What type of gas tank does this engine require? I doubt the original gas tank could be used without serious modifications. Internal fuel pump, vapor return lines, sealed tank requirements.....are all issues that must be addressed.
Also the exhaust system. No doubt the exhaust would need catalytic converters that require special floor pan modifications to accommidate the new high heat exhaust.
@1971SuperLead the emission legal is for newer cars. dont forget that all this motor has to pass for emissions is what that vehicle originally had to pass.
@6SpeedSilverado I'm not talking about it needing to meet emission standards or even being legal. To run this engine requires a special gas tank. Does the engine come with a special gas tank? How about the evaporative canister, computors, exhaust sensors and all that stuff.
I think it's a cool engine, but buying the engine is just half the cost involved in having a green machine.
@1971SuperLead ah, im guessing you will need a fuel cell for a new fuel pump. the use of a program like efi live, you can dissable the emissions sensors, and some others.
@6SpeedSilverado The computer needs the emissions sensors. A custom gas tank will be expensice unless there is some modern vehicle that has a gas tank that fits in your old car for you need a special gas tank to run fuel injection.
@1971SuperLead custom tuning can get rid of the emissions sensors. fuel cells aren't that expensive, all you have to do is measure to find a spot it will fit.
@6SpeedSilverado The idea behind installing this engine is to run a clean machine. That means all the emissions systems in place. Why buy this green engine if you are not going to go green with it? Why throw away all that stuff you just paid a lot of money for? This means a modern fuel tank, catalytic converters and all vapor control devices and emission sensors in place. If all you want is fuel injection...then go buy a some old Hilborns and convert them to EFI.
@1971SuperLead im pretty sure this motor with the emissions crap removed will still be cleaner then a carbed motor. heck you can run cats without the 02 sensors. i already stated you would need a fuel cell.

A lot of work for a few extra m.p.g..
