@grifter116 classic example of simple misunderstanding of the basics. it will stop just as well as it always has unless you add weight.....and as we all know ls1's are made of aluminum. the end.
Without doubt the LS1 is made of alloy, but to play with your theory, what is we substitute a jet engine of the same weight for the LS1. At the cars new top speed, how well would it stop? I presume the LS1 will go much faster, and accelerate much quicker than stock, thus inertia plays a bigger role in stopping that weight even if it is of the same mass, no?
Or using an m3 diff and half shafts? If so with stock or m3 rear end will the half shafts handle the torque or will it Tear the splines out?
Just curious, I'm doing my research on this because I have and ls1 with ls6 heads and intake. Comp mild cams and stage 3 clutch, that I'm stuffing into my e36 sedan,
Basically just wondering if I can use my stock rear end for now or if I should just go for broke with a c5 subframe and fab it in to fit.
@kevinthematthews its an ls1 e36. did u watch the video with volume??? cuz i think if u had u would be able to tell that that e36 did not have a straight 6 in it. its an e36 with an ls1 in it
@kevinthematthews e36 was the model. there were actually two different motors put in the e36 m3 over the years. in 95 the motor was a 3.2 rather than the original 3.0 from 92
Could someone give a rough breakdown of the prices? LS1 vs. LS2 vs. LS6?? I've been tooling over a a 2JZ swap into my '84 e23 Euro for years now but maybe a huge American V8 would do the trick...
best thing about an LS1, a ported FAST 92/92 or 90/90 intake manifold, a good set of heads and a cam like a t-rex or magic stick 4 and you are at 450rwhp. and you can still get 25mpg highway (if not more) from that huge cam. stock ls1s can get EASILY 20-25 MPG city and 30-35 highway if you drive them with a strady foot, you dont even have to baby it. my neighbor drives an 08 LS3 C6 (stick) and he regularly gets 35mpg to work and back. ill be happy to answer/correct any ?s or coments on ls1s.
nobody finds it funny that the new m3 is built on v concept that gm been using since the 60s im a bmw car club member of nj love my e30s yes i know that the e30 m3 won more endurance races then any other chassis but an ls1 in a bmw is like music to my ears replacement parts for gm are way cheaper getting major horsepower gains will be easier also
it may be more advanced and high tech but the LS1 still blows it away in every department, i mean think about it, its a pushrod motor thats basic design has never really changed in well over 50 years, yet it still delivers the absolute best power to money ratio I've every seen. and can out power and out last pretty much anything. shure there are a few that top it in some areas, but as an overall motor where power is a necessity , its the king.
and it has been proven to be superior to DOHC engines in N/A form, a pushrod engine has a flatter torque curve and arrives earlier than DOHC they have to rev to get their torque numbers and now with the lsx block its unstopable dont get me wrong i like I6s with their inherant smoothness and rev ability but jvw is right $ for $ an ls1 just cant be beat
Thats a joke right? The LS1 is one of the best motors ever built. Thats why people start putting the LS1 in almost anything... Honda's, Nissan's, Mazda's, Evo's...
i gotta ls6 ctsv, trade?

@adguerra9 yes.... i get that. it's an ls1. an e36 is a bmw motor.... not the car the ls1 is in... that's what i'm saying.

LS1 is a perfect swap in an E36. It's about the same weight as the stock inline 6 and it's more compact.
Jorell1000 1 year ago
@Jorell1000 is the stock inline 6 aluminum or cast iron?
SuperColossal33 1 year ago
@SuperColossal33 Cast
bellofello1 1 year ago
@bellofello1 cool then that would mean the car probably lost 100lbs or so by going to the LS1 (aluminum)
SuperColossal33 1 year ago
@SuperColossal33 Yep probably around that. I think the LS and the 4cyl cast end up right at the same weight. LS might be heavier by a few LB's
