The President's spoken support for OWS doesn't mean anything. He also campaigned on promises to support Main Street, not Wall Street, while taking Wall Street money. OWS was planned for a VERY long time. Stephen Lerner, AFLCIO, Tides Foundation, SEIU, MoveOn, and Socialist Worker's Unions planned this early on. There are several videos of Lerner giving lectures on how he will make this happen. The "Middle East" was organized and aided by SEIU and AFLCIO, which also has videos of Trumka. Bill Ayers and Bernadine Doren were also helping them.

Of course Obama's going to use Occupy to his advantage - that's what politicians do. But at least in order to do so, he has to concede in some measure to the occupiers' message, and that shifts the discourse in the country in the proper direction.

OWS was planned for a VERY long time. Stephen Lerner, AFLCIO, Tides Foundation, SEIU, MoveOn, and Socialist Worker's Unions planned this early on. There are several videos of Lerner giving lectures on how he will make this happen. The "Middle East" was organized and aided by SEIU and AFLCIO, which also has videos of Trumka. Bill Ayers and Bernadine Doren were also helping them.
P.S. Obama is funding OWS. Check out the $135 million gift from Obama to the Zuccotti Park managers.

Thank you for the cautionary tale. It is important to question everything including this movement to avoid it going in the wrong direction. It seems if we do nothing, we are guaranteed F@$%ed but if we do something like this global movement, if we approach it carefully, leaderlessly, and peacefully non compliantly, we at least have a chance at truly transforming this world. I no longer put my faith in ANY leader but myself and I think everyone else should too.

Governments should be there to distribute the country's wealth through proper equatable taxation so that none are living in that kind of extreme poverty that is very hard to get out of.In a wealthy country everyone should be able to get their teeth and general health seen to.Governments need to control 'trickle down' and 'trickle up' wealth effects without being totally 'left' or 'right' politically.It isn't that hard . Australia avoided the global recession with good trickle up/down management.

actually, protesters going into the senate office building isn't that uncommon. it's been happening for like 50 years, people have done sit-ins or confronted a congressperson in a group etc. In the past some even handcuffed themselves to the office fixtures so they couldn't be dragged away.... those offices are fairly open to visitors as i understand it. They are using hype in those headlines, beware that paper's intent.
