  • Very informative. Did a clutch job on a 98 Ranger last year and wished I watched this video before I started! The quick connect was the style without the lip on the end, so I had to push it in, and push it in farther with a screwdriver like you showed before it came free. I was getting pretty nervous!

  • i myself have done the torch "fix" on the plastic slave cylinder line

getting something apart on a truck that is more than 20 years old can at times be really tough.

at some point i just cut the line so i could get the tranny down, I faught it but it didn't wish to give in.

    good vid thanks

  • @piglett2195 The connector can often get corroded or even clogged with road dust. Getting it loosened up first may help, trying to get debris out and loosen up the plug a bit BEFORE trying to release it. One thing that does not work is pulling on the connector while trying to get it to unlock, the tabs just dig in harder and harder. Thanks, Gary

  • stupidest Idea they ever came up with, old clutch fork was much easier.

  • Why does Ford insist on using "quick" disconnects on everything???? I guess they're too good to use a simple "screw on" connection any more.

  • @happy543210

I can't speak for Ford, or GM or Dodge as they have all used them, or anything beyond the clutch system but I think it has to do with buying the parts PRE-BLED as sub assemplies and then they just install and make the final connection on the line. Gary

  • @perfectionclutch excuse me this guy is trying to sell me this truck and it has an 8inch crack in the slave cylinder? What kind of things does this mess up?

  • @freddythestandard An 8" crack, the fluid should be all gone, leaked out. Is it a plastci body slave cylinder, are you seeing the mold line as a crack? Gary

  • @perfectionclutch oh sorry we had a miscommunication, there is no crack but he says he needs either a slave cylinder or an arm extension? not quite sure what he means. but what can this affect he said hes been driving it like that for a year? should i buy it or should I avoid it?

  • @freddythestandard Freddy, this really isn't enough info or description to advise you with correctly. Best thing would be to call us, tell us the application and describe what the issue is, then we can suggest. The real problem is frequently mis-diagnosed and someone tries to figure a way around a problem that they haven't figured out. Gary

  • these guys are out to sell and create fear lol sales pitch is "you cant get the tranny out!!!!" if you cant get that line to seperate just diconnect it from the master cylinder by removing the roll pin if the line is flexible just be careful its wild they size that line so that its not long enough to keep it installed and justdrop the tranny they make that line 6 inches too short every time its a raquet but theres ways around it but if to just have to have a new connection listn to this guy

  • @perfectionclutch im replacing a slave cylinder on a 1986 pontiac fiero 2m4 i cant get the line off of the slave its rusted on pretty good..will heating it with a torch help?

  • I removed the line easily from the old slave cylinder but now I cannot get the line to snap into the new slave cylinder. The line will not go in far enough to snap in. What am I doing wrong?

  • That burned up fitting at 4:40...so did reheating it and sliding it back on frickin work or what?

  • @waterwart

No idea, we found the part as you saw it. I think corrosion from the road salts or sprays used to melt snow and ice can cause some corrosion to occour in the connector, it is made of aluminum and the spring lock is steel. One thing that I have not seen work ever is brute force. That damages the connectors. Gary

  • i have hours trying to get that apart....quick my ass...freekin ford

  • Thanks for this video changing transmission in a 2000 chevy pickup i fought that slave cylinder line all day this video saved the day. Thanks again!

  • This new improved style connection didn't work on my 96 Chevy C1500, line popped off while driving one day later. Could not get the line to clip back in, so car was towed home. Thankfully the old parts were still on the work bench and the OEM connector was there. Pull the tranny again, reuse the old connector and the truck is working one year later with no problems. New and improved doesn't always mean better

  • In case you lost the clip...Just call Perfection Tech Line 1 800 258 8312 option4 or 1 843 326 55 44 option 4. Perfection team will overnight a clip for you.

Remember: The clip design is to improve the service capability and timing without using any special tools. Do NOT remove the clip to connect a line.

  • what happeens if you lost the clip?

  • I actually worked with this guy before, I has shot some video for him at the perfection shop a few years ago, I don't know if they ever used my video I shot for them though. He put a clutch in my 1999 Miata for me, and taught me a thing or two about clutch assembly, very smart fellow he is. It was cool seeing this video. Once again he is teaching me how to remove and re attach my part for my Miata.

  • @cervelos1 lucky you

  • That was a great video! I have an 88 Ranger that I need to remove the transmission and was unsure on how to get the Hydraulic clutch line out of the transmission. I'm much more confident now! Thank you Perfectioncluth!

  • Very instructive. About to purchase 1995 F-150 inline 6 for my son. Clutch goes to floor and shifts (stiff) (140K mi.)

  • Thank you much! This video gives me a very good understanding on how this works, trying to replace my line from 1996 ford bronco.

  • I will make sure to share to my friends mechanics ...nice job!
