it depends on the size of the tank. If their not in a big enough tank, it won't neccessarily stop them from growing but it will stun their growth. I've had mine for alittle over a year now in my 75 gallon and they grew from about 2.5 to 6 inches. I only have 2 of them but eventually they will need a bigger tank.
