Projection from the narcissist - and the wash of their own dysfunction as P/doc describes. I needed to step back from the N's influence and the blindsiding of their many words and their deceptions (about themselves) to see how that person was making me feel about myself. The words/behaviour from the N were sweet at first but afterwards, after the wash of them, I was left feeling truly nauseated. One needs to step back to see what the victim (me in this case) was feeling/sensing intuitively.
Thank you so much for this explaination. It describes perfectly what I've been going through and trying to put into words without sounding crazy. After studying NPD and other character disorders for some time, I started to think I was the either going crazy, or I was the one with NPD. Your description of projection, especially shame and devaluation helps clarify things just that much more for me.
@PsychDoctorate: When you mentioned places where they feed you special attention, what are some examples? I assume cults would be one of them, but I'm sure there are a lot more I've never heard of.
@jitterbuggogoboy High end restaurants, resorts and any place you would expect to find people pleasers are places wher you will find you are receiveing special attention. Spa's also cater to this level of self entitlement. Any place you can think of that provides a high level of personalized service you would pay extensively for.
@jitterbuggogoboy From my own experiences, I would have to say yes. And in a way yes you are getting your moneys worth, if you want to feel pumped up.

@PsychDoctorate But I guess you'd be getting your money's worth, right? So I assume the managers of such swanky locations would be the narcissists?
