cash in on the war boom?? this serial has nothing to do with the war! as a matter of fact from the way i hear it they (republic) wanted nothing to do with the war origin (steve rogers) so they make him a distric attorney
marvel was very foolish in letting this serial be made like this. they shoulda offered another character instead of captain america. the origin is all wrong and he has no shield, cap did have a gun in the old timely comics tho. notice all the republic serials with DC characters (batman-superman-captain marvel) are all correct with the comics origins.
@regvision This was made in 1944. Marvel literally only had two other characters, and were hoping to cash in on the war boom that made him so popular.
It makes sense when you think about it. But yeah, this movie blows.
The poor quality of this film has to be excused because this is probably the only print available. I have the video of this issued by a cheap distributor. The chapters are not linked up in order and the film starts with Chapter 8. The serial was released in 1944 and re-released in 1953 as "The Return of Captain America." The famous Republic station wagon did double duty both in the serials and to transport actors to location.
I have never seen this version before. I do remember the 1960's version and the 1970's version. Reb Brown is awesome as Cap and he looked great. The cartoon was great also.
Made in 1950,the last of their serial efforts, cheaply done.
