I think the film isn't nearly als good as the book.
And for the drugs topic:
I can see how kids grow up in total abstenence of any type of drug at all. And they are told that they are strong because they just say no. But think of who's stronger, the kid that doesn't even know what he/she is missing or the former alcoholic who can stop at 2 drinks. I think everyone should be able to try anything he wants. Because when your 40 and you have a great job, you won't have the chance anymore.
There are some exceptions though, personally i would never touch:
- Heroine (morfine)
- Crack
- Meth
- Speed (not for danger i just don't like the effect)
When you just try somethings and don't use them on a regular base, some are acceptable. Say Cocaine, very dangerous and addictive but 1 try shouldn't hurt. Siggarettes are the most addictive drug avaidable but i have never seen someone get addicted after 1. Live your life but be carefull.
@perissos21r you may want to correct your spelling and grammar before trying to insult someone. The only thing I did is say my opinion. Isn't that what this page is for? Everybody has their own opinion and i can't call anyone an adult before one has learned to respect and try to understand other opinions than just his own. And if you don't like someone els his opinion, discuss it. But do not try insult people, so that they will back of and agree with yours. And you call me a kid?
@ninoiphone12 I get what you're saying and it would be great if it were true but there are no former alcoholics that can stop at two drinks.
Addiction can only be mastered by abstinence.
Drugs are fine for that part of the population that dabble in stuff and move on but if your the sort of the person that tends to get really into whatever pastime and immerse yourself in the culture it will have a negative effect.
You may still judge it worth it in the very long term. Mileage will vary.
Yeah, the movie's amazing, and then you try searching every possible corner of the earth to find the book, and in the end you realize that it was worth it
@BartRamone ME TOO! i thought i was the only one who still wants to experience things for myself even though i see the bad results i thought i was crazy AND i still want to try LSD to see what the trip is like i mean ive heard stories but i still want to see
The quality was real bad ! But I don't regret ever watching this, it made me learn ALOT on drug abuse. I still don't get why some people idolize Christiane F ! She relapsed and her kid was taken in charge by the state. Really a dumb woman...
It's scary to think about that this actually does happen to people.
And even some real young ones who doesn't even takes the chance to really live and enjoy. I know my life isn't perfect, I have my ups and downs as well but would never ever consider drugs, alcohol or anything - I would only make things worse! Instead of focusing on the real issue they create another which gives them (at least) TWO big problems.
However this movie is terrifying but good at teaching people a life lesson.
I love this film very much and have watched it over and over again. I just love the setting, the music, the characters. I especially enjoy seeing what Germany is like in this period, what people are like etc. The story is pretty simple, girl in her puberty gets into drugs, hangs with druggies, and pretty cliche. Again the mood and setting of this film is just perfect.
Damn I've been trying to look for the book everywhere. Anyone know a good place of where I could find the English version of it? I found it on Ebay for $12; in french so if you know french, [I hate you] :D
@plplplplomg Thats my point. I enjoyed watching RFAD but I was constantly reminded while watching it how much more powerful and real Christiane F is and for all that think RFAD is the greatest movie showing the effects of Heroin. Wrong. watch 'Christiane F'. Unfortunately Christiane F ain't as popular.
Also 'Dog from space' is another film that in pretty much unknown but a far better example of Heroin usage with a sad ending.
probably the most raw, graphic and hard hitting heroin junkie movie out there..yet so obscure and unknown!! too bad.. they really should have dubbed this in English to give it more exposure. the common American is allergic to subtitles and therefor refuses to watch it
I've smoked and snorted heroin quite a few times.. never shot it, and hopefully never will... but the drug is so evil that you are under its spell before you know it. chose your friends wisely people.
I do plenty o' drugs but I never tried smack and crack for obvious reasons. This film should be shown to all children to show them the grim tragic realities of heroin abuse. The direction and performances are stunning, it's one of those one-offs that can never be replicated and everyone involved fades into relative obscurity (apart from king Bowie obviously). One of it's strengths is showing how a tab of Acid or a toke of reefer is a whole other world to the horror of 'H'
@macekmacek yeah weird how we DO KNOW it's shit, and the book/movie do show it, but some ppl just know and feel it's gonna have to be a part of their lives... Christiane said it in the book "at one point, you just know you're in for trying heroin"
@macekmacek life isnt shit, the shit is the way you think about your life, i knew it the same way like you did after seeing that film, was addicted for long 20 years, (15 on Morphium iv), anyway to many of my friends the film wasnt daunting, i would say as a ex junkie if wanna show films about Drugs, show them "Requiem of a Dream", that film is daunting for real, it was horrible to watch for me and i was still on the needle back there, today im fine and of course its worth to fight for it
This movie shit scared me away from drugs. I was 14 then and had never tried anything and I know I have not missed "a life experience". I found it at my video club and I don't think my mother ever watched it, I don't think she would have found it "appropiate". I would show it to every teen I know! I thank the producers, David Bowie and all the people involved in it's realization and distribuition.
doesn't matter. depends on person. i can tell from experience with drugs and lots of alcohol. some people can't handle alcohol or marijuana, because most people use it, doesn't mean they are rich, good, smart or whatever.

ich war total enttäuscht weil das buch der hammer war und der film eher mittelmäßig bis schlecht.
watched this at abc cinema rochdale when it first came out..went on a week nite..so it was nearly empty except for a few shadowy figures..i was by myself..i had a lebense joint actual watchin the movie..their was smoke in the air..and nobody hassled me....not like today...it was great in the olden days...more freedom...great movie memory...
in my opinion, this song doesn't fit to this trailer . it's too happy, whereas the film is set , somehow, to warn against drugs. on the other hand the song is really enjoyable. (;
This movie was forgotten for years until it came back on DVD.
I found a copy on VHS in 1997 at a video store that stocked lots of old titles. It was one of the last independent video stores in Manhattan after Blockbuster put them all out of business.
I watched this film when i was about 11 (i hadn't a clue what it was at first) and i gotta say it did a better job to convince me never to do drugs than any of them stupid goverment advertisments. I think all kids should be made to watch this
wieso kann ich verdammtnochmal ein interview von der sehn unzwar wo die schon älter is vll 30 40 die war doch mal bei stern tv oder sowas maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan `-´
Owh .. the movie is soooo scary .. and when you see it you can see all the bad things with to take drugs - the reality. and the movie is amazing!! you shall see the movie!!
you'd better read the book: soo much better, and even scarier: more facts, just the real fuckin' truth, all the story; not cut and reducted like in the movie.
I've watched all three films, "kids" - mainly concerns the issue of AIDS, "'Requiem For A Dream" - is a superficial film, generally weak movie, as far as concerns "Christiane F. - Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo" - is a powerful and comprehensive, revealing the cruel reality of fucking life in Berlin in 1977.

Wo kann ich diesen Film finden?

in my opinion, this song doesn't fit to this trailer . it's too happy, whereas the film is set , somehow, to warn against drugs. on the other hand the song is really enjoyable. (;

This movie was forgotten for years until it came back on DVD.
I found a copy on VHS in 1997 at a video store that stocked lots of old titles. It was one of the last independent video stores in Manhattan after Blockbuster put them all out of business.

It's not that good acutally, even quite boring. The book was far better, I do recommend reading it.

betharemynameis 3 years ago
I watched this film when i was about 11 (i hadn't a clue what it was at first) and i gotta say it did a better job to convince me never to do drugs than any of them stupid goverment advertisments. I think all kids should be made to watch this

This is the only drug movie I can recall that absolutely, in no way glamourizes drugs at all. They succeed in making heroin use look disgusting.

das ist wirklich der horror. ich habb das buch gelesen, was die alles für h machen.
zuletzt hat christiane f. wieder schlagzeilen gemacht: sie wurde wieder drogenabhängig und musste ihren sohn zu pflegeeltern geben.
you really must read the book, its telling the whole story of the kis from the zoo.
poor child.

Owh .. the movie is soooo scary .. and when you see it you can see all the bad things with to take drugs - the reality. and the movie is amazing!! you shall see the movie!!
nicetingeling 3 years ago
you'd better read the book: soo much better, and even scarier: more facts, just the real fuckin' truth, all the story; not cut and reducted like in the movie.

get the region 1 if you can play it, UK version is heavily cut.
A Masterpiece! makes 'Requiem For A Dream' and 'Kids' look like Finding Nemo!
derfscratch 3 years ago
@derfscratch
I've watched all three films, "kids" - mainly concerns the issue of AIDS, "'Requiem For A Dream" - is a superficial film, generally weak movie, as far as concerns "Christiane F. - Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo" - is a powerful and comprehensive, revealing the cruel reality of fucking life in Berlin in 1977.

you can find it by the video corner but it is a really hard movie

what wrote on you tube to watch this full version this movie?
Ervinni 3 years ago
you don't get an english version as that would ruin the whole film, you get the original on dvd with english subtitles
LoDoll 3 years ago
nah if i wanted to read i'd read a book, when i watch a movie i want it to be in English.
