  • love the black nail polish on Robert :3 and the candles and black curtains are a nice touch!

  • Interesting to see them without the steampunk garb. I love how completely this band commits to its image, whatever the image is at the time!

  • I LOVE their Steampunk stuff, but I like their older stuff so much better.

  • I almost saw them in Portland, OR a while back but I waited too long to get a ticket. T_T definitely wont be making that mistake again.

  • The singer is so... hot.

  • i LOVE THEM !!! NATHANIEL IS SEXY <3

  • Oh!! Soon the be released DVD! When is it out?

  • How many other songs were videotaped at this session, Maxmin? I would love to see more.

  • @wynternight777 hear hear!

  • that performance was beyond amazing. Robert's voice is flawless.

  • Love this band....but well to me. The girl's Screeching ruins the song.....

  • @Sabanack beg to differ.

  • What is the song about??

  • OH my godness, his voice is GORGEOUS!

  • @AspergirlSithstress the technical term is "sex on toast" ;)

  • @rkt739 The technical term is I JUST MELTED INTO A PUDDLE IN MY SHOES...

  • they're wonderful!!

  • How are you actually related to the band Maxmin?

  • @whowantsabighug Well, i've been working with them for about 10 years ago. At one point my girlfriend at the time Madame Archel was in the band, and now my younger brother Nathaniel Johnstone is in the band.

  • I adore this song, my fave AP song for sure!

  • lovely song ^^

  • It's really funny see this group before that they adopted the steampunk culture XD

  • I used to be really into the whole steampunk thing a few years ago.. and it's kind of heartbreaking seeing how popular it's become.

  • but yet there are still alot of people who dont know what it is

  • @ChildsPrison At least it's still not widely known in mainstream culture, which is still fine with me... The moment that Kesha or some other mainstream artists gets into it, however, I'm pretty much out...

  • @ChildsPrison How's that heartbreaking? I'm not trying to sound persecutive, i'm just wondering why you think that something you used to be a part of has expanded? It's not like the Steampunk subculture will become mainstream, it's too anti-establishment!

  • any gothic guys watching this i could use some company tonight

  • anyone actually want to date a gothic girl if yes than msg

  • Was the DVD ever actually released? If so, where could I find a copy?

  • Wow, being a post-steampunk abney park fan captain robert needs spikes in his hair to be awsome

  • @KnollDark And Nathaniel needs his famous falls...

  • @CybeRogue23 He isn't in Abney Park at this time.

  • @whowantsabighug correct me if I'm wrong, Peter, but I think the guitarist here is Rob Hazelton.

  • It's also a subculture ... now I'm refraining from the urge to use profanity at a person too enamoured of themeselves to have been able to give someone else the right to enjoy a genre in WHICHEVER way they want ... personally I like the music and also steampunk so please in future remember:

NO ONE CARES whether you like them or steampunk ... remove the high horse from your arse and either enjoy it or DON'T WATCH IT

  • hey, NYCPoopHero... just go where you belong, why do you hurt yourself listening to this? Need some attention maybe? go and bother your careless parents and let other enjoy this beauiful art !

  • It started as a literary genre, and expanded into... other stuff.

Though I can't see the logic behind you posting your comment on a video intended for fans of steampunk in the first place.

  • Literary genre only? Tell that to the 1,394 people who attended SteamCon last weekend for literature AND art AND music AND costuming AND gadgets AND history AND engineering AND MORE.

  • I love them anyway they are lol. Goth or steampunk! They are awesome!

  • Good stuff. I do prefer them in their current steampunk incarnation however. There's about five bazillion goth bands out there, but damned few steampunk ones. Besides, they seem to be having more fun and not taking themselves so seriously as a steampunk band.

  • Bauhaus cover/remix? It goes all middle eastern/ egyptian style. I like it.

  • Live in studio? Isn't that an oxymoron?

  • Not exactly. Live in concert is when they're recorded at a concert. Live in studio is when they perform the full song, instead of in pieces that are potentially tweaked, in the studio.

  • I thought these guys were steampunk.

  • And they are steampunk, this was back when they were goth.

  • Espectacular!!!

  • They were and more than likely always will be an absolutely amazing band.

    one of my favorite bands.

  • Wow, i've never seen them like this. They look and sound way cooler as a Steampunk band.

  • Stunning

  • Cant help but think that they could be Vampires.. lol.. :)

  • The music is so friggin haunting! Totally diff from what i normally hear...welcome change..

  • they look 300x better dressed steam punk!

  • You are absolutely right!

  • Batness is right steampunk wasn't musically defined til they started dressing like final fantasy characters. Frankly I thought it woulda sounded faster and louder this is just goth with a pulse...

  • They considered themselves gothrock, and now they consider themselves Steampunk. That's about all it comes down to.

  • Interesting video! I like the sound of this song with this lineup. I see that only 2 of the members in this video are still in the band.

  • Pffft who cares what genre they are -coughcoughsteampunk-

    Just enjoy the good music.

  • They are now a Steampunk band, but when this video was shot 5 years ago they were very much a Goth Rock band.

  • @maxmin Wow... This exact same argument has presented itself on every single video of pre-steampunk AP I have seen posted by you or anyone else. Don't people do any research before making an ass out of themselves?

  • @maxmin I consider Steampunk to be a part of goth. A beautiful interesting one. The band matured, but I still think they are pretty goth.

  • i love this song..

  • Will someone explain to me why this band is considered to be Steampunk? I dunno, I dont get it.

Im surprised Rasputina has never been called Steampunk or anything like that.

  • It's more their image and visuals that have gotten them considered "steampunk." However they have a far more gothic appearance in this video, but it's a year old.

Rasputina does come off as "steampunk," but they prefer the term "cello rock." It's just the nature of sub-genres lol.

  • go to abney park's site and you be the judge of their steampukness

  • Yup. It's a style thing. I went to their website and i was all like "TOO MANY PISTONS, NOT ENOUGH LEAKY PRESSURE GAUGES"

  • you should also check out Magdalene Veen's myspace (just google her name) there's a whole story about how they're the crew of an airship, set in the industrial age, plus there's great pics of her there, and she's damn hot :D

  • They started out goth... a lot of the studio performances like this one are from their goth days, so you're not wrong to wonder why they're considered steampunk now. Have a look at their website or myspace pages and you'll see they've changed their image over the years (and acquired an airship in to the bargain!) to take on a more steampunk feel.

  • The band members themselves like the genre of Steampunk and have incorperated many visual elements into their stage shows. ALSO their lyrics frequently refer to "Victorian"-era subjects...

Since Steampunk started as a literary genre and not a musical one, it's hard to define what is "Steampunk" music. It's a judgement call, and since the band calls themselves Steampunk sometimes people flew with it. And Rasputina is frequently "lumped in" to Steampunk music too.

  • Yeah, they're great! But are they gothic? Cause I read somewhere that they were steampunk hehe... Anyway, listen to the new album, they're even better

  • Their music is absolutely beautiful.

  • Anywhere were i can download this for free i tried limewire but its a shame.

  • yep, right off their official site, just go to a section of the site called ''the vault'' and some of their songs have been made available

  • great. thank you

  • oh children, children. grow up already.

  • this song is good

  • Go to their own site.

  • I love them

  • Damn I am really starting to like this band. Wish I found out about them sooner!

  • hello im spanish, could anybody write me what says the chorus? i looked for it everywhere and i didnt find it. Just write what the chorus says. Thank you very much.

  • We don't cry for the Gods that die by our hands/

We throw stones when our Gods take a stand/

We create and destroy our Stigmata Matyrs/

    Stigmata Matyrs.

  • thank you very much

  • Steampunk is not a specefic genré but a collection of genres. Very much like "Rock" Is anything from Elvis to Sex Pistols to Metallica. (Elives IS rock. Elives plays very old Rock'n'roll. 60-70s I do belive?)

  • Steampunk is not a music style, but rather a genre, related with literature, something like a branch of the definition of cyber punk as literary genre.

  • Originally perhaps, but now it is more. Much more.

  • so says a handful of retards who jerk off to final fantasy

  • Forgetting that FF ain't even steamounk for a start...

Spoken like a true idiot. How ignorant you are. Be ashamed.

  • I pity you

  • fortunately, i couldn't care less.

  • If you really didn't you wouldn't have needed to say that.

  • you're right, i didn't need to at all, i simply wanted to :D

  • hmm, good point, im stoned and this music is pretty trippy, purple monkey hat sandwich soup wrap on vulture plates

  • Would you like some puppy entrails with that?

  • mmm, yes please!

  • Great Dane or Cocker Spaniel?

  • It's hard to pin a style of music as "Steampunk" since it's so broad a genre. If you download tracks from Abney, in the "genre" section they frequently call themselves "goth."

This is neither here nor there, as I think Abney Park has a very fresh style that doesn't really fit into a category like "goth" or "steampunk."

However, this vid doesn't do them justice. See them live if you want a show.

Oh, yes Bauhaus title. So...? As if they have all rights to the words "martyr" and such.

  • Actually, if you asked Steampunks themselves, many would say that Abney Park practically is the definition of steampunk as a musical style all by themselves.

  • What defines someone as "Steampunk?" Because I would say that I'm pretty "Steam" and Abney Park is not the definition of Steampunk as a musical style. Abney Park is rockish.

Vernian Process is probably more Steam in nature. Even Unextraordinary Gentlemen are more steampunk.

Plus asking a group of people if they "define" a group as a certain style is lame and very biased.

  • I'd have to disagree with that. They are one of many examples of Steampunk music.

  • i don't know,

can mention some of more steampunk bands? :P

  • well... The League of Unextraordinary Gentlemen, Vernian Process... and yeah, more and more, but it's because it's a genre that it needs to become more wide

  • Abney Park has been a favourite of mine since I first came across their music this time last year. Their style transcends genre. GO Abney Park!!

  • Agreed with the below, I haven't a clue what genre they fall in and I don't care, they're class.

  • Why instead of enjoying the music you keep protesting about what style of music do they play? ALWAYS the same shit: First-catalogue , second-hear

  • They label themselves gothic, which Steampunk is also very popular in.

    Firefly is soooo not steampunk.

  • AP rocks, there is a cemetary called Abney Park, which is the name inspiration for this band. Love these, guys and might travel all the way up to Washington from California just to see them.

  • This music would fit great with the steam punk series firefly

  • firefly ain't /really/ steampunk...what with a complete lack of steam, but its as close as it could get i'll give you that. Otherwise I agree with you completely. Firefly is a fantastic series.

  • Love it. Definitely Steampunk, not Goth.

  • Yeah, fuck everyone who calls the Goth. They are steampunk.

  • who cares about labels, its bloody brilliant. Someone get these guys a publicist, please! Don't try to put them in a box, just put them on the radio!

  • love em..... got a very interesting sound (in a gooood way)... any chance of them coming to the UK?? ;)

  • abney park aren't goth, they're steampunk

  • Their Gothic!!!! Maybe you should do some research?

  • or maybe you should =D

  • Agreed, like going to their wikipedia page and reading the very first line.

  • Tell me more about your band. What is the connection with Carol Abney? We worked with her on Celebration of the Lizard - we are family of Jim Morrison of the Doors.

  • Yes it does have the same title as a bauhaus song but then many bands have songs with the same titles.

At any rate, this is a great band, this song has always been one of my favourites :) Thanks for uploading it.

  • Wow. The name. Big deal.

  • you guys are aware that the title is that of a bauhuas song right.

  • WOW!!!! This is the sort of music I love. More please.

  • Dumb shit listion the Lyrics! You should'ent have jumped in if can't u probly a narrow mined loser!

  • Ma maath as gaping waaide aupan rait naw ai cannat talk...

This is fucking awesome. I haven't heard of the band before MirrorMask! Oh my, they are GREAT!

Shame there's so little uploaded... and thanks so much to those that did upload. ^-^

  • I love this song sooo much! That's allI can say. For now.

  • Abney Park is my all time favorite band! thnx for putting up this video it's awesome, they sound great live.

  • Ever since I bought your cd and saw this in concert, I have greatly enjoyed this song both musically and lyrically. And now I get to enjoy it visually any time! Great job on this video.

  • Awesome as always...
