It is hard to define what is and isn't comedy really. Everyone finds stuff funny that others don't. Some find stupidity funny others find it just plain stupid. Of course it is. Unfortunately, my experience with 30% of the Canadians I've met has been pretty bad. I am easy to get along with, and I love meeting new people. It just gets old when someone (who's not even on a first name basis with me) gives me the run down of how and why they think their country is superior to mine.
In Japan, I was amazed how many British and Australians would comment on the behavior of Canadians toward Americans. It would be so uncomfortable when the Canadians would start complaining in the middle of a night out with a bunch of teachers from English speaking countries. Everyone would just get quiet, then someone would clear their throat and change the subject.

Never once did I encounter such an incident. On the contrary, the insensitivity from some Americans is quite annoying. After my first year here, while on the bus from Vancouver Airport, I heard two Americans joke about our 'play money'. This is in Vancouver, too!

I would agree. However, I would also say that your own nation's stupidity and ignorance is often "strategically" masked by the US. That is, Canadians feel as though they are so much smarter than Americans (which is false), so if that's the case, ask your parents and friends how many states make up Mexico, who the current leader is and when they gained independence. Never once did I encounter such an incident. On the contrary, the insensitivity from some Americans is quite annoying. After my first year here, while on the bus from Vancouver Airport, I heard two Americans joke about our 'play money'. This is in Vancouver, too!

I met several Americans in Europe and got on well with them, but I was surprised at the lack of world knowledge among some. It didn't cause me to dislike them, but it is a poor image for Americans when such ignorance is blatant. Would you not agree?

I would agree. However, I would also say that your own nation's stupidity and ignorance is often "strategically" masked by the US. That is, Canadians feel as though they are so much smarter than Americans (which is false), so if that's the case, ask your parents and friends how many states make up Mexico, who the current leader is and when they gained independence. I assure you they won't know, but also they won't be considered ignorant for it. That is the only difference between us.

PS, if you're from Japan (which I have lived before), the level of ignorance increases further. Even the way your publishers write their (biased) history books explains why there is so much animosity toward Japan on behalf of other far east nations.

I am from Canada, which i thought made clear earlier, but if I didn't I do now. Don't you dare knock the Japanese, by the way. My wife is Japanese, and we have two sons. Yes, they are not perfect, neither are Canadians or Americans. And don't paint us all with one brush. I have never implied that I think we are smarter--more intelligent, that is.

I have every right to express my feeling s about whatever the hell I want (and so do you), especially considering I lived in Fuji Japan for 16 months. I don't paint everyone with the same brush, leave that to people who say things like: "all Americans this" or "all Americans that."
Did I ever knock your military?? No, and I said I didn't agree with the Redeye Report. My dad served and was shot it Vietnam, but I'm not demanding respect from you because of it.

Four Canadian soldiers' bodies were returned home just days after these scumbags had their little laughs. My brother, cousin and grandfather served in the military. My uncle was in the RAF. The original discussion we were having was about how ignorant you think Americans are compared to the rest of the world. I am simply telling you that over all, it's a load of shit. I gave you the "what do you know about Mexico" example, yet nobody considers you ignorant despite not knowing the basics about a nation geographically located near yours. No harm no foul, we are simply talking, not fighting. I have been living abroad for the last ten years, and I'm just saying the double standard in regards to Americans is so obvious it's almost laughable. Believe me, I'm VERY critical of the US, and I have no desire to go back anytime soon. However I also think it's fair to point out negative attributes about all nations. The claim that the entire world is dancing to the beat of the same drum, with the exceptoin of the US isn't true.

@JohnQRandom Thanks for the messages. Believe me, my time spent abroad has allowed me to appreciate Americans and your culture. I understand your point better now, and I hope you don't hold any grudges any more than I might. Canada is far from perfect, and I often tell Japanese people about our faults. Gosh, what we did to the Native people, taking them away from families and putting them in white homes. It is a part of our eternal shame.
