Oh so when the person or bird is alive, but hurt really badly, like thebird at the beginning and like Nick, then it changes into the other thing that no one can see. But when the bird really died, then the invisible thing isn't there, so that means if Nick really did die then the invisible thing wouldn't be there. Just like the old guy, he was in the hospital bed but that didn't necessary mean he was dead, so he turned invisible. It all mkaes sence now although it is a bit confusing!!
