  • i hate to sound like a real train geek, but when i first saw this video i saved it to my favorites, seems so long ago, and still today, when i watch this video, i get chilles at the end when you inserted the sunset shot......darkness looms.....so sad. ugh. i miss BN.

  • So this video is 4 years old has anything changed to SD60M since this was made?

  • love this video so inspirational. awsome video

  • Nice video. Is it too late to apologize for the merger? (East of the Mississippi River) I like CSX the best because of my loyalty to liking Chessie System. SOME of the BN SD60Ms have one of my 5 favorite horns. I just discovered it less than a month ago via Youtube. I'm definitely adding at least one of those engines to my train set collection when I get another one.

  • BNSF Pumpkins >:(

  • Honistly I hate BNSF. As individual railroads they where great. I for one was a huge BN fan, more than the ATSF, but together, they suck...

  • Brilliant vidoe beautiful still shots As a broadcast camer operator i thought it a professional elegant touching piece that showed me the Green Giants were attractive As a yellowbonnet fan this moved me... I agree save the yellowbonnets too they both classics...

  • Unfortunately we are left with the ugly black and pumpkin orange BNSF paint scheme. I personally am a equal fan of both the BN and ATSF--my true love is the MKT. I truly believe that they should have never painted over their ATSF and BN vets, such a shame... Nevertheless, if you ask me, the BNSF should really reconsider going back with their Heritage 1 paint scheme, at least it looks nice compared to these ugly schemes today. Heritage 1 scheme is influenced by the GN scheme btw.

  • I take it ur a BN fan. Losing the BN didn't really effect me at all, But I grew up right along side the Santa Fe mainline just north of Ft. Worth, Tx. As a child images of blue & yellow SD40-2's raced through my dreams. So trust me I feel ur pain. Every time I see a blue & yellow workhorse or a warbonnet that's been disfigured with a 'BNSF ' patch or re-painted orange & green I wanna puke! awesome video. narration was well written.

  • Orange and green paint look awful and always will. The only reason they painted them that way is because BN had a "pumpkin nose" unit they did and wanted to see what entire unit would look like. It sucks.

  • Glad to see the Green Machines coming back into service i saw one in Tupelo, MS not to long ago.

  • BN SUCKS

  • @atsfft103 They rule because they hated GE GE Sucks mass crap

  • @UP5140SD70M hell yeah

  • @Seaboard1321 yeap

  • @atsfft103

    how?

  • @BNSF2184 the merger killed the greatest american railroad ATSF no more warbonnets yellowbonnets

BN was a railroad made of 4 santa fe was only one

  • i like the C44-9W's i wish they came out earlier, so the BN's would have had em!

  • BNSF Is so dumb SD60M's are also my favorite,

  • what ever happened to BN's SD60MAC?

  • @Mephilesthedark360 They were retired in 1998 and sold for use at the FRA's Transportation Technology Center in Pueblo, Colorado.

  • My uncle has a HO scale model of the Great Pumpkin, me and him both have great respect for the SD60Ms, we love them

  • Does SD70MACs only get used for coal transport thats all?

  • @verastaki Yes, that is what they were built for. VERY RARELY you may see one on a freight train, however their AC traction system (which is much more expensive than that of a comparable DC SD70M) is best utilized in low speed, heavy-haul applications, such as coal service.

  • @trainz675 You still spell like you're five

  • and you do too! :D

  • also i type very fast so dont even comment on my spelling... :p

  • i waant to catch a SD60M in the lead with my new camera...

  • I spent many summer and fall days watching these units shove coal trains up Crawford Hill....that was about five years ago...before everything was patched and the hideous yellow reflectors came along....and they still used the fuel tenders....there was nothing sharper than a three unit set of 9200s with a BNFT in it....sure do miss seeing that :(

  • The book has closed for the SD60M BN paint scheme. We shale miss you!!!

  • what dose that mean?

  • @trainz675 - A SD60M is a locomotive type. Like a: AC4400CW, SD40-2, GP38AC, MP15AC, SW1500, NW2, SD38-2 and VERY MUCH more are just different locomotives types.

  • 2:16 is awesome! Despite the fact that i actually LIKE the Pumpkin paint scheme, seeing a white-faced BN unit with 3 windows is awesome!

  • man, if only the SPSF merger had gone through, at least that paint scheme would have looked good. and anyways, why are they intent on wiping out the santa fe? the red BNSF on the old superfleet warbonnets completely kills that paint scheme. its pathetic that only one two railroads survived the 80's the KCS and UP, and even more pathetic that the KCS is the only railroad that hasnt really done any major merges with other companies!

  • Somewhere I have pics inside the cab of a brand new SD60. The claim was that the only place they were going to be used was in coal service. Fantastic locomotive, inside and out..

  • Great video... I miss the old Mean Green Machine (BN). I remember the merger that made the BN my dad worked forn the Northern Pacific and my uncle worked for the Great Northern and they refered to the BN as the Big Nasty or Better than Nothing. It would be great to see heritage schemes for all the fallen flags that are now the BNSF.

  • H1 and H2 are the only schemes that I like,SD60M 9277 looks great in that scheme

  • With the economy the way it is now it sucks to see the 60M's laid up while the GE's roam. The only saving grace lately is with so many GEVO's pulled out of service for grenading their turbo's and more all the SD75m's that were laid up at northtown have been called back into service, for now. The SD60m's still sit (I prefer the 3 window cab myself).

  • A lot of the stuff that's LUGO now will be placed back into service, but probably not the SD40-2s.

  • the SD40-2s will be used as yard switchers and local shunts, and sometimes thrown in as extra power on manifests. the SD40-2 is not going to be eliminated from the fleet.

  • I think the BN SD60M is a very nice locomotive! To bad BNSF is repainting em!

  • the merger was sad wasnt it

  • I still see alot of Burlington Northern units sitting at the diesel shop at Northtown yard when we deliver cars. Some of them are still around. Alot of the guys I've talked to ssy that they liked Burlington Nothern much better. They call BNSF "Big Nothin So Far". Thought that was kind of funny. Nicely made video!!

  • VERY well done video!!!

  • You know, when I have gone to North town to deliver to the BN you still see them around the Diesel shop.

  • this isn't sad. the STB approved the buyout of the EJ&E by the C.N.

  • I'm from the "other" side of this, in that I mourn the loss of the revived ATSF "war bonnets" much more than the loss of any BN colors. HOWEVER, I would much rather see BN green all over the place than that hideous "heritage" orange! Never thought I'd appreciate UP's armor yellow so much. That BNSF orange just burns my retinas out!

  • Their newest paint scheme (Heritage III) is the worst. So boring...

  • Agreed.

  • Not to mention, the paint on some three year-old GEVOs is looking worse than BNSF's sidelined THIRTY year-old locomotives!

  • Agree, Especially with that awful new logo

  • I agree! I see BNSF a lot here, but I'm sick of their orange scheme. At least UP has heritage locomotives that represent each company that merged. BNSF is wiping out all that is BN and ATSF.

  • That's why I'll be heading to the central valley in California, to see more BNSF trains, one is bound to have a Green Giant on it.

  • I bet you've seen more green giants than I have though, I only saw that one in Montana, and havesn't seen one since.

  • When I was 11, I went to Montana, and the engineer of a stopped BNSF train with a Green Giant in the lead, invited me into the cab, and he let me blow the horn and ring the bell, and now here I am, three years later, and back in Northern California, and I watch BNSF trains operate on trackage rights through UP's Roseville Yard and I would give anything to see a Green Giant leading again, this actually makes me cry my eyes out!!!!!!!!

  • i thought "Pumpkins" only referred to the Heritage II scheme not the Heritage III or "Swoosh" or "Powerbar"??

  • Sniff.......now i'm really depressed.....

  • Ditto.....

  • Damn...great vid...i dont think i ever got all fuzzy and sad over a locomotive or a railroad....but....that was close...lol.

  • Great video the BN Green Giants are my favorite Locomotive! I wish the 2 roads didnt merge that way we could have our BN units and Santa Fe could have there classic and great looking Warbonnets and Yellowbonnts back! Orange will never beat Whiteface and green or Red and Silver!

  • this was a excellent video, really brought back old memories!

  • did they copyright this song, is that why htere's a advertisement

  • yes

  • i hate that, i got that problem on a few of my vids :(

  • @casslakechris bnsf needs to repaint and repatch the bn's back to their origional forms

  • Nice vid. good kob. how did you get all this info?

  • You guys are arguing over which railroads were better? Last time I checked, ATSF and BN were two pretty good class 1 railroads before they went out.

And who are you to say that they were bad railroads, were you in charge of their management? Were you in charge of how the trains were moved, did you make sure the goods arrived at the correct places on time? I think not. Those two railroads were giants, they lasted a long time.

    Grow up.

  • This video isn't about which railroad was better. It is a simple dedication to my favorite locomotive and to show some of my photographs off.

  • I know, I applaud your video, you did a very good job. Im just mad about the other guys that came in here and argued over the stupidist things. But as I said, great video.

  • dude, your talking out your ass. ATSF had more take home, cash. then ur Gay N SO stfu,AND know the facts before you just say shit.

  • back in jan 2008 i saw a BN SD-60 leading with no BNSF leters by the cab!!!!!!!

  • look lets just do this, as much as i hate u BN people, Just spilt it up, You can have your BN back, and give us our ATSF back. in order to do good u have to do evil. and if makeing a deal with bn to do so gets atsf back,so be it.

  • OH AND DID YOU KNOW ABOUT THE SANTA FE SOUTHERN PACIFIC MERGER BUT AT LEAST SOME ATSF UNITS AND BN UNITS ARE STILL AROUND AND THATS WHAT THIS IS FOR AND IF YOU DONT LIKE IT MAKE YOUR OWN ABOUT THE santa fe

  • go back, and play with your Trains, you foamer.

  • we all know that BN was better, but us BN people want our SD60M's back, that comment about jan 08, that was still the last...

  • it is to late to apolgize for what haqppened

  • lol, nice song choice for this video!

  • The patch job doesn't look bad. I wish they could post one on the nose as well though.

  • I live up here in northern Wyoming, bottle neck of the PRB (Powder River Basin) lots of SD69Ms in helper service, and now almost every SD60M has been re#ed. I remember the first SD60M I ever seen. I think I was about 10, wow that was 20 years ago.

  • oops SD69MS = LOL

  • how sad!!lol

  • Amazing a deffinate favorite!

  • Those repaints are hidious!!!

  • Yup, the Genesis line is expected in March... but knowing Athearn will be released around July. I already have one in sounds reserved, and another non-sound.

  • Too bad they're only making the 2 winbdow ones...

  • Yea. I'm kinda glad with two window. I have two P2K three window cabs.

  • "Apologize" is the name of the song.

  • Great video of the SD60! I have a big super book just on that locomotive and tons of BN pics of those engines! EMD would end up making 1100 SD60s in total for Railroad companies. I also seen and photographed them in the Chicago area on the racetrack! Awesome locomotive! nice paint scheme I think athearn modeled that locomotive in HO scale

  • this is a nice video, nice job, what is the music?

  • One True Republic remixed by Timbaland.

  • cool tribute, the BN schemes were always my favorite. nothing beats the executive and cascade green schemes. nothing.

  • i model BNSF, but i am a Santa Fa fan at heart. although i do like BNSF paint schemes, and i would prefer them over the UP.

nice video, and nice tribute, hope all is well.

  • I Love The quote you left at the the end "The Sun Hasn't Quite set on the Green giants but darkness looms" It's sad to think but one day the big Green and the giant SD60M Will be BNSF coloers or scrap

  • BN was my FAVORITE, I remember going out on the edge of the tracks, and waving to the engineer, the BN engines were classic, and I hope the BN green-white scheme, AND, the black-white scheme, survives, but, luckily, some of us have a revolutionary game, called, TRAINZ, a railroad game, wear youre in charge, no one else, and we can get new downloads, especially BN units, both schemes!

    Hope the BN survives!;)

  • At least the locomotives will still be around, albeit in a different scheme. I hope no tears are shed when the green finally dies.

  • AWESOME VIDEO!

  • Great job, this has inspired to me to make something like this. Thanks and good job.

  • nice video i want to cry now

  • One of the best railroad videos I have seen in a long time. I am hoping they would do like Union Pacific and make some herritage units for ATSF, BN, Northern Pacific, The great Northern just to name a few.

  • do you live in minnesota? great job!

  • I don't really like the new BNSF paint job. Tell them to stop thinking about Halloween, Green & White's better and Red & Silver

  • Very nice tribute! I too, love the Cascade Green & Black. Not only did I spend time working on them but I have many HO models of them too.

  • If you could choose between driving a BN three piece window SD60M or a LMX B39-8e general electric leased unit which would you choose? why would you choose it ?

  • did you ever drive leased units like MPI,LMX,MRL,OAKWAY,or the SD70M demos? what sub did you drive on?

  • BN Green Rules! The problem with BNSF in my opinion is that both of BNSF's predecessors had better paint schemes than BNSF its self(Warbonnets forever!!!!!!)I just love the "white face" SD60Ms.

  • Very cool! I take it the orange and green paint is not popular over your way then?!

  • Not when they are taking away our BN GREEN!!!!

  • Do preffer the BN green i gota admit.

  • what you need to understand casslakechris is that there is nothing we can do about it! just be happy BNSF has alot of old locomotives. Here is a tip if you want to see alot of BN green go to BNSF's northtown yard in Minneapolis, they have tons of them.

  • great vid love th BN with no SF behind it

  • Awsome video nice song choice for the video

  • OMG! that was one of the best i have ever seen !!!!

  • Simply AWESOME Chris! Love the pictures, the song (fits well here). also brings back some very good railfan memories.

  • Awsome!!! I really like how you ended it.
