed if you are out of control? You think that an EMT will disobey a direct order from a police officer? Excited delirium isn't a recognised diagnosis anyway. As for "get Versed or get shot;" stupid analogy.

  • Hell yes an EMT will tell an LEO to take a hike if they try to give them a medical order that is not in the patient's interest.

  • okay....they are worried about his medical condition. The idiot did not take his meds like he was supposed to...which "caused him" to pick up two sharp objects and charge at the police, he is lucky he didn't get shot.

  • This is used all over the world. NYC medics can give versed if they determine that an individual poses a threat to him/herself or others. Medics don't give Versed or any other Benzos(Sedatives)just because the police have a hard time arresting someone. This news story makes it seem as we're tranquilizing humans like tranquilizing elephants. Its a carefully carried out medical procedure.
