@iDJFlaco Photoshop. I've been using Adobe software since Adobe came out. I'm kinda loyal to them, considering I've always produced a top quality product with no problems whatsoever throughout the years. There is only one teeny tiny detail in photoshop that I would like changed, but it's so minor, it's not even worth mentioning. lol. CorelDRAW is a good one, too... I'm told, but I've also been told it's not as convenient as PS. I hope I helped in some way.

@DeSilverware CorelDRAW is more like Illustrator combined with InDesign, not really as good as either of them, but as a combined app a little more convenient for many. PHOTO-PAINT is their raster image software more comparable to Photoshop. Again, not quite as fully featured, but still not too bad. They kind of killed themselves by sticking with their hideous overly complex UI designs and ignoring the Mac, considering at the time DTP took off the Mac was THE platform of choice.

synfig studio is way over complicated , and needs completely redone from the ground up . I have used ton of 2D animation software , and the best are not free Toon Boom Studio, Flash CS 5.5 , Anime Studio ...

Now for fee 3D animation software Blender 3D is really good.

@pithw HELL YEAH!! being in Graphic designing is like being a tech version of a Rock/Rap star but thats only if you get signed to a very good company like the one from Gears of War 3 they were a very low key company only known around there town and only a couple of industries used there work now that they got BUZZ from Gow3 almost every game studio you can think of has sent them a contract and money on doing something for them so yea G.D pays good only if you get into a good company :)

@lbrty4all Gimp withoout doubt., Use a photo of yourself and draw yourself. There are plenty of  tutorial of Gimp, but even photoshop tutorials are good enough as it is a similar setup to Gimp. You might say they copied gimp.

@englishmovielover lol i think you got your facts mixed up there buddy .... Gimp is actualy a blatant copy of PS... The first Gimp version was released 6 years after Photoshop 1.0

I guess gimp is ok if you just want to play around with pictures for fun but if you plan on doing professional graphic design please do yourself a favor and use Adobe products.

@VuurwerkFan12 Yes I like pencil. But Gimp can also do what Pencil does with many more tools. However Pencil without doubt is easier. I would try Gimp later though. as it ihas much more tools to use.. try also synfig studio of which is also open software and free of charge, and again plenty of tutorials here on youtube to get you started. I am still a beginner, but loving the learning process.

@lovergirlx2x As mentioned Gimp, pencil and synfig studio. Pencil is the easiest to start with. Search opensoftware with gimp and pencil. With linux you have no problem in getting such software. Inkspot is another software worth getting. All free with no bull. In other words open source.

DUDE you didn't mention Photoscape! Free photo effects program. If you use it for a while like I have, you pretty much won't ever need photoshop again. But I still use Gimp. =P
