U know. I agree with you about Hasbro. Sometimes i feel like they just throw things out there without doing any research. but on ocassion they get it right. I cant believe how bad galvatron was so awful. Hope youve done review of the rest of the generations line. Cant wait for your opinion. Thanks for showing me how to transform Scourge. Was unboxing him as you were tranforming him. Now for Warpath.
One of the very first toys I bought during my life as an adult collector was Universe Galvatron. As soon as I got it out of the package my gf said "Let me transform it!" and ripped the turret off. I had to watch three YouTube videos before I could figure out how to transform it. One of those was your original review of this toy back in 08 or so, so the poor design of Universe Galvatron got you a new viewer!
i recently got the e-hobby version of Galvatron and thankfully it has solved some of the QC issues and didnt fall apart once (left arm is real loose though) Shame it took so long to sort out a fundamentally flawed toy. Loved the review.
Scourge and Unicron have facial hair because bad guys in the 80's were required to grow goatees. I think it was an evil union thing. Galvs was bat shit crazy so he did not need one and Cyclonus was not a complete jerk like scourge or their master Unicron. Only the REALLY evil guys got beards. Animated Megs carried on the tradition because he was evil enough to warrant facial hair as well.
In the end it's all about pure evil. You had to have real motive to get the evil hairstyle.
@ExaggeratedElegy I'm not so sure on that one... ZZ Top members have excessively long beards and that indicates a lack of grooming. All evil hairstyles (save the mad scientist crazy hair) tend to be rather well kept. Often they seem to care about their image in order to deceive people and there is a certain degree of vanity that goes hand in hand with evil beards. Look at some of the epic villains of the 20's. You won't always see facial hair but when you do, it is well maintained.
Love the review! Love the figures! But dude lol......say "fishts" like...only once or twice. When you keep using the same "cute" play on a word over and over again....well.....it just kinda starts to sound stupid...or like you have a speech impediment. Just a critique! I still love what you do lol.
I tried doing a review of Scourge, but it ended up about 20 minutes just on its own... So I was thinking I might have to re-do it. He is a simply gorgeous piece of work. I love my Cyclonus too. I never bothered with Universe Galvatron, although I would be interested in getting hold of another Cybertronian Megatron and repainting him. I feel the generatons Megatron is a mold far better suiting the character. Great stuff as always George. Glad you enjoyed yourself at our party.
Gerard! Can't get over Scourge; he's one of those toys they clearly poured every ounce of expertise and enthusiasm into. Galvatron...Galvatron is a classic example of a nice idea utterly ruined by interference from the more corporate echelons of Hasbro; he wa soriginally supposed to be Voyager class, which likey would've solved most of his problems. He was also going to be a triple changer, with a mode more reminiscent of his old static cannon G1 form. Elements of it are still...
There they are just standing in a row. Small ones, big ones, some as big as your head...Galvs may be the small coconut of the bunch, but he's certainly crazy as one. Speaking of crazy...Call my loopy, but I actually love the Galvatron figure. The tank mode pretty much represents its G1 form well. I mean, what's the G1 form? A cannon on treads? So, basically...A tank? Sure why not, works for me. I also love the ssymmetry of the arms in the bot-mode. It's has a sort of mutated look about it....
@pathosis Continued. Also, I love that curious, hook-like bit that you can flip out on his shoulder. What's up with that? As for Cyclonus, I have the Japanese version in the lavender colors with randomly chromed wings. Still, he looks fairly faithful to the animated model. Although, I believe variation you have is dead-on in that regard. He's such a cute, evil, purple, demon bunny-bot. As for the jet-mode, I think Barutazaru said it best. It's not a jet, it's a Cyclonus. I can get behind that
@pathosis Continued. On to Scourge. I don't have that figure. From what I've seen, he's an ingenious piece of toy craftsmanship. That arm transformation is quite clever. I rather like the updated flight-mode he was given. Next to Glavs, they both look nice together in their vehicle forms. Both loosely based off of real vehicles, with some minor weapon modifications :P Albeit, this makes Cyclonus's more fictitious alt mode stand out a tad when lining the trio together.
@pathosis And in closing, on subject to Scourge. It's ALWAYS bothered me. Why didn't Hasbro, or who ever was in charge of the character and toy designs, make the Sweeps a different color from Scourge? To me, for a number of reasons, I can see this being a wise choice. They did it with the Seekers. Why not the Sweeps?
He's not awful, and I do think people give him an unfair rap. Aesthetically, he is the best designed G1 style Galvatron we've had to date; adore his robot mode. It looks like there were a number of potential gimmicks or alternate modes for the Galvatron toy that were never implemented; he has all sorts of redundant bits and pieces throughout his body :)
I don't like the Galvatron tank mode. BRICK! The robot mode waist is awkwardly thin and he has retarded block legs. I can see why you like it but you are focusing on the positives and not the negatives of both modes. I need that SCOURGE!!! He will make my world go round again!
Hey George, loved the vid! Would you like to get a little freudian about it and suggest that Cyclonus is the maccisictic herald of Unicron what with his relationship with Galvatron? haha
Regarding the whole "2 cyclonuses" thing, supposedly he was supposed to have his own "sweeps" in some early version of the script or something, but it got pulled....and somehow one ended up in the final animation by accident.
This was THE quintessential Herald review. It's right up there with my "How to transform Galvatron" video (only done after my Galvy was too broken up to really keep anymore anyhoo).
I love Scourge & Cyclonus. I will never part with them. They are truly sexulent.
I have a question for your Q&A: Rock Lords. Like or hate, do you own any and what do you think of them? (also: GoBots).
Heya Mat! Many thanks; I suppose I've got to cap the whole thing off with a Unicron review, but I haven't figured out a way of holding it up in front of the camera that doesn't look silly and awkward XD
Ah, Rock Lords...I'll give a full run down of my opinions when I get round to doing my Q and A vid :)
i really like galvatrons universe toy, has it's flaws granted but thats what happens when you try and shoehorn a voyager design into a deluxe mold, dont work, nope siree, redesign or go home
but still i enjoy it
always loved the idea of heralds for old cron, specially in the armada/energon comics where he had the likes og G1 galvatron thunderwing and bludgeon in his ranks
then Galvatron went toe to toe with Armada Megatron
When it comes to knowing mythos & intellectual side of Transformers you always hit that Hammer right on the Head George, Fantastic review on the Heralds. I will say Galvatron is a massive disappointment and should have been made a larger toy, Cyclonus is excellent despite the BIS 2-Pack toy having shit plastic & Scourge I have yet to purchase.
Galvatron does get the shitstorm as the worst universe/classics toy. I really like him too but its hard to stand by the transformation. A mega would of been a dream.
I too got the same feeling about scourge that I did about lugnut. I havent found a scourge yet : ( The hunt continues!

It is such a pity; if they'd gone ahead with the original voyager scale design, I'm sure most of its issues would've been resolved.
